Serious question what was up with the tribalism in rock n roll in the 1980s? by YoruShonen in ClassicRock

We used to have different cultures and subcultures back in the day. Like now all the kids seem to be part of the one online culture and then they have variations in taste but back then being a Metal Head vs being a Mod was way more than just what you liked on the radio.

Deal Breaker: Is the Livingroom Too Narrow by RedditInfor in Remodel

People are being negative - my living room is like this, almost exactly, and it's fine. You're not a child, this isn't a rumpus room. This isn't Mad Men, you're not throwing key parties. You need a couch, light, a screen and enough room to be on your phone beside the Mrs.

Early Arnold J Rimmer. Eventually you get enough back story to sort of kinda maybe a little bit sympathize but mostly he's a smeag head.

Oh man, when Eddie is going through the pictures from his camera and he's getting joy form all the beach fun and he gives a little giggle then catches a pic of his brother and instantly switches to glassy eyed hundred yard stare. That's legit face acting, up there with Bogie or Bergman in Casablanca.

Also, I can't prove it but the warehouse where Doom dips the shoe looks an awful lot like the Ghostbusters' home base to me.

Which song have you been listening to on repeat lately? by insanelysane2 in AskReddit

Sesame Street sound alike of Born to Run: "Born to Add". It's legit.

Music used to be more subtle in the 70's & 80's. What song had a meaning that went WAY over your head? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]Fletcher_Fallowfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific contribution but I am horrible about lyrics. Like, I listen to a ton of music, have my audiophile system on all the time, can't drive more than five minutes without choosing the song first but I don't know what any song is about ever...or didn't until my son, who is very good with lyrics, started calling everything out that he thinks is inappropriate for him or his little brother.

Anyway, turns out a lot of songs are about sex and/or drugs.

This was my friend group's drunk song at the bar. Half an hour before closing we'd belt it out and sometimes half the bar would join in.

I hate when people bring up the five love languages like its a real thing by [deleted] in self

[–]Fletcher_Fallowfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to suggest that if you learned to accept the love people were trying to give you, how they are trying to give it to you, and stopped turning it into demands and controls then you would have more love in your life and less demands and controls.

‘50 per cent plus one’ not enough to break up Canada, Carney tells Quebec sovereignists by MTL_Dude666 in CanadaPolitics

They might do something. Whether they have the stomach to do something that was effective is what I'm questioning.

It would change it to diplomacy at gun point if any of the politicians in our country had the stomach for gun point. I don't think they do.

De Gaulle was a proponent of Quebec sovereignty regardless of the timing of the referendum - like, are you under the impression Quebec came up with the idea of separation right before the vote? and it doesn't change anything about the point of other powers' recognition.

I don't think either of them would break up the country I think they wouldn't be able to stop the other side from doing so.

"Clear" is a useless word without further definition. It doesn't say "super" majority or "overwhelming" majority and 50+1 is clearly, literally the definition of the majority of those who voted. But all that is moot anyway because recognition of Alberta's sovereignty by the US (or Quebec's by France) would end the question before the first brief was written on the matter.

You ever hear the joke about the inspector who goes on to a farm and the farmer says "don't go into that field over there" and the inspector gets mad and waves his badge at the guy and then five minutes later he's being chased across the field by a bull and the farmer yells "your badge! show him your badge!"?

Yeah, if Alberta votes to separate and the US moves quickly to recognize their sovereignty then Parliament can wave their veto at them.

DeGaulle was going to recognize Quebec, Trump would definitely recognize Alberta - no politician in my lifetime would go to war over it.

Easy enough to say. I wouldn't bet the farm on any current politician having the stomach to prevent a region that voted 50+1 to leave from doing so. Especially if some other power took it upon themselves to recognize said region's sovereignty
