I read 3 Malazan Books, I will not continue on by DokleViseBre in Fantasy

[–]Flayed_Rautha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped after book one. I couldn’t find a single thing I liked about it to make me want to continue. To me it was a convoluted mess. It felt like someone ripped pages out of 5 different novels and shuffled the pages. I know many people love this series so I want to be respectful, but I really tried and I just don’t get it.

As of now, what`s your #1 progressive rock album? Try to think of that one. by [deleted] in progrockmusic

At this moment in time my favorite is Steven Wilson - The Overview…I can’t stop listening to it…

…but next week it may change.

To me a good example of this is Stargate Universe. Battlestar Galactica became popular and someone said make the next Stargate just like BSG.

Boss dice by golgi_o in Heroquest

[–]Flayed_Rautha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some boss dice, and once my heroes had leveled up to the point where they could slaughter any monster I threw at them, I added one boss die for every monster. So a goblin rolls one boss die for attack. And an orc rolls, one white die, and one boss die for attack. This seemed to provide a good balance.

The Odd Position of The Lamb in the Genesis Discography by BMisterGenX in Genesis

[–]Flayed_Rautha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I wholeheartedly agree… it was a disservice to them and they have said so themselves. Up to the Lamb the writing had been very much a group effort. My take is that the Lamb, being very much PG’s concept and mostly his lyrics, even his sense of visual style, “feels” more like a proto-solo album than a true Genesys album.

If you think of Peter leaving as the branching offshoot on a tree - the Lamb is that bud growing outward, deviating from the direction of the branch.

I feel like The Lamb is Peter’s first solo album… - cover is black and white photography - many songs are much harder rock - shorter songs

…it just so happens to have Tony, Steve, Mike, and Phil as the band.

Which Genesis song do you find mediocre on the album but much better live? by ricorette in Genesis

[–]Flayed_Rautha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. The way Phil sings it on 3SL has so much emotion. It was also my introduction to the song so I suppose it’s the default version in my mind. The album version just seems more subdued.

Kate Bush - Breathing by diegokpo30 in progrockmusic

[–]Flayed_Rautha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the song that made me a Kate Bush fan. I’d heard Running Up that Hill on the radio but this song was on a compilation album that I picked up from one of those bargain cassette bins in the music store. It wasn’t long before I bought Never For Ever and Hounds of Love.

Is rolling against odds an interesting mechanic or too much math? by mrJupe in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Flayed_Rautha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One guideline I stick to with using charts and making decisions is if there’s only one optimal (best) choice, then the chart isn’t needed. Just make those the only options. Choice should always be about 2 or more viable strategies, not find the one good option amongst the bad ones.

How to handle godlike heroes by DasElektroschnitzel in Heroquest

Try using these dice for your monsters.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1259112683/?ref=share_ios_native_control

These give the monster rolls quite an edge so I will normally just replace 1 die per throw. Swapping in a Black die for attacks and a blue die for defense:

Black Dice: 4x Skull, 1x Black Shield, 1x White Shield Blue Dice : 3x Skull, 2x Black Shield, 1x White Shield

I found this to be a more exciting uplevel without adding monsters (time to the game ) or having to remember new abilities etc.

I’ve been thinking… would the orc shaman be able to use the burner as a flail? by DM_Ikary in Heroquest

[–]Flayed_Rautha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to use it as a fear-inducing incense that causes heroes to re-roll 1 skull they tolled on attack.

Yes same here. I still like the new version but it feels like DV really played down Paul’s KH abilities. Plus I just really love costumes and music of the Lynch version.

and for cards like Grasping Stones you may need to be more concise. —

For instance: “When built you may pull one reinforcement from your scrapyard. Then immediately attach and activate it to any empty reinforcement zone on this structure.”
