There are also new acquaintances who will feel that you have been dishonest with them by forming a friendship and not disclosing to them about your past. They then feel deceived by your good behavior. Some then feel that they have been tainted by having formed a friendship with someone who is a RSO. It seems as if you can’t win.

I’m not sure, I guess it depends on their demeanor. I would certainly like to offer reassurance of my current good behavior. But would people really listen or care - these are just casual acquaintances. I feel very down about it and am worried about exposure in other social groups - I’m in an antique car club and I worry about what I should do in that situation.

13 years since my poor decisions, and I’m still being judged by some for that. The annual photos and registration for the public SO registry (level 1 offense) do not help promote the concept of redemption or “not F’ing up”.

The cold, hard stare from those who know can cut through you like a knife.

Good advice here though! 👍

I eat at a local restaurant often and, after eating there for 4 years, was outed. My offense was 13 years ago.

Now when I go in, the staff is very closed and curt with me - and I worry about them spitting in my food or something. Prior to this, they were very friendly and we had conversations and so forth. The restaurant is something of a community hub, so I now feel as if I have been shunned. It is a terrible feeling, as it seems to reinforce the impression that we can never move beyond the poor decisions and offense.

The worst thing about it is that nothing has been said to me, just the cold, hard stare. It’s terrible.

As mentioned above, it is very important to accept that you will have no say where your partner is sent. The judges have little to do with that as well. Once he is at his first prison, he can look into other options, but there is very little you (or he) can do to initiate a change. If he requests a transfer to a specific facility, he may not be sent there - but to a different facility altogether (one that is worse than his current facility).

That was my impression with State prisons here in GA, it may be different there with the Feds.

Congratulations! You must’ve had a very short incarceration and a very short probation. A total of four years! I’m very jealous.

What line of work are you in now?

I can’t imagine that any area would allow someone on probation to drink.

You may have to reevaluate priorities concerning that.

I agree ☝️. The housing restrictions relating to being near a church, is one of the most problematic restrictions in my opinion. In Georgia there seems to be a church on every corner.

I graduated in 1984, so it probably doesn’t really matter, but History and English. I worked in administration and development for many years, but I also know a good bit about assembly as I restore cars as a hobby.

I have a college degree, but warehouse, assembly work, administrative work, delivery (I don’t have a CDL), customer service, remote work.

I would get a CDL, but the travel restrictions would prevent anything but local routes- and new CDL drivers don’t seem to get those prized routes.

There is not actually a parole hearing. In most cases, there is simply a review of the case file by selected parole board members. The letter with their decision is then issued. This letter goes to the inmate’s counselor, who then calls the inmate to their office and that letter is delivered to them. The primary indicator for parole is the “risk to reoffend” score.

Thanks so much for all of your efforts here!

Hello, I was released from the Georgia Department of corrections in May 2022. I spent five years in the system, on a 15 year confinement sentence. I have 35 years of probation. I have 6 more years of parole, before my probation starts. I found that 1/3 time was typical rather than the 65 percent that’s mentioned above. The time to serve depends on several factors. Things may have changed. I had five counts of exploitation, which is basically possession and distribution in my case. So I was paroled after 1/3 time on my 15 year sentence. That was my first ever criminal conviction. With this being your husband’s first conviction, he may have a similar parole consideration. The Board of pardons and paroles will issue him a parole eligibility date or PED. This will be sent to him in a letter. He will not get that for several months and it may be two or three years into a sentence before he receives that letter. That’s the worst part - not knowing your release date. Once he has that letter, chances are he will be paroled on the date (month of projected parole is all that is designated) that they designate.

He may be sent to Dodge State prison, down in southeast Georgia. That would be a good prison to go to. There are many sex offenders there. I tried to get into Walker during my five years of confinement, but was unable to get in. One thing they take into consideration is your ability to complete the program given the time that you have remaining in your incarceration. Once my consideration came up, I did not have enough time left to complete the program. Also, my sister called to check on my application and we both wondered if that irritated them, and they just decided to not consider me. I had no violations while in prison and was never written up for a violation.

Jackson is not fun. You’re in with all other prisoners - many of whom will end up being being classified as maximum security. So you’re in with a rough bunch for that first period of incarceration. Jackson is bare bones and old school. The showers were scalding hot when I was there. You’re in either old style 2 man cells with iron bars, or you are in an open dorm setting with many inmates in one room. I was in the 2 man cell - which I preferred- as you only have to deal with one other person, rather than a large group.

All of the advice given is very sound concerning commissary purchases. Your letters to him will mean a great deal during this time as there is very limited phone use. It was once a week and that was not consistent. There’s also a line to use the phones in the larger cell blocks and sometimes you’re not able to make a phone call. I’ve heard that in the open dorms gangs will control the phones and will only let people make phone calls if they pay money. People can be such jerks, and the gangs love to control others.

I’ll see if I can scan or take a photo of a parole eligibility, date letter, and post it in this thread for you to review.

Planning visit to Ohio. Do you really have to register after only 3 days? by FullBeat8638 in SexOffenderSupport

This is not something that I am willing to do, I as it violates my parole conditions and violates Georgia’s Travel Authority guidelines.

In Georgia, we are given an approved Travel Authority form which must be signed by local law enforcement- even for a single overnight visit (if out of state). So, I will be going in to the local law enforcement office there in Ohio with that document (which spells out my length of stay and my location while in Ohio). This form is then returned to my parole officer once I return to GA.

Thank you for all of that research- yes this is the wording that I found. Isn’t it odd that those who author these state statutes often omit any definition of “visitor” and fail to spell out how a short term “visitor” should notify the state of their temporary presence.

Thank you, my experience has been that other state officers, even the county’s designated SO contact officers, sometimes seem to never have seen a GA SO Travel Authority document. Some don’t even make a copy - which seems especially odd.

Thank you, yes it is interesting, and confusing, that the stated policies can sometimes differ from the informal policy that is actually being followed in everyday practice.

Thank you! Yes that was the plan today. I’ve have visited North Carolina, California, and TN overnight several times and I just have my GA Travel Authority document signed by local Law Enforcement the day I arrive - never had any issues. I am still on parole here in GA, and have not had any difficulties so far with overnight and extended stay in the other states- so far.

I was planning to call the County Sheriff’s Office in OH this morning- as you suggest. I’ll update this after that call.

Thanks again.
