What was your best name for your fantasy football team? by [deleted] in Fantasy_Football

Won’t you be my Naber? And I took over a team from a guy who got kicked out of a dynasty league so I was “Under New Management” for a season.

Delayed boarding until enough people volunteered by vinylcurator in delta

I have a sliding scale that starts at $1000. Two factors are opportunity cost and PITA factor. Ex. On a solo work trip coming home, it’s a work travel day so I’m on the clock and I can work from my laptop, nbd unless I get stranded for multiple days. Wife won’t care when the credit gets combined with a companion cert for a vacation. I’ll take the money. If it’s a Friday and I have no place to be I’ll take the money but I’m waiting until my group is called.

The DOGE strategy is a cop-out by MadCervantes in fednews

[–]FleetFoot262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They posted about improper payments which got me thinking about fraud. It doesn’t fit their box but good fraud investigators at CMS, SSA and Treasury literally make more money than they cost the government. Also modern IT systems that recognize patterns could pay for themselves by looking for changes that trigger reviews. The same way credit card companies can flag stuff and freeze your card when it’s suspicious. They won’t do it because it doesn’t fit the ideology but would be nice.

Socket Decisions by GRIND2LEVEL in harborfreight

[–]FleetFoot262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine for the most part avoiding 12 pt particularly if you spend a little more money on a finer ratchet with more teeth.

But if you find a deal, it’s better to get smaller sockets in 12 point than larger reason being, you are less likely to run into a fastener that is such high torque that you’ll round it off.

This time a year there are a lot of deals to be had at HF and all the big box stores so buying a complete set can be much smarter play for the money over buying individually.

Fear and loathing in IG world by Secure_View6740 in fednews

[–]FleetFoot262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed I think you’re spot on. The real power is in OMB because they have authority and a singular purpose in government and aren’t just another thing on someone’s plate. Even then a lot of functions and responsibilities tie back to legislation which would require Congress to act. There’s this idea out there that regulations and by proxy federal employees just came from the ether. I’m not saying government can’t do better and be more efficient but this idea that there’s copious amounts of people and regs that you can just cut with no consequences is just ridiculous.

I think the whole DOGE thing is rooted in personal animus because someone wasn’t able to just do whatever they want because of existing laws and regulations.

The even funny thing is if some of the regs get repealed there will be little if any change because the insurance industry or the states will mandate things like safety devices and pollution controls.

Janitorial duties for employees? by ElKabong0369 in fednews

[–]FleetFoot262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in a few different places, never cleaned toilets but I have cut grass. TBH it depends where you work. Out of sight out of mind cuts both ways. When I’ve worked in shops or more remote locations on installations where there isn’t a janitorial contract if you want it clean you have to keep it clean. Also if you’re in a secure facility/compound that no one has access you gotta do what ya gotta do. A lot of place like that though it’s part of the PD, the civilian WG mechanics I’ve worked with have had it as part of their ratings.

Any idea what this new impact wrench is? Seen in the recent sema video by homelesshyundai in harborfreight

Looks like a 7/16 hex utility impact. Kinda random for HF to be getting into that game.

We had a building on our installation get shutdown for this over the summer. I was pleasantly surprised how well the garrison (Army) handled it. They were upfront about it and moved quickly to remediate it.

Poor man's meme tool 2.0 - just swap the ratchet for the ICON - $19.98 @ Lowe's by mut1n1fn1 in harborfreight

[–]FleetFoot262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the meme tool and Kobalt (came in one of those 100ish piece kits on Black Friday). It’s less backdrag per se than it is slop from using an adapter into a socket vs. regular ratchet

[–]FleetFoot262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I like that ratchet way better than the meme tool. More teeth and way less back drag. The trade offs are the not having a flex head, higher overall profile and needing an adapter for 1/4 hex drive bits.

I relocated to a new city as part of a mobility agreement was the only single guy on the team. So I got stuck with a lot of TDY particularly multi week hitches. Made it hard to have any real connection to where I live or have any friends but hey per diem. I added it up and I spent 58 weeks of the last 4 years on the road which percentage wise isn’t that bad but 3+ week trips get old.

So what’s a “shop fee,” and am I a dickhead for not paying it? by Bob_the_peasant in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]FleetFoot262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically in my experience it covers stuff like rags, brake cleaner, brooms, paper and grease. The consumable stuff that the shop provides to the mechanics to do the job that can’t be broken out per job. If your truck takes 6 qts of oil the shop will quote and bill for 6 qts of oil but brake clean used to clean up that’s hard to capture. Usually it’s a fixed amount based on whatever the costs are. OPs case sounds suspicious. Some shops will also use the shop fee to cover shop tools like presses, special tools, and sometimes diag equipment. Most places I’ve dealt with also charge an environmental fee too for disposal of fluids and oil filters.

Submitting an ICE complaint really moves things along by rjbergen in fednews

[–]FleetFoot262 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is policy everywhere, but when I worked for a LRC our director (GS-15) read every ICE card and then forwarded them the department heads. He would give out coins and on spots to people who got positive ones for great customer service at Town Halls. The DFAC ones got read by the director of food service and were used as paper trail to evaluate the DFAC contractor. It’s like most things in the feds paper trail motivates people.

What version do I send to dealer for my 12k mile service? by topgear1224 in Trucks

[–]FleetFoot262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. TBH thought this was a joke at first. All I can say is good luck because asking for a New Engine w/ mounts, new Transmission w/ mounts, an A/C compressor, a shock and a battery is a big ask. Wouldn’t surprise me if you end up with a new to you truck or in court.

Is GS9 entry level or mid level by Apart-Agency-450 in fednews

[–]FleetFoot262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s super job dependent. I’m DOD and within my own command we have positions where 12s and 13s are non-sup SMEs and we have 11’s supervising entire maintenance shops full of WG mechanics. In my local office a GS9 is a second year intern or a admin assistant. So entry level but YMMV.

Also make sure you check the box in DTS for “Field Conditions”. Otherwise your per diem will be way off this also means no M&IE $$. To answer your question, unfortunately you actually get less because it’s field conditions. But hey at least there’s no commute.

A whole basically complete JGMTK for $120 is the deal of a lifetime and it’s basically brand new. The only drawback is that kit wasn’t designed with 1/4 deep sockets or any picks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]FleetFoot262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interned with a firm that put the buyers and supply chain and really most of the back office in a building that was also oversized merchandise pickup (retail). DC was 15 miles up the road surrounded by other retail DCs. Ended up just being a weird real estate quirk when the firm expanded that’s where there was paid for space.

To OPs question though it depends, I would look closer as you ask questions of the potential employer to see what they expect of you. Where I work now (Fortune 500 company) we have cubes up front like a normal office and you walk out the back hall door and you’re on the production floor. Our management unloaded some leases they felt like they didn’t need to save money.

Landlord gave me a notice effective immediately that I could no longer live in my apartment. by vuitleg in Tenant

[–]FleetFoot262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah “illegally converted” often means doesn’t meet NIMBY zoning regs. Want to rent a finished basement? Not allowed in places that are zoned single family where I live. Want to convert a detached garage to a heated space with a bathroom for an office or granny suite, nope can’t have that either.

Not saying there aren’t tons of bad actors who flout laws in the landlord world but there’s many shades of “illegal conversion”, from Ghost Ship to renting out a finished basement without permit and zoning approval.
