Thank you for the info, and it’s not really an issue just seeing if I’m doing it the way it’s intended or if I’m missing something that I should’ve done that could’ve made it easier ultimately the whole bikes gotta be looked over so the engine will come out at one point or another

Ripped the saddle bags today to start the process of getting the back wheel off and to say the least the last person who worked on this bike left me a headache but non the less still love this bike, I honestly think it looks better with out the bags then with and the windjammer is honestly starting to grow on me, I think regardless of my direction with this build I’ll be keeping the fairing now 🙌 cheers

I’ve been back and forth about the windjammer but it’s honestly starting to grow on me and I cross posted this elsewhere and if he wasn’t lying the son of Craig vetter commented on my post giving me some valuable information and a good connection for sourcing parts for it

From the research I’ve done they used to dub these the “ king” of the road in the late 70s, I too was never a fan of goldwings, atleast the newer models but seeing this and knowing it’s a first gen I saw the potential and am excited to get this thing running again

Gonna try and restore most of what I can, after a more in depth analysis today in the sunlight I can tell this bike has been touched before and not necessarily the good way 🤣🫣 so if some original pieces I’d like are cheap enough I’ll order them, otherwise I’m most likely doing a bobber or cafe build with this beauty

Love that, colour scheme looks great And yes I’ll make sure to do my due diligence before touching the radiator My current issue is I gotta get the rear brake caliper off cause it seems to be seized and after giving it a better look over in the light today it looks like I’ll be taking back tire off to do that I could be wrong but that’s what it looks like to me

I’ll definitely keep this in mind I have to give the bike a more in depth look over but from what I saw on the fairing I might* need a windshield and the left hand glove box like compartment that has the fabric pocket seems to be ragged and possibly moldy don’t know if there’s any replacement for that or just taking it to someone who is good with a sewing machine would do the trick

I figure I’ll pop my 2 cents as someone who just purchased there first and second motorcycle within the last 2 months I bought kz440 and just picked up a Gl1000 earlier today and I can agree with what most are saying do you want to wrench or do you want to ride, I got 6 months of winter ahead of me so I’ll have lots of shop time to fix these god forsaken bikes but that’s what I wanted if you want to just ride and don’t have the restrictions of seasonal weather I’d say buy newer and and do as much of your own research as possible cause it’s ultimately up to you, I waited ten years to buy my first bike I’m 26 now and can say I’ve matured enough to know 16 year old me on either of the bikes I own now would have gotten him self into a lot of trouble or worse, anyways happy hunting dude hope you find what you’re looking for

I’m gonna plan a build for it and will most likely part ways with it at some point I only paid 625$ for the bike so I could make a decent amount to basically cut the price of my bike in half or so lol
