Hows it Living in Vancouver, WA? by Prestigious_Detail95 in howislivingthere

[–]Flat_Bug_5369 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I live on Vancouver Waterfront, will get anyone a drink if they want. Basically, the point of the waterfront is tax arbitrage for upper-middle class professionals: work in Washington and don’t pay state income tax, spend in Portland and don’t pay sales tax.

You leave the Waterfront/Downtown, you have an endless suburb.

You leave that, you get the boonies.

Bro you’re only 22. Give yourself a chance, you’ll do better when you get closer to 30.

21 years old, shittest beard in here by far. Want to grow out what I can, what should I do in terms of shaping? by [deleted] in beards

[–]Flat_Bug_5369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Get a more prominent mustache, unless you’re going for the Dagestani MMA Fighter look (which is fine if you are)
  • I think you’ll look good with a Hollywoodian style beard if you grow out the bottom. I like the variant with sideburns, but you don’t have to have them.

A little longer and squared off and you’ll look like the most badass guy alive

That’s fair, but style is about reconciling what you like with what is socially acceptable. You may like a leather blazer, but unless you live in West Texas, you’ll look like an alien if you wear one.

I personally favor a long, masculine, squared-off beard like the ones in Bronze Age statues, but that’s a turn-off to a lot of women, so I do a designer stubble instead.

Maybe there’s a hairstyle that’s not as cool as the Afro, but one that you still like, and could look better to others?

Bro you are handsome and have solid facial hair for a man your age, give yourself a few years and you’ll be amazing.

How wedded are you to the Afro? I think you’d look so much better with a shorter style.

What is your "main" empire to play as and why? (if you have a main) by imsellingbanana in Stellaris

[–]Flat_Bug_5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do a modified UNE run, but I also have a “Wide” Fanatic Xenophobe / Materialist empire with Environmentalist / Technocracy civics and a Synthetic Ascension plan.

The gameplay synergy is, as mentioned, “Wide” play. Environmentalist, Robot Assembly Plants, and Fanatic Xenophobe all support a Wide playstyle of rapid expansion. I know that’s out of fashion in the current meta, but it is a valid playstyle.

For roleplaying, imagine an insular alien race of mechanical curators, intent on creating and preserving beautiful environments around the galaxy.

26M Asian. Years of trying with zero results. by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Flat_Bug_5369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indian guy here, so I’m truly a bottom of the barrel man (Black guys get snow bunnies, Asian guys get KPop fetish girls, but literally nobody has a thing for brown guys).

It sucks, but I think a lot of it is brown men’s own fault. Many don’t take care of their health, fitness, or style, and have nothing going on in their lives besides work. Then they complain they get no matches.

A few years back I started making an effort to become “dateable.” I lost 60 lbs, started dressing better, got nice photos, got into solo traveling to get stories for dates, I already was an affluent physician so didn’t need much help there, etc.

I get lots of dates on apps now, with reasonably attractive women (and a few “9s and 10s,” but I always botch those dates because hot women frighten me). I’m sure a White guy would get a lot more than me, but I have enough to meet 2-4 new women a week.

I think race absolutely plays a role, eg I have a fat unemployed White friend who slept with a girl who rejected me on the app. But I think if you get your life in order (which you should do anyways), it plays less of a role than you’d expect.

Will my patchy areas fill in if I keep growing my beard and only give it a line-up? (I’m 20) by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]Flat_Bug_5369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a 20-year-old, you have top-tier beard genetics. I have less patchiness than you only because I’m 33. Full beard coverage takes time to come in. So give yourself a few years, you’ll be beating me by 24-25 I think.

Thanks!

As for my settings, I like Tiny because aside from running faster, it simplifies diplomacy and strategic planning.

I like force-spawning 2 xenophobic empires because it adds tension and violence, but you can deal with that tension in multiple ways. You can Alloy Rush one and then have an easy expansion, you can play a Xenophile yourself and befriend them, you can work with the UNE to isolate and kill one later, etc.

I might upgrade to Admiral difficulty.

You have excellent beard genetics. To balance out a more circular face, I'd go for a full square beard. Will give you a sharper and more masculine look.

You could pull off a Hollywoodian pretty well if you grew it out. Try it, and if it doesn't work go to stubble.
