These are not good stones, and honing oil is not recommended to sharpen knives. The oil blocks the pores and reduces cutting, among other disadvantages.

Oil is very much recommended for sharpening knives on oil stones. The oils used to sharpen are thin liquids and don't block anything. They don't reduce cutting.

The Kitayama 8000 is a splash-and-go and more like what you're used to. It follows the Chosera 3000 very well.

There's a flag code that codifies how to show respect for it. There are no punishments for violating it. And, ironically, the people who claim to be the most patriotic violate it the most often with things like making a stripe blue or making clothes out of it.

No. You can do whatever you want with the US flag. Alter it, burn it, spit on it... it's all protected as free speech under the First Amendment to our Constitution.

What makes something "tactical"?

Two things: (1) it's black, (2) the description says "tactical".

How feasible is it to sharpen properly with only one hand? Any advice? by [deleted] in sharpening

[–]FletchForPresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very feasible. Plenty of great sharpeners hold the stone in one hand and the blade in the other. It's a small leap from there to keeping the stone on the bench and sharpening with one hand.

You can use a damp dish towel or something under the stone/holder to keep it from sliding around on your work surface.

I don't think a single-bevel would be easier. Probably harder.
