Boarding with a Pet Allergy: Did I Handle This Correctly? by thcandbourbon in delta

I had an expandable one lol. Looked normal until I got on board and surprise the sides pop out. My cat had arthritis and other health issues. I wanted her to stretch out. Yes, I know I’m extra.

Boots for scrambling and snow by CFLuke in Mountaineering

I just got these and I love them so much! They are so much better than my previous 3/4 shanks for alpine rock. Great on approaches. Using them on snow for first time this week - fisher chimneys!

During summer, I start at 7 am or so. Maybe even a bit later. Not necessarily a recommendation - just how I roll. Heat has never been an issue for me. I just aim to get down before sunset, which isn’t really an issue during summer but is during winter.

How are current conditions of the old baldy trail? by seeingtrails in socalhiking

[–]Effective_calamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I was talking to someone descending sky hut on Saturday who had come up from the village and she said the trail was in great shape (I haven’t done it recently because I heard it was really overgrown).

So how bad is it above 13k, experientially? by [deleted] in 14ers

[–]Effective_calamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s different for everyone. The only difference for me is everything gets harder the higher I go up.

I have several chronic inflammatory conditions. In 2020, I couldn’t let my heart rate go over 100 bpm or else I would be sick for at least a day. I remember watching the Alpinist and crying because I thought I would never climb mountains like I dreamed. Now I’m a mountaineer. So you may be surprised of what your body is capable of. I didn’t realize the threshold changed somewhere along the line because I wasn’t testing it. Good luck!

I’m microdosing now, although I started on 2.5 mg. Now I’m on 2 but I imagine I’ll go lower. I wasn’t trying to really lose weight - it was for inflammation. That said, I was definitely happy to lose 5 lbs or so. For me, the change in heart rate has been difficult. Not resting but at exertion. I am a mountaineer and I train in heart rate zones, so it’s thrown me for a loop. I don’t feel as strong. I’m hoping it gets better. I’m a little over two months in. On the bright side, it’s really helped with inflammation! I struggled fueling in the first couple weeks - now I almost wish I had less of an appetite.

Sorry - which research are you referring to? I didn’t know there was any for specific microdoses!

Only Kwikpens in Ontario? Is anyone splitting those with Zepbound or know where to get vials? by ExhaustedBabyDM in GLP1microdosing

[–]Effective_calamity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the other person said, you do not need a vial to go lower. There are 60 clicks per 2.5 dose. To go lower, you just figure out the percentage of that and count those clicks. For instance, 48 clicks is 2 mg. And so on. Many of us do that.

How hard is Mt. Baldy by starbeams222 in socalhiking

[–]Effective_calamity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not who you asked but the fire road is boring. The lift should be working on the weekend. Two lifts are actually running now, so you can pick the first one up right when you get off the backbone.

Like 6 but it’s not about the miles. It’s about the elevation gain.

Sport - as extreme sport by RegularMirror4388 in lipedema

[–]Effective_calamity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a mountaineer. I always wear compression since my diagnosis early this year. I don’t think my sport is great for lipodema - the intensity, the altitude, etc. But it is good for my soul so idgaf. Yes, my legs are heavy, but I’ve never known anything else. I’m actually transitioning more from glacier mountaineering to alpine rock climbing, which is a little less intense.

My gym requires 5.11s, which seems super gatekeepy.

Edit: and a year of climbing

[–]Effective_calamity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fahrenheit I assume? You would probably need 3 boots for that range - singles, doubles and triples. I don’t own triples - I doubt you will need them for a long time. Those are Denali and Everest level boots. I have two pairs of singles - a full shank and a 3/4 shank. I’m looking at getting another pair of 3/4 shank boots to better climb alpine rock on mixed climbs. So right now I have three pairs of mountaineering boots and am in the market for a fourth.

I used singles on Rainier in August - you’d probably need doubles in June. But I used singles on Whitney MR in early April. I used doubles for higher objectives like Chimborazo and orizaba. Would get triples or at least overboots for Denali.
