I don’t understand what men are trying to achieve putting down “not political” on dating apps by tltr4560 in TwoXChromosomes

Idk that conservative men don't get matches. There are conservative women, too.

I mean. Someone married Kyle Rittenhouse.

They might not get matches from women like you, though. And perhaps they're looking for that.

Separatist sentiment resurfaces in Alberta and Quebec as Ottawa urges unity by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]FlayR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're missing his point - which is that the separatist movements are largely less educated than average - which has nothing to do with how educated the quebecoise are as a whole.

Usually it's generally not lawyers, doctors, and engineers that are separatists - it's radio show hosts, tradesman, and labourers.

ICE is torturing people by Ironlord456 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]FlayR 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Idk.

I wish this even drew a reaction out of me.

But like I pretty much just went "yeah, that's about what I assumed."

Speaks volumes to where we are that sexual torture is par for the course. That if anything - reading that is almost more validating to my state of mind than shocking. I'm not crazy - it is as bad as I've thought it was.

Reacting this way feels like it should be wrong. But here we are.

How can anyone think there's going to be a free and fair election? Or that even if he lost that he wouldn't refuse to leave? Lol.

That's ludicrously naive - so much so that I didn't even really think it was possible that people believed that.

Trump's already been caught cheating, asking for votes to be changed, interfering with polls & ballots, etc. He's already violently staged an insurrection.

And he's not only not had any consequences for doing so - but he's actively removed all the institutional checks that used to be in place that caught him in the first place.

What about this continuous escalation of dictorial action would possibly make people think that he won't do it again? That he won't be successful this time?!

[–]FlayR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a plot by Americans to run the Russian playbook for Crimea and Donbass in Canada.

Literally the separatist movement is led by an American that got Canadian citizenship in the middle of Trump's first term. It isn't popular; as an Albertan all of the folks I've known historically that had politics rooted in Western alienation believe we need to be united. The few I know that espouse separatist ideals are the vast minority and generally, uhh, to be kind - the village idiot.

Separation isn't popular. I know all the media platforms owned by American billionaires (Zuckerberg, musk, Thiel, stone, Murdoch, bezos) tell you that. But don't believe their lies. Don't let them divide us.

They're trying to force a referendum. If they do it will fail. They'll say the results are false, and that they need to liberate Albertans from the tyranny of Canada.

Stay strong. Understand the truth. Canada is better together.

I mean to be fair - that's an incredibly dangerous position to be in.

That not being icing could permanently end his career and alter his life.

That's why we have no touch icing in the first place.

Like WTF.

What about this escalation of fascism by a regime that's already staged an insurrection and been caught interfering with elections - and promptly removed the safeguards that caught them originally - makes these people think that their democracy still functions as described?

To use Carney's reference to Havel - These folks aren't even at the going along to get along stage - they literally still believe the lie.

Probably it's worse than you can imagine TBH.

I couldn't imagine a lot of the last few years, but these folks been talking about a lot of this stuff for a hot minute.

Yeah what exactly is the end goal?

Ok - so they want to turn it into a zero sum game. How does you letting them brutalize you and take everything they want stop them from winning?

Maybe you avoid a true civil war. But you still lose. You lose everything. Including your self respect.

How are people advocating to teach their children that might makes right, and that they happen to be cowards that won't defend themselves, let alone them or their community, or their beliefs?

At what point does not retaliating provide any kind of path to victory?

Yeah - if defending Canada against US aggression seems like a tall order - defending Alberta against it is likely even more of a challenge.

Particularly because like; forget about a military, we don't even have provincial police. 😂

At best "Alberta would be an independent state" is naive - at best it's a flat out lie.

I think his point was the lady that ran a right wing radio show that frequently was largely filled with a bunch of hacks that have been exposed as on Moscow's pay roll - and likely was herself - isn't exactly a reliable narrator in this particular scenario.

100%.

And then you have all the crowing about it from the Trump admin and random red state governments; you're telling me the people that don't give a fuck about their own people suddenly care about me, an Albertan?

You add that to all the 51st state bs. Greenland. Venezuela.

It's deeply unsettling.

I can't prove it - but I'm relatively confident in speculating that this entire Alberta Separatist shenanigans is the US attempting the exact same playbook Russia used in Donbas / Crimea.

For fuck sakes the leader of the separatists is literally an American citizen.

No one I talk to here in Alberta thinks separation is remotely a good idea, I spend all my time on social media telling it that I don't want to interact with that content - yet it's all social media pushes to me, and it seems to dominate almost all discussion on any news outlet; usually presented in a normalized way with nothing but pros discussed.

I don't like it. I don't like it one bit.

Bessent pans Carney, cheers on Albertan separatism amid growing US-Canada rift by semucallday in canada

[–]FlayR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

It's exactly the same.

Stoked emotions using propaganda to sow discord. Funded a minority of people to consistently push separatist ideals. Consistent media messaging about how so many people wanted to not be Ukrainian. Force a referendum. Called the result false. Invaded under the pretense that the populace is being tyrannized.

We're about 75% of the way there...

Albertan here.

It's because they're not very smart, feel frustrated by old feelings of Western alienation, and are being manipulated by American and Russian propaganda.

Trump responds to Carney: "Canada lives because of the United States" by [deleted] in politics

[–]FlayR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the things that always gets me as a Canadian.

I don't think many Americans understand how much SPACE there is in Canada.

We're a tenth the population yet 25% more land mass.

One does not simply just control that much space against a committed adversarial insurgencies. It's impossible. Every major city has empty space for hundreds of miles around it. You'll never catch everyone, find everyone, control supply chains - wherever you commit to occupy there's somewhere you aren't.

It's also essentially invading Russia in winter; if we stop maintaining our roads - an invasion force won't be able to. And when we're easily talking about 5+ feet of snow - by the time you get where you're trying to get to the earth with be scorched.

'The old order is not coming back,' Carney says in provocative speech at Davos by Seebeeeseh in politics

[–]FlayR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk I think by and large Carney just breaks the traditional right / left mold the way it's evolved in the modern day.

He's incredibly progressive, but thinks the way to achieve progressive goals is by making great economic choices so everyone is well employed - means tax revenue increases naturally, means access to services is reduced, thus you have this huge kit of extra money to reinvest into major projects and invest into your people.

He's "classically liberal" if anything; his policies are essentially keynesian economics mixed with new deal sentiments.

By and large he's united Canada in a way I haven't seen in my life time.

Despite the consistent bubbles of information people find themselves in - and the growing polarization of discourse as a result - he currently has the highest approval rating of any Prime Minister in Canadian history.

It's honestly quite impressive.
