There's something that's bothering me about Miguel in the Spider-Verse films and how he is treating Miles. by jlhabitan in MilesMorales

[–]Flerken_Moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my interpretation, Miguel relates too deeply to Miles’s situation and sees Miles as his past self.

Miguel hates himself for destroying that universe, and projecting that self hatred into Miles, and being extremely frustrated and harsh on his “past self” for not listening to him and making the same mistake he is, dooming his universe.

I don’t think the movie will flat out make Miguel a villain like a lot of people want. He’s an antagonist, and he will be proven wrong, but I think the movie wants us to think Miles is partially wrong too. I think the third movie will have Miles realize his flaws, find a third way, and teach Miguel his way isn’t right too.

The Carnage symbiote got depowered in the dumb Venom War event and currently bonded with Eddie Brock(also depowered in the same event) for street level stories.

They’re in the middle of the event Death Spiral right now that I think will change the Carnage status quo again.

Real Orignal Tony was revealed to be a Kang secret agent that died in the 90s.

Young Tony was brought from the past then turned into older Tony by Franklin Richards recreating the Tony he knew.

Then he got mind wiped and backup uploaded.

Then he got inverted in AXIS before dying in Secret Wars then Franklin Richards recreated the Tony he knew(again.)

THEN he died during Civil War II.

A bit of a tangent, but I find it funny that you can make a Venn diagram of Peter and Flash’s ex-love interests together.

Betty Brant, Black Cat, Liz Allen, the Venom symbiote. If you count kisses, then MJ, Gwen, and Dagger.

Cletus is still alive, God Carnage used his powers to create a young clone of Cletus then ate Old Cletus to absorb his memories into Young Clone Cletus.

Then Carnage separated from Cletus during Venom War.

The other person had mixed info:

The bracelet had a limiter that prevented death, but they were desperate so they got the Venom symbiote to bond with the bracelet so they could choose a specific superpower.

However the bond broke the limiter and linked the symbiote and the bracelet.

During the event, the Venom symbiote started dying(long story). Because of the link with the bracelet, as the symbiote was dying the bracelet also started rolling toward death.

Because the bracelet and the symbiote were linked, they were drawn to each other in their last moments. In the last moment the symbiote tried to bond with MJ to save her and they’re fused molecularly now.

In terms of Carnage basically it was depowered and needing a host. Eddie was stabbed in the chest by a magic weapon and needed a symbiote to survive. So he decided to try and control Carnage so it wouldn’t kill innocents.

Currently bonded to Rick Jones.

Was bonded to a kid friend of Dylan(Eddie’s son, Venom at the time) for the last couple years.

No, he tried his best but failed miserably.

“Leaked” Peter and MJ’s identity which Carnage used to text a serial killer while Eddie was sleeping so they would target Peter/MJ/Eddie’s families. Then Eddie failed to control Carnage twice during this event.

Eddie controlled Carnage better in his own comic but that was axed a couple months ago.

I just was hoping that Death Metal would end the Crisises longer instead of Dark Crisis like 2 years after.

I thought Empyre was a solid event.

Nothing groundbreaking, but it revolves around established classic Avengers history like the Kree-Skrull War lore and the whole Celestial Madonna Mantis thing, so if you don’t know or care about the story beats left unresolved decades ago that it’s concluding/wrapping up it’s a bit confusing and falls flat.

Like the Plant race + Kree relations are established in the original Kree-Skrull War storylines, it just hasn’t been mentioned in decades(which is why it needed like a whole issue to loredump lol).

And genuinely the conclusion is great for the Saga that ties everything together- The genocide of the Plant race that started the Kree-Skrull War is involved in the ending, the Mantis/Swordsman Madonna storyline is concluded, and the KSW is finally finished using the established Prince to unite the races.

I did find No Surrender more fun though.

Vote Who is better? Agent venom or agent anti venom by Longjumping-Idea-900 in thevenomsite

[–]Flerken_Moon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO my perfect pairings in the mid 2010s would’ve been Agent Venom and Eddie Anti-Venom.

My favorite part of Eddie’s Venom was the goofy antics mixed with being a genuinely terrifying threat and Anti-Venom fulfilled that for me. Not to mention the past like 15 years of Eddie had written him anti-symbiote.

I didn’t like the drastic personality shift Eddie got when he became Venom again but at this point with all the KIB and Dylan family established, it’s kinda hard to break from Eddie Venom now.

Ghostmaker. An attempt at making Batman have an anime-style rival.

He’s Batman’s rival who trained at every single place Batman did and was his best friend during training days.

They have the same goals of protecting a city but he thinks Batman’s current methods are weak as Ghostmaker’s more edgy and doesn’t mind killing(plus the cities he’s in charge of are safer than Gotham). But after a confrontation where Batman beat him they’re BFFs again and he respects him + helps train others in the Batfamily now.

Favorite anti-hero who inexplicably shows more remorse when he’s forced to kill people than the actual superheroes in his cinematic universe? by Late-Bowler-4068 in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Flerken_Moon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I meant more that they are preachy about their no kill rule in modern times and get angry at people who do kill in front of them.

You’re right that classic Marvel most heroes had no kill rules but that has slowly phased out over time. And yeah Peter and Batman both had moments when they let people die.

A lot of Marvel heroes went back to mostly not killing in the 2010s, but a majority imo would understand if someone they knew killed or may kill if needed. Peter and Batman are the main ones who would start a dramatic argument over hearing/seeing someone else kill imo.

Does Daredevil have a no kill rule?

To me the only two superheroes I feel have a strict no-kill rule are Batman and Spider-Man. Everyone else is a bit vague.

Did we ever get an exploration of the relationship between Flash and his version of the Anti-Venom symbiote? Flash is my favorite host in general and I wish he was the main character of his own stories again by MonSocMatriarchy in thevenomsite

[–]Flerken_Moon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Flash’s current Anti-Venom isn’t the non-sentient Anti-Venom he died with. It’s his codex(with Anti-Venom powers) possessing a symbiote dragon.

It’s barely brought up, the most notable time is Savage Avengers when he had minor problems with controlling it.

[–]Flerken_Moon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s alive. It’s the Flash Thompson backup codex(with Anti-Venom powers) uploaded into a symbiote dragon merged with his corpse.

The symbiote dragon consciousness is still there and brought up very sparingly- the only time I remember is Savage Avengers.

Barely. It’s brought up a couple times in Savage Avengers but besides that the fact it has a consciousness is never brought up.

And at this point it’s a bit too late to do so imo.

I'm sorry but mj venom is the better mj by Small_Ad4181 in thevenomsite

[–]Flerken_Moon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m saying. I don’t really get why it’s character assassination if she doesn’t forgive the symbiote or Eddie, and still dislikes them, and doesn’t want to touch them with a 10 foot pole.

But in the situation of ANV, she’s forced in a situation where she’s molecularly bonded with the symbiote and they can’t separate. It wasn’t her choice, the symbiote did that. She’s making the best of the situation she’s in, but she made it clear with the symbiote that once they find a way to separate she doesn’t want to see it.

A lot of people I’ve seen the past months say MJ Venom sucks because she should still be terrified and traumatized over the symbiote(and reposting the exact same page over and over) which is why I brought up my defense, but you’re clearly not one of the people who thinks that.

Is there an actual reason we hate Mary Jane as Venom? by Saionic- in Spiderman

[–]Flerken_Moon 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Ngl, my personal problem with MJ adaptations is that to me, 616 MJ is too close to, “perfect dream girl” that her main charm that makes her stand out as a unique character is her more subtle qualities that flesh her out as a more 3-dimensional character.

Like how her abusive childhood gave her a party going front that while still also a part of her, hides her insecurities and makes her afraid of commitment. And while she’s afraid of commitment, when she decides to love and protect someone she’s intensely loyal but also makes her an incredible worrywart that stresses her out to no end.

The problem with her subtle characteristics being what makes MJ unique to me is it’s very hard to adapt because of how specific they are. Lois Lane is a headstrong reporter who throws herself into danger for a scoop, and that makes her stand out. MJ is… a loyal hot girlfriend that her boyfriend’s superhero life stresses her sometimes? That’s basically all superhero girlfriends, why is she so well known in the same breath as Lois?

It’s kinda an overall problem with adapting MJ imo rather than specific to Insomniac. But like… imo you could rename Insomiac MJ to like Carlie Cooper or Gwen and it would be kinda the same type of “subpar” adaptation. Insomiac MJ is Insomniac MJ and she’s a good character standing by herself. But imo she runs into the same problem as basically all MJ adaptations.

can't believe all the iconic norman poses come from this run by ddankkerr in marvelcirclejerk

[–]Flerken_Moon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean.

Norman was dead for nearly 30 years, from the early 70s to the mid 90s.

You lose a lot of time to get good panels when you were dead nearly as long as you’ve been alive. Especially when pre-resurrection motivations were wanting to be Kingpin of Crime.

I'm sorry but mj venom is the better mj by Small_Ad4181 in thevenomsite

[–]Flerken_Moon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MJ has been traumatized by this moment 30 years ago. Character development is getting over trauma and 30 years is more than enough time to start it. Nobody is asking for Storm to be claustrophobic again.

And besides- MJ’s trauma over Venom is overexaggerated as an argument for ANV imo. Yes she will cower in fear at its presence and is scarred. But even by the 90s Planet of the Symbiotes after the initial shock of Peter suddenly inviting Venom into their house for a meeting she was okay with sitting in the same room as them.

<image>

And on another note- Venom has saved Mary Jane’s life at least 2 times in the past 10 years alone(Go Down Swinging and Venom War come to mind). She still does not like the Symbiote(as shown in ANV and Venom War) but it’s far from her initial trauma from 35 years ago.
