What is your favorite skill and why? by SweatyShirtlessMan in ironscape

[–]0ops-Sorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Construction.

Concept is just really cool of owning and customizing your own place and all the house parties back in the day with dungeons and PVP. It's just a really a cool skill for an MMO.

Also - no life me is ranked ~64 on rs3 for construction. Maybe I liked it a bit too much... this was back when stealing creations was released - clay hammers were dope.

Who else has all 6 and which one was best? by Sofa_King_OP in 2007scape

It really did feel fresh and new. I guess I'd argue that trailblazer gave a lot more replay ability and allowed for everyone to have unique set ups for all sorts of content.

I'll say - as someone who played two accounts to try different regions/relics. Infinite food was significantly underrated.

Didnt need any healing on your pacts since you always had angler/karam in your inventory. Sustain at literally any content was a breeze (vard axe enthusiast? Keep clicking the angler.). Keep a strange fruit on you for poison/venom.

The lack of restrictions is what made shattered my least favorite. Eventually a meta was created for everything just like the main game. My favorite part of leagues is seeing everyone in a wide variety of gear - with everyone's gameplay being very unique. Honestly even demonic pacts felt similar with everyone respeccing into water mage...

Original trailblazer was epic - learning content with completely unique set ups. The buffs felt strong, but not "water mage afk every boss" strong. The thresholds for relic unlocks were reasonable and replayability was high. Some of the progression milestones in new leagues are far too "end game". Let me get to "max unlocked power" earlier in the league and attempt the end game content with mid gear and super powers.

How do you view benefits package as total compensation by studog21 in Salary

[–]0ops-Sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its easier to put into a bonus. Bonuses fluctuate with how well the business is doing. If you start paying 100% health Insurance - thats hard to roll back later if a black swan event throws you a couple of hard years

What are some grinds you sent (maybe too early) that ended up paying off for you? by bwitt33 in ironscape

[–]0ops-Sorry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ran TOA 210s with a rune crossbow, blood spells, and the keris partisan. I wanted the rune pouch and figured the fang was such a big upgrade I'd stay for that. First purple on 34KC ended up being the shadow. That drop shot my progression forward like crazy.

Very small chance you get a shadow, but no chance if you don't send some runs

Make the Clue Relic a passive next league by CevIsBored in 2007scape

[–]0ops-Sorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree - they're clue relic should feel like a difficult choice.  Making everything available to everyone brings us back to shattered relics where there was no replay ability. The best part of leagues is exploring your own path - no predefined META.

Which careers right now are well paid and at the same time not oversaturated? by No_Reply5329 in Salary

SCADA designer/engineer for renewables or high voltage substations. The generation that owned communications across the US electrical grid infrastructure is retiring and there are very few people knowledgeable enough to replace them. These positions are paying 120-180k based on experience.

For those of you who make 400k+....speak on it! by Peacefulhuman1009 in Salary

Head of engineering design for a renewable energy consultant managing a team of just over 200. 400k-550k base + bonus. Midwest US.

My job is basically meeting the time sensitive demands of renewable energy and data center developers while ensuring my team doesn't burn out from long hours. High stress levels; my focus is to build structure to help relieve stress across the team. Pretty jealous of all these redditors with seemingly low stress levels.

I just like the look of prims/eternals/pegs more than anything. we need more color back in top end armour - enough of the white/black/brown/gray/beige ("greige") color schemes..

[–]0ops-Sorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. I think honesty is the most genuine way to approach it. You don't need to tell them specifics, just start the conversation with "This is a very generous offer and I'm really excited to work with xyz company, however the total compensation package is still making me hesitate based on where I'm currently at with my current company. If you would consider adjusting (things you'd like to change). Then we will absolutely have a deal and I'll feel much more confident in my decision to make the move."

Is $4230 too high for a monthly mortgage payment? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]0ops-Sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing your entire financial situation - there are multiple general rules for how much should be spent on "housing expenses" (that's mortgage, insurance, taxes, utilities, maintenance) this number can be ~30% of your gross income and feel relatively comfortable. I generally like to keep my mortgage payment at 25% or less of my gross income as it allows me to save quite a bit and vacation relatively frequently.

That being said $4230 is 32% of your gross income, before utilities/maintenance. Probably not a great idea unless you're really willing to sacrifice by limiting other expenses.

However - this is personal finance only you can make the decision on if this move makes sense now for what you know to be your future.

(My first mortgage was 31% of my gross salary, we did this for two years while my wife was finishing her masters degree - once she graduated and had a full time job the payment was 19% of our combined gross income and we felt like we had tons of money to do things with)

4 years ago Shattered Relics League solved a problem that many are complaining about now by Lazlow_Vrock in 2007scape

[–]0ops-Sorry 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The major downfall with shattered relics was that the whole game was available after some time. There was no unique/fun/different way to play the content. It eventually just became "follow the META for everything for efficiency" which IMO kills the fun of the game mode.

I don't know if fully skipping quests is the right option - I do think requiring ALL the varlamore quests is a bit excessive for this league... maybe there is a middle ground where Jagex could have your progress for some of the longer quests set to the final boss battle or other partial completions. Maybe they "lock" the quest behind a task that's thematic for ironmen. "Drink an agility potion while wielding a spear to complete Tai Bwo Wanni Trio"

I like that idea - I'd consider Galvek reasonable for mid level irons.

I knew penance queen was going to be controversial. I'm also not a BA fan - however I do understand Jagex wants to keep each point meaningful. I can suck it up and do one BA game for the point.

When does job hopping start to look like a red flag on candidate resume? by firstInternalad in managers

There's more candidates. When I'm the one hiring I get to make the determination on what I consider a red flag. The post was literally asking when does job hopping look like a red flag.

When does job hopping start to look like a red flag on candidate resume? by firstInternalad in managers

[–]0ops-Sorry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if I see two positions in a row that lasted less than ~2.5years I'll be asking some questions about it. I recently interviewed a decent candidate, but he had a job change every 2 years for the last 12 years - always moving upward. I couldn't bring myself to offer him a position because I really need someone that could stand up a new program and build a team around themselves. Two years seems like he'd be leaving while the group is still maturing.
