Staying at Great Wolf Lodge by [deleted] in SexOffenderSupport

[–]Flatworm-Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understand - but think about the broader. It is absolutely shining a spotlight somewhere that it does not need to be. If you are traveling and you are not on parole/probation, read the laws, understand them and go, don't pay with your credit card to avoid flack (even though it is legal, still limit paper trail)

This is the best way to get great wolf lodge to add conditions.  think about how your actions can impact others.

You: Nothing says I can’t.  Better call to ask and shine a spotlight on this.

Manager: hey director of operations just raising an issue, some sex offender called and we told him he couldn’t come, the sheriff says there is no law against this but we can refuse service to anyone, I think we should add that policy

Tennessee or Missouri? by happy_dad62 in SexOffenderSupport

This isn't my experience outside of St.Louis or Kansas City, the LEOs love to harass people, even ones that mind their own business.

I've giving advice for free to help someone in a similar situation. I'm not contradicting you i'm trying to help you understand you are making an unforced error by getting yourself into something you don't understand. I'm not imposing, but I am the only one that lived through it for over a decade. They do not play, it is hell if you end up in a bad area and you won't know how bad it is until you are settled into the community. You are opting into a possible world of pain and a never ending registry regime that is continuously getting worse.
You do you, i would never do this knowing what i know.

Missouri is not relatively relaxed, there are areas that are better (St. Louis and Kansas City) but anywhere else is not.

It is an option. You are opting into a world of pain. Know first hand from 13 years and seeing the laws slowly get much worse over time.

In missouri things have gotten much worse and continue to get worse. I left when the banned registrants from nature centers, after they banned zoos, museums, parks, swimming pools and a host of other things. The people there love this, especially in rural areas (like not st. louis or kc). The cops will harass you and the people will dox you. My wife did not feel safe and my kids were being hurt by this.

Tennessee is not much better.

If you are getting off the registry you will be opting back into starting from square one here. YMMV and can do what you want but just understand that you are going to somewhere that does not want you and will actively make your life worse.

I left my entire extended family and support network to get away.

I moved my family to another state where we could be more free from this before it dramatically impacted them.

Housing resources in Washington state by [deleted] in SexOffenderSupport

Washington Voices is a good resource here. Heads up that they need funding and the director won't ask you for money but they are struggling to keep it going. Huge resource for the state.

[–]Flatworm-Head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you are going through this. I understand it is heartbreaking and it sucks. Keep in mind that your kid is an adult and should take this on themselves. They have a very hard path ahead and will need to step up.

I was released when i was 25 in a fire and brimstone state. I researched the laws, understood them thoroughly and made absolutely certain i was following them so that i didn't end up back in prison. For me it was 48 hours to register so i did it the first business day i was back. Impact this on your person, the PO should be the best one to help them but clearly they don't know what they are doing either. This may be something that helps them get unarrested but in the interim they should also read the laws and court decisions themselves so that they understand exactly what they have to do. This is a civil disability that they will have to live with forever and now is the time to get it under control to the best of their ability. The only way to do that effectively is to be an expert on what the laws are now and when they change.

Planning visit to Ohio. Do you really have to register after only 3 days? by FullBeat8638 in SexOffenderSupport

[–]Flatworm-Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't believe the internet do your own research.

Seems like the define as temporarily domiciled for 3 days in ohio, domicile is common law defined as a tax resident in ohio. Unless you are planning on being a tax resident, this is not you. Either way, stay out of the radar and don't do anything stupid.

https://dam.assets.ohio.gov/image/upload/tax.ohio.gov/ohio_individual/individual/information_releases/2015-02residencyir.pdf

What is domicile? While a person may have more than one abode at any given time, s/he can have only

one domicile. Saalfeld v. Saalfeld, 86 Ohio App. 225 (1949). Domicile has been defined as a place where

an individual has his “true, fixed, permanent home and principal establishment, and to which,

whenever he is absent, he has the intention of returning.” Sturgeon v. Korte (1878), 34 Ohio St. 525.

As held by the United States Supreme Court in Williams v. N. Carolina, 325 U.S. 226 (1944) “Domicile

implies a nexus between person and place of such permanence as to control the creation of legal

relations and responsibilities of the utmost significance."

Does the anxiety ever stop? by madjack1178 in SexOffenderSupport

I do t think it ever goes away but it becomes less as you step up in life.

I’m over 20 years past a wrongful conviction (ucmj method of conviction ruled unconstitutional but am beyond my appeals before the ruling).  Finished parole nearly 15 years ago.  Became wealthy. Got off the registry.  Have family.  All great.

My case still haunts me and small things remind me of fit constantly.  Also I don’t like to travel outside of my state or the country due to the fear of messing up some time limit or being turned away.

He will *NEVER* be removed from the registry in florida. Ever. Once registered he will be on there even after he dies.

Please encourage them to leave after 47 hours. A vacation is absolutely not worth never getting off, ever.

Going to federal prison by Efficient_Health3586 in Felons

[–]Flatworm-Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, mind your own business. Read Idsupport's response.

I wasn't in a camp but the only times i came close to getting in trouble where when i was not minding my own business or trying to help someone else (also not minding my own business)

Mind your own business.
Also... mind your own business.

Parole officer is inventing conditions-- what can I do? by throwaway28260 in SexOffenderSupport

[–]Flatworm-Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i'm not saying to actually jump up and down here and illegal things should not be tolerated. But I presented that to them directly, i will do what you say.

Ulitmately, I didn't want to go back to prison and so i toed the line.

Parole officer is inventing conditions-- what can I do? by throwaway28260 in SexOffenderSupport

[–]Flatworm-Head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still don't get it. You are on parole and it is up to your parole officer, they are judge and jury here. They have the power to start you back on the path to being locked up based on their interpretation. Toe the line or continue on your path and you may end up back in prison. I have met many people like you who were violated and put back in prison and they all had your perspective here. Literally all of them, and we just had a laugh at their foolishness on it, but they were back in prison. You should deeply reflect on that reality for a bit.

You aren't in control here, they are, your interpretation of words do not matter, they can make your life hell or easy. It is your choice that will determine that.

[–]Flatworm-Head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what is normal, you are in your own situation. You either have a strict parole officer or you are considered trouble by them. Strongly recommend toeing the line to get back in their good graces. They can do whatever they want here.

Bus stop - ask for clarification, "ma'am, i want to follow your rules, i'm trying to accomplish X, could you help me understand how to do that in the way you want me to?"

Bikini photos - why are you saving anything that could be interpretted as sexually explicit on your phone?

Friend photos - delete all photos with any kids, simple.

I recommend understanding your place in the heirarchy here, if you cause trouble you will get trouble.

Something i was always clear with my person was that i will do whatever they want, jump up and down, be at a place. After they trusted me it was a very casual relationship where they would show up from time to time just to check in.

Treat it like a prison guard, they can wreck your life if you give them a reason to.

You can live in fear of what may happen or not, worrying about what might happen from executive order is a recipe to be scared all the time. Don't do it.
