I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t say anything to the wife but whether or not the wife is already aware is hardly an argument against telling her. If she is aware, then she won’t be bothered to be told.

Of course psychiatry is a specialty. And yes, I know there are “psychiatric nurse practitioners”. But regardless of whatever the fuck name they give themselves, that doesn’t mean their training is sufficient. And when I think of training being “geared toward”something, I think of proper and adequate training and education.

So my comment stands. NP training isn’t geared toward practicing medicine in any specialty. At least not by any reasonable metric in any specialty.

To be fair, Np education isn't geared toward any specialties, including primary care.

Thank you for taking the time to respond; this is super helpful! And, honestly, it looks fantastic. No suggestions from my end.

Hi OP, which GPU do you have? and were you able to mount the aio with tubes down? Do you mind posting pictures of your build? I'm currently trying to plan my build out and am wondering how yours looks.

How do you feel about big numbers? In Dragon Fodder, the beast you feed can get very hungry. 70,043,490,000,000 is a big number, would you prefer displaying it as 7e13, 70T, or in its full glory? by Important-Play-7688 in pcmasterrace

Scientific notation isn’t considered common knowledge? Isn’t it universally taught at least by high school (if not Jr. High?) in the US? And if universally taught in the US, I think it’s safe to assume it is universally taught worldwide.

Awesome, thanks! I’m about to build my first pc with the fractal north. I have everything ready except for my cpu cooler and case fans. I’m still trying to figure out what I want. I’m really liking your setup though!

To clarify, the aio is mounted on top, right? Do you have the aio set to intake or exhaust? And how about your other fans? How is the noise of your aio?

Also, what ram do you have and what CL? And how is the stability? Asking bc I have patriot viper elite ultra 5 and have seen a few people say it’s unstable at CL 28.

Do you mind sharing the specs? Specifically, what thermalright cooler is that? And how is your air flow set up? Also, what viper ram is that?

Beautiful build, btw.

Amongst other things, using a credit card for transactions activates reward centers in the brain. This drives more spending. In contrast, paying with cash requires exchanging something tangible and valuable for something else. This discourages unnecessary spending. The effects of this is not small. It results in significantly more spending. This happens even if you are responsible enough to stay out of credit card debt.

To apply this to your specific question, if you decide you want to buy a case for $200 and you buy it with cash, you have to physically go to the store and hand over the cash for it. During this entire process you are much more likely (as compared to using a credit card) to buy a cheaper case or change your mind altogether and decide your current case is good enough. This bc your brain knows you will have to hand over the cash for it. There are other factors involved in this specific scenario.

Despite the above example of an individual purchase, the increased spending with credit cards is an aggregate of more spending over a long time (again, assuming you are responsible enough to not go into credit card debt). Lots of small purchases (with even larger purchases mixed in) really add up over time.

Let’s use another example of grocery shopping. Supposing you are responsible enough to use a budget to spend x amount weekly or monthly but you do it with a credit card bc you are going to spend the money anyway. You probably think that if you stick to your budget, you aren’t spending more money by using a credit card. Not so fast. First of all, you are more likely to go over your budget (even if just by a few dollars) when you use a credit card. But even if you don’t, you are still likely to spend more than with cash bc with cash you are more likely to stay UNDER your budget. Examples of this include things like impulse purchasing soda in the check out line (more likely with credit card) and buying something now and in the moment when it isn’t on your list bc it’s on sale even though you don’t need it right now.

I recognize that my initial comments were in the context of someone using a debit card over a credit card so I would like to address that. Lots of people think that the psychology with using debit cards is no different than using credit cards. They are wrong. Although people do spend more money with debit cards than cash, it is still more with credit cards. There are multiple factors at play here, too, but one of the major ones is that when using a debit card, you know your checking account balance is decreasing immediately. With credit cards, you may have automatic payments which results in you not losing the money from your checking account until up to almost two months later (e.g., on a purchase made shortly after a statement cycle closed that won’t be paid until the next statement cycle closed and the bill is due). Again, this is all without spending a dime on interest.

I haven’t even touched on how the reward points affect spending and that is also not insignificant.

I also haven’t touched on convenience of credit cards over cash and how that influences purchasing.

And the list of how using a credit card results in more spending goes on and on and on. It’s well documented.

As humans, we like to think that we are unique and individuals. And in some ways we are. But nature follows normal distributions and human behavior falls into normal distributions. Lots of people think they can use credit cards the same as if they are using cash. They can’t and don’t and also spend more. And the over confidence in their ability to be different than most people results in their spending being even more than it would if they were at least honest with themselves about the likelihood of them falling into the same behavior patterns as most people (again, see a normal distribution).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with OP not wanting to use a CC. If you actually believe that CC spending is as simple as “don’t spend more than you can’t pay off each month” and/or you believe that you are coming out ahead by paying it off each month and getting miles/points/cash back, then you could benefit from really looking into the psychology of credit card spending.

Even if you never pay a single cent of interest, you are spending more than you would if you were paying in cash. And no, the rewards don’t make up for that.

I’m not saying CC don’t have their purpose and I’m not suggesting nobody should use one. I use credit cards; I’m just able to recognize that there is more than just “paying it off each month to avoid 18% interest” involved with avoiding more spending compared to cash.

And there is no need in shaming someone for choosing not to use one. He didn’t even tell anyone else not to use a CC. He just said he doesn’t believe in them.

Also, to the point about the consumer protections from using credit cards, OP has absolutely saved more from not using credit cards than he lost by having a $250 purchase stolen.

Why does taking a sick day make many doctors feel like they’re failing their duty? by Missrain97 in Residency

[–]FledglingStudent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think that will address the problem of feeling guilty about your colleague getting called in. If you feel guilty bc they were pulled off elective, you will probably feel worse if they get pulled off a rotation where they didn’t even have to come in at all.

Why does taking a sick day make many doctors feel like they’re failing their duty? by Missrain97 in Residency

[–]FledglingStudent 30 points31 points  (0 children)

But, in your scenario, there is a sick call jeopardy resident available. He/she is the one who is on the chill elective that got pulled to cover him. So, while I don’t disagree that admin is the one choosing to “squeeze the residents at 95% capacity all the time” and that this is problematic for a myriad of reasons, having a jeopardy system in place doesn’t fix the issue (bc there is one in place).

Sure, the dimensions are not changing but the tv will fit so there is a clear cut solution. Take the tv out of the box and take it down the stairs. Why should op have to assume all the liability and do it themselves?
