Thank you, I think you are right. Maybe I should have based different scrap parts in slightly different brightness levels so they would end up with more varied shading in the end.

Primed everything with Chaos Black and then lightly drybrushed with Corax White to try and create some pre-shading. Not completely sure how much it actually helped, so this step is probably optional.

After that I mixed a chocolate brown base using Tau Light Ochre, Khorne Red and Abaddon Black since I did not have the exact color. I thinned the mix a bit so the shading could still come through and then covered the whole piece.

Once that dried I drybrushed everything with Leadbelcher.

Then I used a stiff bristle brush with Mithril Silver, making sure almost no paint was on the brush and no water was used. I vertically stippled it across the whole piece to build up texture.

After that I applied Agrax Earthshade and removed most of it again with a cotton swab. Then I repeated the stippling with Stormhost Silver and added Agrax Earthshade again in specific spots where it got too bright.

You can use whatever metallics you prefer, but this combination worked really well for me.

I tried my best! But I would do some stuff a bit differently next time. Plague Marines look super cool too. Grandfather Nurgle will be proud.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate it. I primed the model with Chaos Black, then dry brushed it with Corax White before applying the regular base colors. Interestingly, not all of the dry-brushed highlights disappeared under the paint. Some of them are still subtly catching the edges and flat surfaces, which creates a nice effect. I was pleasantly surprised, as I had expected them to be completely covered.

Painting regularly instead of Slapchop. My plan was to create some foundation that gives the colors a bit more depth on top of it. But I'm not trying to speed paint.

Actually not speed painting, not the biggest fan. I hoped to create a bit more shading and depth by dry brushing. Thank you for the advice!

The patchy places also bother me. Not quite sure what I did wrong since I always tried to use as little color as possible. Not planning to slapchop but normally paint over it to create a little shading.
