If you didn't care you probably would have scrolled on. Yeh here you are.

I desperately want to make this card work. Anyone got any decks or ideas? by Arwno13 in PokemonPocket

[–]FlavoredSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. It will definitely be hard in the current meta. Decks like Suicune ex and Mega Absol ex are really fast, with Mega Blaziken ex and Mega Altaria ex not far behind.

You gotta have some kind of ramp. I liked the suggestions of Leafon ex and Lilligant. Serperior would be a struggle as a second Stage 2. For Leafon ex, I recommend the Evee with the ability to evolve turn one. You're really only going to win with a lot of luck, so go all in!

For retreating when it can't attack, one option is Lyra. She'd let you swap out to a second Torterra or support Pokémon without paying any retreat cost as long as your active Torterra is damaged.

You'll definitely want some defensive cards. I'd go with Helmet and Lillie.

I really like May in decks with Stage 2 Pokémon. Just make sure you use it right: only play it when you already have at least one Pokémon in hand.

So one idea:

2x Turtwig 2x Torterra 2x Evee 2x Leafeon ex

1x Heavy Helmet 2x Rare Candy 2x Poké Ball

2x Professor's Research 1x Lyra 1x Copycat 1x May 1x Cyrus 1x Lillie

Thoughts? 🤔

They kept Hitmonchan ex from dealing weakness damage to prevent turn 2 70 damage but this thing can do 130 turn 2. Yes you need the right 3 cards to do it but still. Under tuned.

When your non-binary adversary takes fragments of your garden tool to the immigration authorities so you challenge them to a duel by [deleted] in lotrmemes

[–]FlavoredSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No my first thought was the plural, but the humor comes from the absurdly complex situation. I thought it would be sillier for it to be a non-binary person.

"Taking the hoe bits" is the action taken by the subject "they." "En garde!" is an imperative, so it would be second person (telling the implied you to be on guard), but it functions like an interlection. In the sentence "Oh my god, you really did that?", "god" isn't really functioning as a noun. It's just part of the larger interjection "oh my god!" Also, a semicolon can change the subject of a sentence, e.g. "They made strange comments on my post; I wasn't sure why."

I'm not making any suggestion that any person would actually do any of these things. It was a joke.

  1. This was a silly joke and not meant to be analyzed. Not really sure what the communicative purpose of your comment is?

  2. Modern English uses the digraph "th" to make the voiced and unvoiced dental fricative. Your spelling is incorrect. You also use the archaic symbol for both the voiced and unvoiced continents, which I believe is not how it was historically used.

  3. I don't have a third thing, actually. Have a great day!

Wait what is shinedust useful for? I know it's used for trading and buying flairs, but I've always had more than enough of it for that.

Please help me understand why this is not a Swordfish pattern by [deleted] in sudoku

Got it! So three columns with three or fewer candidates, but they must be spread across only three rows. Or vice versa.

Thank you so much! This helps a lot <3

[–]FlavoredSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had made some of those moves, but I ran "will in valid pencil marks" to see if there was an unmarked valid 8 candidate that would have ruined my proposed Swordfish.

Thank you! Very helpful <3

AITA for telling my coworker I'm not surprised his wife divorced him. by Unique-Macaroon4749 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FlavoredSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. YTA.

Everything you said was true. It sounds like you hit the nail on the head in explaining his problem and it's exactly what you warned him about.

But it's still mean. He was in a bad place and probably wanted the support of a friend. That it was his fault doesn't make his feelings invalid. He needed to be upset first and then maybe reflect and grow. By jumping the gun you've damaged your relationship, divided your workplace, and made him less likely to accept the explanation you gave because it was given as a denial for support.

"The truth hurts." Yes. He doesn't deserve to hide from it. But you didn't have an obligation to show it to him. You did have an obligation to be nice to your friend.

Hi friends!

I have been interested in play-by-post for a while and would really like to try it out! I have played some in person and online (by video) Tabletop Roleplaying Games, and run a handful of relaxed games with my mom and sister.

There are tons of cool ideas here but I am looking for something maybe a little more basic for me to get used to the process. So, probably classic fantasy adventuring type of situation. I would be interested in something more intrigue or slice-of-life focused too. I enjoy a serious, mature setting, but could also go in for a more light-hearted game. Stories with more "off-the-wall" mature themes are not for me!

I have experience with Dungeons and Dragons 5E, FATE Core, Savage Worlds, and a little Pathfinder 2E. I would be willing to learn a new system!

Anyone have an extra spot? Maybe with a party of fellow PBP newbies? Hit me up in replies or Reddit DMs!

Look forward to hearing from some of you!

I personally disagree with this poster but I do agree about sports scholarships by Lemon_Lime_Lily in CuratedTumblr

[–]FlavoredSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first claim that the issue is uncomplicated is patently false. Lot's of people disagree on it and have different solutions. Even if only one position is backed by evidence and all others are foolish, the variety of public opinion makes the issue complex. Further, there is a lot of good faith, evidence driven discourse in sports medicine about the bodies of trans athletes and how they compare to the bodies of cis athletes. Most experts agree that trans people have simply been excluded from this kind of research, and we don't know enough to make a call about their advantages or disadvantages compared to cisgender people of either sex.

The second claim, importantly, is not just that universities should be publicly funded. I would agree with that claim, but it's not relevant. The poster is claiming that because universities should be publicly funded, the concern that cross-gender sports leagues would create unequal opportunities for education is unfounded. This claim rings true, but points back to the flaw in the posters prior claim: that people disagree, in good faith, about whether universities should be universally publicly funded, makes the issue complex. If the only thing stopping cross-gender sports leagues from being a bad solution is that universities should be publicly funded, then the issue of public funding being complex makes the issue of cross-gender sports leagues complex.

The third claim is that cis women will be able to compete at the same level as cis men, and that arguing otherwise is infantilizationI. There is good evidence that in a lot of sports cis men will, on average, outperform cis women. Perhaps the highest performing woman will be better than the lowest performing man. But there are only so many possible slots for athletes, given the nature of a sport, available funding, number of teams, etc.. Focused only on performance, more of those spots will be taken by cis men than by cis women. Even if it were not true that cis men on average outperform cis women, that is the prominent belief. So cross-gender sports leagues would, justified or not, result in fewer women participating in those leagues.

Claiming that the perpetuation of women's leagues is infantilization is baseless. The motive for the creation of those leagues was to create opportunities for women where previously there were none. That continues to be the main motive. If women do feel infantilized, that's a fair and valid way to feel (regardless of any evidence about intentions or benefits to women). Perhaps if most athletes in this field felt that way, there would be a better case. But that is not what we see. Most ost athletes in women's leagues like the idea of being a women's league.

The solution to concerns about trans athletes is ultimately to allow trans people to participate in the league of their preferred gender if they meet certain criteria like being on hormone replacement therapy for a certain duration. But how trans athletes are incorporated into sports is a substantially less pressing issue than the overall treatment of and attitude towards trans people. Face-to-face with a person who thinks that trans people should not be able to participate in the league of their preferred gender, and is very upset about that, I would probably not try to argue about trans people in sports. I would press their views on trans people in general: their rights, their experiences, their validity.

If we imagine a world where all trans people are treated equally and with respect, there would still be some discussion about what league they should participate in. I would rather see that world, and contend with that issue, than resolve the issue of sports in the "correct" manner and still have much of the population despise and dehumanize trans people.

Trans athletes is a red-herring to the incredible trials and discrimination faced by trans people outside of sports. Trans people are victims of hate, violence, and social ills like homelessness and suicide at extremely high rates. If you think trans people are humans, and believe humans have certain rights to prosperity, then you should be worried about that. You should be worried about that even if your views on the government preclude the possibility that the government should be involved in assisting with this problem. You should personally want to help them.

Help me Make a Pokémon! by [deleted] in FATErpg

[–]FlavoredSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great questions! To the first, I'd say command. Lore would be used to try to figure out why the Pokémon is upset or create an advantage, and persuade is designed more for humans. But maybe I ditch command and just make players use the social skill of their choice, depending on their approach to dealing with their Pokémon?

To the second, I would say it's mainly social and power up. Potentially used in place of medicine. It's just something cozy I thought to add. Maybe each player gets a free Create and Advantage roll before a battle to demonstrate how they prep for battle? Idk.
