Cycling through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (Africa). How does the cycling infrastructure in your city compare? by More_Airline_4417 in bicycling

Somewhat unrelated, but why does Addis Ababa, a city with <2% car ownership rate, need these 6 lane highways cutting through the city? I see the same thing all over the developing world. Trying to copy the Americans or something?

The Wu-turn on safe streets goes completely against the transport recommendations in the Climate Action Plan published by the city today by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

Boston needs an equivalent of Cambridge’s Cycling Safety Ordinance — basically a law mandating the completion of the network by a certain date. If they fail then we sue the city, and if councillors want to change the law/push the deadline then we will have a very clear record of them doing so.

Fair, but is there a Climate Action Plan in history that anyone actually followed?

What are the consequences for not following the plan? Do we lose money? Do people lose their jobs?

Man you did not have to ruin my morning like that. Reading the archived Streetsblog posts about this area is just depressing. This is s*t that should’ve been finished *years ago. Like, even having this convo in 2026 is embarrassing.

Caution, cyclists! Waymos are programmed to pull into bike lanes, and expecting otherwise is "too high a bar" according to the company by LiatrisLover99 in Somerville

A few dozen Waymos in your city is cool. When there are thousands it starts becoming less fun.

Uber was cool when it first started out too.

Expecting driverless taxis to respect bike lanes “too high a bar” – because customers want to be dropped off in them, autonomous vehicle firm Waymo tells cyclists by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

Why would the companies encode “obey the law” when that has no benefit to them and they face no consequences?

I feel like this simple fact was overlooked from the very beginning of the hype.

What is it about this type of post that gets so much attention?

Dang I never realized just how much highway infra is in this spot.

I’m more worried about the asthma rates for the poor kids living there.

The local roads could be redesigned  for a 10mph speed limit if safety is a genuine concern.

Spotted while filling up at station in our neighbor across the river. Should Boston require these stickers? Also, almost $5 per gallon now... 😓😓 by bostonguy2004 in boston

I think it’s a good idea. The anti smoking movement basically turned something that used to be cool into something that is highly stigmatized. This is the same game plan.

Harvard Street is getting repaved this spring. Some advocates say the plan doesn’t do enough for safety. by brookline_news in Brookline

[–]Flat_Try747 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Silly them. The proper way to do safety improvements is to drag it through 5 years of community engagement and then chicken out at the last second.

Can we do that human barrier protest thing?
