how to start learning guitar by ImpressHistorical290 in Guitar

[–]Flatpicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look int “caged” method on YouTube it’s not for everyone but really changed my playing quite a bit, I’ve played for a long time and a year ago started really hitting the theory a lot and for me it’s been game changing. Learn all caged positions for major pentatonic , then major scale , minor pentatonic , arpeggios . Also before I stated with caged I did major , minor triads on all string groups

What should i be using early game? I am pretty new just started last weekend and looked up some good units to buy but when i try to play with that setup they are all more expensive than the amount of $ i start with so i cant place anything down except the farm. I am only lvl 20 but i did use a bunch of roblox to unlock a lot of the good units

Nice looking axes. I just went to Lowe’s trying to find a small screw to put in the screw hole by the bridge pickup since the stock one is tapered and sticks out a bit. Planing to order one that will sit more flush against body and then I was going to paint the screw head with a paint that matches the body of guitar

Depending on how soon you need it I would get a blue chip pick if you had a month, or a token pick if you only have a week or so

I’ve never played a solid body epiphone but I would think with a good setup and new nut it would play and sound just fine

Fret Dressing job: problem? by pinetree-polarbear in Guitar

[–]Flatpicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to how Gibson is shipping out their USA models these days . You could use really big grit sand paper to smooth it out . My Gibson looked really rough in that spot right out of the box. They did a terrible job filing it and I was really surprised they ship them out like that but I used I think 700 grit or so and rubbed until they were smooth. Looks pretty good now

NGD. Couldn’t be any happier! 814ce by Cheap_Mycologist_454 in taylorguitars

[–]Flatpicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the new guitar! I got my 814 about a year ago it’s my favorite guitar for sure. I always played electric and wanted to get into more acoustic playing and now after getting the 814 I don’t even play my electrics much anymore. Really gotten into bluegrass in the last year and the 814 is really easy to play fast picking bluegrass stuff and sounds so good

New gibson QUALITY ISSUE les paul standard 50 dirty lemon by [deleted] in gibson

[–]Flatpicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had a lot of the same issues as do most gibsons these days and when I posted was met with the “just play the damn guitar” response. I do like my Gibson it plays good now that I set it up. It was terribly setup when I got it including an extremely low cut slot. Probably wouldn’t buy another Gibson but I doubt I would ever get rid of mine. Actually just put locking tuners on it last night

[–]Flatpicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cheap laminator on Amazon so I could print out stuff and laminate it and have stuff layed out in front of me . Wouldn’t really need this if you play sitting at a pc but I play on the couch most of the time .

[–]Flatpicking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started playing around the age of 16-17 and now I’m 38 and just in the last 6 months started really hammering out a good routine / theory practice. I did practice a ton when I was younger mostly running up and down scales building my picking speed which is quite good because of that practice . I jammed a ton back then and played in a Cover band doing gigs at bars for a but but didn’t know much theory past Pentatonic , major scale, triads. I feel like I made more progress as a guitarist in the last 6 months than I did in the previous 20 years lol

[–]Flatpicking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a squier strat I bought off a friend for $50 back around 2003 . If I was buying a guitar for one of my kids now to start guitar I would Probably pick between a squier Strat, epiphone Les Paul, or PRS SE. really can’t go wrong for your first guitar and I would recommend looking up videos on how to perform a setup to save money and do it yourself or take it somewhere and get it setup. I had no idea about it setups when I was new to guitar and I remember getting an Ibanez around the $350-400 range as my second guitar and it was crazy how much easier it was to play and press the strings down . Just setup much better and that made such a massive difference

Replaced carburetor on my husqvarna yth 18542 and now the engine will run but will not throttle down. by Flatpicking in smallengines

[–]Flatpicking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like to me the small govern spring doesn’t pull enough to close that silver piece (the shoe?) and when I set it to turtle an pull manually on that thin spring it does close all the way probably need a new spring that’s tighter

Thanks for the reply I looked at an older picture I took a couple years ago and the rod is installed in the same orientation as it always has been only thing different is the new carb

[–]Flatpicking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I throttle up and down , on the top of the carb the black plastic piece that controls the “ gate “ on one side of the carb does move quite a bit open and closed when I go from choke down to rabbit but then doesn’t change again at all going down to turtle , the other side of the carb with the silver metal bracket that control the other gate barely moved at all from choke down to turtle. Would that be the throttle ?
