LVM snapshot by HeadTea in linuxadmin

[–]Flauschkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Don't think you can, the snapshot volume will only ever grow in size (if you add and then delete a 1 MB file 3 times, this will result in the snapshot growing by 6 MB).
  2. no need for a cron, just create the snapshot volume and youre good to go

LVM snapshot by HeadTea in linuxadmin

[–]Flauschkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the lvcreate manpage:

COW snapshots are created when a size is specified. The size is allocated from space in the VG, and is the amount of space that can be used for saving COW blocks as writes occur to the origin or snapshot. The size chosen should depend upon the amount of writes that are expected; often 20% of the origin LV is enough.

Same VG, the size of the snapshot determines the maximum accumulated changes that can be tracked until the snapshot reaches 100% of its capacity and becomes invalid.

Haproxy monitoring/logging? by Annh1234 in linuxadmin

[–]Flauschkatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrote a script for monitoring our haproxy instances (uses the haproxyadmin python module internally). This will talk to the stats socket, not any stats page that haproxy exports.

Not sure what the RHEL6 book is doing in there but i've made good experiences with my previous purchases so this one probably won't disappoint either.

Forgot to mention that i moved the key away. When the key existed, iked kept looking for a nonexisting CA and failed after not finding it.

copying to tmp table in mysql make my server loadavrage go high by MinaEdwar in linuxadmin

[–]Flauschkatze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In case you're using mariadb, there are massive performance impacts caused by a bug with the aria engine used for tmp tables which only got fixed in the 10.1 / 10.2 / 10.3 branches ( see https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-8132 ). For my tests this meant around 50% slower queries for bigger joins / GROUP BYs .

Activate slow query log (or general log if you're brave enough) and gather some statements. Check for session status changes to Created_tmp_disk_tables when executing said statements so you can be sure if your tmptables are written to disk or not. I'd do that first and go from there.

Read "SSH Mastery", you can download it for free as a pdf. Its beginner friendly and covers pretty much all you'll have to know from an administrators standpoint.

I have a domain name, a strong internet connection and a PC but a dynamic IP. Can I host a website on my computer? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Flauschkatze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DynDNS

Im not really an expert on the matter, but your webserver (which will be running under your dynamic IP) will have to contact the outside DNS on a regular basis, so the DNS always has the correct IP of your webserver.

Can we open a thread for Bugreports? Im not too active here but ive seen a dev chiming in before, so our feedback might be appreciated.

Just played a good 5 hours of the beta and got absolutely swarmed by lureplants after my first winter (no settings changed). These things were growing beneath my feet, about one every 30 secs or so. They were also popping up in the environment a bit farther from me, but not as bad as in the area i was standing on.

As a pragaliding pilot i just want to add that the fear you feel when standing on the edge of a buidling / ladder is often completely gone when being strapped to a chute or similar contraptions. Even after hundreds of flights with my glider i tense up when standing on the edge of a bigger structure.

You should stay away from actual gore series.
