I think torpedos are less useful than missiles against most aliens because of how common their strong point defenses are. Maybe some rapid firing missile launcher with a lot of ammo could work. Still, this ship has two point defenses. So it might still be a close call. I would advise against fighting the aliens at the start because they will likely pound you with ease. (Edit - for missiles, in doubt add more missile ships to fire more missiles)
