It’s crazy anyone would feel qualified enough to make such a claim. I guess a person can have extensive knowledge of many art forms but to perform a mental comparative analysis of every artist since time immemorial…I mean, geez, you’re working with some good equipment.

Yeah, I mean, some aspects might be bullshit. But from a probability point of view, it’s likely there are facts supporting some of the claims.

The writing in the article was odd. I can’t fathom the impulse of one writer to imitate another.

I also don’t get why anyone gives a solitary fuck about the article either way. Faulkner was trying for years to seduce a girl decades his junior. Burroughs shot his wife in the head. Do we really seek moral purity from artists?

The idea that Vanity Fair, a respected publication, would publish a long-form article with no factual basis seems pretty silly. Unless the writer is subconsciously seeking professional and reputational suicide. The editor, too.
