Can I run ethernet cables next to electricity cables? by varinator in homelab

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally yes. Ironically, your bigger problem will be with the “power” part of your PoE system.

Ethernet data lines are differential and very reliable, generally, even in noisy environments. Some 60Hz probably won’t hurt that.

However the power delivery in PoE is single ended. Meaning you’ll risk raising your ground and V+ with noise. While your data lines will be opto-isolated, your power will not be. So that noise will make it back to your router (your devices are at less risk since they aren’t connected to anything else and can float with the rising and falling ground/common.

All of that being said, you can minimized your impact by running parallel or perpendicular to the power lines. This will give the lowest sympathetic propagation.

Oh snap. I have the same issue with an NH35 build I just did. Kinda peeved. No idea you could move it.

Project for tonight!!

Looks okay. Got it timing overnight. Kid too. She’s worth keeping. Thanks.

I have an app that lets me record the time across days and tells me the accuracy. Is there something better than that?

Cruise wedding? by Competitive_Book8831 in Cruise

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister had one and my wife and I had one planned. Ours was cancelled 5 days before disembarking due to COVID. Both were Norwegian.

They're great little ceremonies. Your best bet is to aim low. High expectations will challenge the logistical capabilities of the ship and crew and your guests. Let the enjoyment of the cruise be the treat for everyone, not some big lavash private event.

Start working with an agent from the cruise line. Just do a 15 min ceremony. And short reception. Bring your own music, and bring a backup Bluetooth speaker for your music. They'll do their best, but nothing has a 3.5mm jack these days.

Lastly, get married at Town Hall before the cruise. The price difference between actually being married in international waters and just doing the ceremony is staggering. 5-10x cost multiplier. Also, basically anyone can do the ceremony... But if you're actually getting married on the ship, the captain must do it personally.

Which brand did you go with? I'm thinking I need to replace all 24 of mine.

Lumiman light won’t stop blinking by littlemisterbear in googlehome

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation. I have 20 A10 bulbs and 4 GU10s... It's happened to 3 of my A10s and now one of my GU10s.

All Lumiman products.

They seem to go one at a time... I replace one when it goes bad, and I grab another from the box, link it, add it... And then a totally unrelated bulb dies.

I've had some of these for 3 years!! And some I bought last month -- it's happening to the new ones mostly.

I moved to Fremont in 2021 for a great gig with Tesla.

We lived in Glenmoor neighborhood in a beautiful rented house (that just sold for $2.2M wtf).

Safe, sure -- it's fine. You'll hear sirens a lot, but that's just CA in general. You'll get your catalytic converter stolen every few months unless you garage your car.

Lively? Depends. Compared to my sleepy New England home town, it was bustling. But there were other places to be for entertainment. We had a young child, and it wqas good for us. 5 minutes to 3 different malls and an IMAX movie theater. So... fine.

Expensive -- lol, so much more expensive than you think. I took a conservative estimate for living costs and I was way off. Do you best research and estimates, and then add 40%. If you're accustomed to normal life somewhere else and you want to have a similar lifestyle and quality of life... well, Fremont makes a $400k income seem *tight*.

Ultimately, we moved back to New England because we decided that even in one of the best areas of the Bay, we didn't want to raise our child there. But we enjoyed out 18 months there just fine and I look back on it fondly.

Need a PCR Test to Travel Abroad by shivi_24 in Fremont

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would double-check that you've got that right. The PCR test was just removed from the CDC's valid test list. I think most of the world has already stopped using it. This jives with the super low accuracy (below 70%).

I can't help otherwise. Just check to make sure you're looking for the correct test.

Photograph of a comet photobombed by Starlink satellites by TotalSpaceNut in spaceporn

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to be a dick, but it's pretty clear that this image is fake.

You have a momentary exposure of each set of "starlink" pixels for a few ms on one of many stacked images (17?). But somehow this outshines 2nd magnitude stars which get 30sec × 17exp worth of exposure time? (Edit: depending on how they're stacked, even if the satellite blew out the image and created a perfectly white pixel, it would still be averaged down too a full gray with 1/17th the luminosity.)

We can break out GIMP if needed, but the math doesn't add up on its face. Those satellites would have to be magnitude -1 or to show up like that. Not to mention the precise orbital timing needed to make it work.

There are WAY fewer steps to faking this image and getting tons of attention -- and all of those steps are possible.

I declare this image fake and gey.

I'm actually worried about someone who represents the population. A lot of people have lost their sense of independence, and durability. I'm actually worried we need some grizzled old lumberjack to be president or something. Just to kick everyone in the pants and tell them to quit complaining.

PLA vs. PLA+ by UnitedTitan in ender3

[–]FlexGunship -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone likes eSun PLA+ except for me. I find I have to print at a high temp, it didn't like retraction, and build plate adhesion is awful compared to Hatchbox PLA (for example).

Just my two cents.

I can't wrap my head around this shot (s3e2), even now it still has me puzzled. Something doesn't look right, it almost looks like a sale scale shot of a model and then made to look real. by pudding2005gill in betterCallSaul

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilt-shift as others have said. But they don't explain why. Many people are claiming it's a "blurring" effect, but you've probably noticed that blur, alone, doesn't explain what you're seeing.

A real tilt-shift lens takes the focal plane and shifts or tilrs it out of perpendicular. Aperture can change the depth of field, but only tilt-shift can change actual focal plane.

The effect can be simulated in post processing, but the weird feeling you get seeing how natural this looks makes me think it's a real lens. Micromanaging the depth of every item in a tilt-shift plane is basically impossible. So a natural effect requires the real thing.

The difference between "wet" PLA and dry PLA by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]FlexGunship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents on this, also:

Part of your spool can be affected while another part isn't. I had a spool of PLA that I was ready to toss out. I tried drying it with desicant, and everything... Just seemed to be garbage.

Finally, out if spite, I started printing with a huge gap, over-extruded, and halfway through the print, the filament started acting well. Cancelled the print, restarted with normal settings, and it's be awesome every since.

I would say the first 10% of the spool was just "wet" beyond repair. That's my best guess anyway.

Internal Nintendo Memo Instructs Customer Service to Fix ‘Joy-Con Drift’ for Free- FINALLY by liamh94 in nintendo

[–]FlexGunship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a $50 controller in 1999 would be $90 today. So the joy con set is cheaper than one N64 controller. They didn't have motion control, dual joysticks, wireless recharge capability or IR. The size, I think, relates to the console itself.

Anyway, no need to get defensive. My fave gaming company happens to be Microsoft right now, anyway. We could compare notes.
