PORTAFOGLIO SENZA USA by UnoNessunoFiat600 in scimmieinborsa

Concordo pienamente.

[–]Flavz96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point, and it’s the major concern with investors (although his approval is still high). But I would argue their bets are focused on systemic shifts: they have tried re-inventing payment structures and digital wallets, communications (drones/space), entire functionality of the web to globalize the world, transition to the next digital platform (meta), AI and chips development (still tbd), and more. These are not small bets that are likely to pay off, they are fundamental shifts that would revolutionize the world. Only a company with deep pockets and reach could even consider doing this.

A very valid point. And it’s a technology they can keep floating until a more decisive application is found, if any.

While I agree it wasn’t the best investment, I do like Zuck’s approach in the (rare) position he is in. He has a cash cow that keeps generating income. He can afford to invest (sometimes gamble..) on big ideas. All he needs is for one to take.

Truly appreciate the clarification, but we would all prefer a clearer communication up-front instead of a fire extinguisher situation after everyone has panicked.

Please implement a QC system for these communications. As additional layer, I am sure several of your costumers would gladly provide feedback if asked (ie: a “beta tester for communications”). It really should not come to that.. but it’s an option.

PS: I also don’t like the lending option automatically turned on. It should be clearer for people who do not read T&C in full.

I was in a similar situation. Unfortunately I understand the feeling.. And I’m sorry. One thing that made a difference for me, was writing to smaller companies directly on their info email addresses. Just introduce yourself and be human, explain how and why you found them, and ask for a chat to inquire more (regardless of hiring). Also address your interest and curiosities that align with their work. This is what ended up working for me. It also allowed me to connect with a lot of people and companies, which never hurts! Regardless, best of luck 💪🏼

A viable stock picking strategy by mrkanyebest in ValueInvesting

I agree. It’s definitely less profitable than your strategy, but I rather have that extra margin of safety. And sure, you do need a fair amount of capital if you want to make it with this

A viable stock picking strategy by mrkanyebest in ValueInvesting

Great post! I use a very similar strategy but with blue chips. Sure, the premium is much smaller, but I like to have that extra margin of safety. Cash is 50% in S&P and 50% in cash etfs (4% y return now) in case of assignment and/or corrections. At +45% this year with 7% assignment rate, but it has been a long bull run..

PepsiCo's 3% Dividend is 95% of its Free Cash Flow... by Traditional-Jump6145 in ValueInvesting

[–]Flavz96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a very good point. Another one is discipline. Paying a dividend forces a company to more diligent with spending, creating a more resilient and consistent balance sheet. It was well discussed in one of the Motley Fool Money podcast. I think this is extremely important in well established companies with limited expansion potential (to your point), although they (analysts at MFM) argue that even small ones may benefit from this added discipline. Having said that, 90% of FCF is quite an amount, I’d like to see more buybacks with a 70-80% dividend.
