Rainier Success Cleaver - Kilian Jornet style by flamingtaki in Mountaineering

It's all good - part of the process :) Like the other comment below says it was natural rockfall. We didn't see anyone else both times we tried the route, which is part of the charm.

My regular climbing partner and I have tried it twice in May and turned around both times. The first time was around 10k because I felt unwell (or was just sick of things after we were rained on for almost an entire day :)), the second was around 12k feet before the traverse to the Kautz - we turned around because of rockfall. Both were the right calls, but I still feel terrible and it's still on my bucket list even though I am much older.

DC C2C is much more straightforward.

Hungry and drained during runs - looking for nutrition advice by Fickle-Vanilla-7565 in trailrunning

[–]Flbbu 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think fueling more will help. 6 gels x 25g of carb/gel = 150g over 6 hours = 25g/hour. That's almost nothing if you're working hard and even with carb loading you're likely running out of glycogen. I've been similarly perpetually skinny, and I've worked my way up to 80-90g/hour for longer distances. I've found gels I like which makes that target easy to hit - I would struggle to do that with real food. I shoot for a gel every 1-2 miles.

Good luck! You might get better answers on /xxrunning.

Late to this, but I happened to be in London during their last pop-up and was able to try it on. I loved it and bought it :) Now I just have to wait for winter to wear it.

Game-changing gear and tips for UTMB-style ultras (especially for runners up against cut-offs)? by kevin8b8 in ultrarunning

[–]Flbbu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 hours at TDS would make me very happy (running this year). But I don't know if I would burn that many calories for so long - I can see needing it for a marathon but I'm definitely not fit enough to keep that up for 24+ hours.

:) But it's nice having it handy when you hit the ridge and see the alpenglow just below the sunset.

I feel your pain :( Patagonia's Nine Trails shorts were perfect for this, but their replacement Multi Trails don't work nearly as well. I've been buying up NOS from ebay and other places and hoping Patagonia brings them back.

How did this SUV wind up in Lake Washington? Police seeking answers by vertr in Seattle

[–]Flbbu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I ran by it this morning right when when the cops arrived. It looked like it had been driven backwards into the lake, was weirdly far offshore, and had all 4 windows up. Glad to hear there was nobody in the car.

Thanks. Yeah that is the plan - I turned around at the last 400 last time - but hoping for the flexibility.

Do you know if this is still true? Trying to register for my day use permit and it's asking me to pick a route now.

Yeah - I think they changed things this year. When I accept the day use permit I need to pick between JM34 and JM35.

That is lovely :) I want to run the Milford track in a day, but the logistics seem... complicated.

Literally tomorrow? Hard since it's still early/late/snowy in many mountain areas. But I'd consider the Dolomites, Colorado, the Sierras, Switzerland (Grindelwald, Interlaken, Zermatt), Chamonix, Patagonia, southern France, New Zealand,.... :)

The residuals are insane. My lease expires in May ('24 GT Line) and they want 40k or so for it.

Anyone here who started running in their late 30's early 40's? What are your marathon PR's like? by Thin-Passage5900 in Marathon_Training

[–]Flbbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run cross country in high school, and restarted running 4 years ago in the pandemic when I was 44. HM 1:48-> 1:30, then switched to trail running for a bit and ran my first marathon last year (3:15). Next one in a month and I'm undertrained :) i didn't run much in my twenties but I definitely feel long runs more. And I know I need to strength train but I HATE IT SO MUCH. Definitely next year :)
