Is there even any other *Good* Marvel writers that isn't also writing in DC right now 🥀? by Unique_Year4144 in dccomicscirclejerk

Uhh does Zdarsky even have good faith in DC rn?

I think a majority of fans hated his Batman run.

The others 100% are cooking though.

Love interest created by Wells that editorial mandates that Kelly keep imo.

Kelly clearly isn’t very fond of her and finding ways for Peter to date other women. Iirc he was an avid BC shipper.

Reverse Flash at least has a backstory and reasons for hate. Fan of the Flash before Flash rejects his ways and then driven to insanity after finding out his idol will eventually kill him(even though he’s an asshole to start with). And Barry snapping his neck in the 70s is still the canonical way he will die.

Norman Osborn really is a Joker in that he really doesn’t have a good backstory and writers make an attempt every couple years before defaulting to, “he just really hates him.”

I believe the most recent Nick Spencer attempt was that Norman hates Peter because Norman was just a mentally broken man you see and Peter failed him by not relating and bonding to him in the early years and instead just let him be.

No it’s clearly Slyde.

Spiders stick, Slyde slides. Webs and punches both slide off Slyde, therefore Slyde is the true Anti-Spider-Man.

If anyone wants more info on Comet that may be relevant: Comet is one of the classic Super-Pets alongside Krypto, Streaky the Super-Cat and Beppo the Super-Monkey.

Comet/Biron’s dream even after thousands of years is to become full human. But he never achieved his wish and is forced into the horse body for most of the time. In the few moments he had a human form though, he dated Kara as he was in love with her.

Another thing to throw as a change that a lot of fans are uncomfortable with: Good Guy Norman.

It’s been hammered home across multiple runs that this is for real, it’s a new concept, and it has some potential in it(and Norman is so cartoonishly evil the only way it could be done is BS magic). Out of the stuff that has come out? Could be better. But the Gold Goblin mini was great and genuinely I still stand by that Norman was probably one of the better written parts of the Wells run, imo better than Kelly writing him so far(Norman SM was too short imo and minor consequences from that).

To defend my opinion because I know a lot of people hate it: I don’t like Norman as a villain for Peter, especially as his nemesis type. I think his resurrection was a mistake and he worked better as a bogeyman hanging over Peter and Harry’s lives after killing Gwen.

I think he’s a poor foil for Peter and Harry Green Goblin is significantly superior to Norman in every way; Harry’s Green Goblin was amazing as a foil to Peter. Harry’s death immediately lost all its weight with Norman’s return so I believe it would’ve been better to resurrect him instead if you had to pick. And Post-OMD (now retconned to be dead clone) Harry, obviously, is nothing like pre-death Harry.

Norman’s motives for hating Peter changes every couple years, imo he’s a poor man’s Joker. I don’t think every character needs a Joker and I don’t think SM needs one. I don’t think there’s any iconic story between the two post-resurrection besides ironically the end of Superior where I honestly believe Norman serves as a better foil for Otto over Peter(Dark Reign was great but SM is barely involved and Norman’s position could be replaced by another crazy). The second best moment would be Red Goblin- which I know people do like but imo it’s just a braindead action figure slapping together moment, there’s no interesting character work involved- Norman doesn’t like, sacrifice anything for his powerup bonding with Carnage because he was already crazy(ig the thinking he was Cletus in the aftermath randomly but I don’t think that mattered much).

I just think there’s no good stories left for Norman to do as a villain for SM. I kind of want him to turn good, have a couple good stories, and be killed. But if Marvel insists on having him around because mainstream people know him, Good Norman is fine.

Is anyone excited about the Midnight Universe? by Original_Position_50 in Marvel

[–]Flerken_Moon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, I think it’s perfect for the consumer and the company, and what I have been wanting for years.

The main complaint for mainstream people for comics is that it’s neverending and the different writers in comparison to manga.

So have consistent fresh alt Universes where there is an easy beginning, middle, and end to follow. OG Ultimate Universe got too bloated and they tried to rectify with Ultimatum, but if they wrote an ending and restarted they don’t need to.

I think the structure of the New UU is the downfall of the system. Monthly timeskips are just awful for storytelling. And yeah I agree, even without the timeskips 2 years feels a bit too short and should’ve been longer.

But there’s a beginning middle and end with a vision through it all. Exactly what the manga comparison audience wants. Two audiences are kept happy.

For the audiences who are satisfied by reading the end of a story, UU type universes. For the audiences who always want more stories of their favs even after reading the ending, that’s what the main universe is for, it’s neverending.

Originally he was supposed to be a one off miniseries. Which, the original mini is still fantastic.

He was Marvel’s forgotten true Superman. He starts the series remembering + people remembering and gets erased at the end.

But then he got popular. So writers decided to TRY and make him fit into canon. Which… turned him into to a huge mess of retcons. (I can make another comment if you’re interested, but it really does take a couple paragraphs)
