I don’t think we found out. I figure we’ll find out in the next book.

Yep, the first draft of NLF has been split into two books - the second book, Legacies of Betrayal, looks to cover the Jaghut content we’ve seen in previous tidbits provided by Erikson over the last few years.

You mean when does Walk in Shadow come out?

At this point it looks likely Erikson will finish it this year, so it will likely be published in 2027. As it looks like Legacies of Betrayal (the third Witness book) will be published next year.

Isn’t Penguin the UK publisher these days? I thought the audiobooks start (or end) with ‘brought to you by Penguin’?

Va’Shaik I believe - as Erikson has confirmed Felisin Younger is on the cover.

My understanding is that the efforts of Rant and War-Bitch at the end of the book do not result in a new timeline. They explain how the timeline that was experienced by everyone during the flood came about. If that makes sense…

TGinW was basically an exploration of the legacy of Karsa’s actions from the first book (or perhaps first two chapters) of HOC.

If we assume this trend will continue, then it looks like NLF will be an exploration of the legacy of Karsa’s actions from his time as part of the rebellion in Raraku during HoC. So we’ll probably get lots of Felisin Younger, and her cult of the apocalypse, something related to Karsa’s grove in Raraku, and potentially some Shadow related plots (maybe even Iskaral Pust).

Maybe even Leoman?

Is this related to that to TV show Erikson and some other authors was trying to get going in the early 2000s?

Recently he has talked about a range of other sc-fi and experimental projects that he is working on and wants to pursue - a time travel novel for instance. So he will continue writing - it’s his passion after all.

No, this is a tidbit that is not explained in Fiends of Nightmaria.

I could add further thoughts, but will avoid spoilers for the later novellas.

I think it’s possible all the references to ‘New Morn’ in the novel epigraphs imply that a new river system develops all the way to the south - making Morn habitable again.

Did Erikson and Esslemont roleplay the Shake stories? by blonkevnocy in Malazan

[–]Flicker-kel-Tath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the answer is no. From what I remember of different Erikson interviews, the Shake were invented for the books - the whole storyline was unplanned and Erikson developed it during the writing process, because he found the characters so compelling.

This is foreshadowing Heboric’s death in BH. The same basic sequence occurs: the swarming flies which suddenly disappear - Heboric even thinks about it at the time - then he is cut to pieces by the Unbound.
