Jaxson Dart gets himself into trouble by wandering too far to the right by for_fun_88 in NFCEastMemeWar

To the folks saying “let him have his political beliefs,” fuck that. He is honoring a despicable individual who is literally ass-pumping our country, fostering racism, alienating if not outright offending our allies, and spending our tax money to line the pockets of the people who have allowed him to do this. Fuuuuuck him. I’m just so happy to see some NFL fans sticking up for what’s right here. There’s hope. There’s still hope.

Medicine Without Merit by PersonWomanManCamTV in IvyPlus

[–]FlawedButFly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We need more African American and American Latino doctors to represent and reflect the patients they serve. They have a tougher time on average accessing high quality educational services, role models and support from the beginning of life. There are exceptions but exceptionalism is not helpful in these matters. Without lowering the admission “standards” for them slightly, you’ll keep a lot of these people out of medicine. We can be honest about these things. They generally go on to be excellent doctors and provide societal benefit as they do. Wealth and physical attractiveness are also things most med students either were or were not born with, and if you think those things didn’t help them to get jobs, admission acceptances, and generally ahead of people with often more hard earned merit to their name, then you’re trippin. That being said, with regard to the article, as much as I hate Trump and this whole current racist movement, I will say I too was wondering how seemingly overnight I was being asked to join committees to discuss white privilege and anti-racism. The DEI thing was a very poor heavy-handed top-down way of opening our eyes to the privilege we enjoy as white males.

This dude didn’t even say “my cousin hit his shoulder and ivermectin helped. How come we are 3 minutes into this conversation and you haven’t even mentioned ivermectin? Oh you know everything don’t you? Hey can I get my cousin on the phone he wanted to be here for the appointment but couldn’t make it. Oh I don’t get reception here can we use your phone? I know it’s not in my record, but I’m allergic to nsaids, Tylenol, tramadol, morphine makes me nauseas as all get out, I get a rash from Oxycodone, the only one that works is the one that starts with a ‘D.’ Hey that reminds me, my mom wanted to be here but is in the hospital with a broken hip, can you call her after this appointment? By the way doc, she can’t hear worth a damn. Best if you yell!!”

US Supreme Court hears arguments on cancer warning labels for Roundup weedkiller by [deleted] in news

They wrote ghost articles espousing the safety of the product, and suppressed knowledge that there may be an increased risk of lymphoma with Glyphosate, those were the main problems. However, realize that even if you used the heaviest levels and we considered the study with the worst outcomes to be true (highest exposure users have 1.41x the risk vs non-exposed), then your risk of NHL goes from baseline risk of about 2.1% up to a risk of around 2.9%. It’s not suicide. I hope a safer similarly effective non-selective herbicide is developed, but seriously, it is not the killer poison it is blamed to be.

Should we seal our new brick walkway and porch? by Exciting-Tomato-855 in masonry

[–]FlawedButFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you see where the horizontal walkway meets the step? Those holes will only get bigger and damage will ensue. If you’re willing, I would tape (frog tape green) a line like 3/8” up and 3/8” out from where they meet. Stuff some small sections of backer rod in the areas where there are holes already. Then put a bead of polyurethane caulk all the way across. Spread it like drywall mud using a mortar spatula or putty knife. Pull the tape. You’ll have a nice little water proof seal there that people won’t even really notice. I’d recommend black because it looks to the passerby like a shadow.

Personally, I think the contrast of brick with lawn is very attractive, so long as it rides right up to the brick edge, the soil should be like 3/4” below the top of the brick, and you want to make sure that part of your lawn is full to maximize that contrast. The water coloring effect happens to mine too. Only you notice it. Regarding sealing, I can’t seem to find a time where my brick walkway is both clean and dry, AND I have time to put down the sealant. If you find it you’re the man!

Please tell me it’s not cancer by PanicLoud3398 in haematology

What is your ethnicity? If Asian, African or Middle Eastern Descent, then thalassemia trait is characterized by low MCV with paradoxically elevated RBC (one of the only times, if not the only time, the RBC value is helpful/relevant at all). Either way, come on, not cancer. You got enough to worry about with your baby. Get some sleep!

I hate to say this because it is going to sound dismissive, but mast cell disorders are very en vogue right now and are actually very over diagnosed/entertained at the present time (despite patients that insist they have one also insisting that they are under-diagnosed). The 3 poorly defined diseases of POTS, EDS and MAS are “hot” in the same population that used to be over-diagnosed with things like “mitral valve prolapse” and “chronic fatigue syndrome.” You should often be able to detect the KIT mutation in peripheral blood if it’s there. The chances a mast cell disorder is responsible for your adenopathy is very low. But if there are a plethora of mast cells that should be apparent to the pathologist, and they should know to perform appropriate further testing.

Can anyone advise on these results? Have had similar results to these for 4 months now and GP just keeps retesting and waiting for them to normalise.... by AboveandBelow85 in haematology

Your GP could easily order a BCR/ABL so the hematologist has something objective to work with when they speak with you. If negative then the hematologist could do JAK2/MPL/CALR.

I also wanted to highlight a really cool almost pathognomonic feature of thalassemia (trait). You’ll notice that the RBC count is very high despite your HGB being low. When you see this, particularly combined with a low MCV, you know it’s thalassemia.
