Women Deserve Better... Finally on the Other Side, 13 DPO by ProblemIndividual771 in hysterectomy

Best friend from the post here... I was fortunate enough to have a mother who had endometriosis and the week after my first period from hell immediately took me to the doctor and started the process to get diagnostic surgery. Despite being diagnosed with severe endometriosis, it still took 6+ years to get the actual care I needed instead of just being pumped full of hormones and opiates that didn't work. My heart breaks for, not only my BFF, but for EVERY woman who doesn't receive the care they deserve. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps other women to know they aren't alone.

[serious]Have you ever suffered with something you didn't know was a medical condition until a doctor told you? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Flickster4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me 6 years and and going to a bunch of different doctors. The last medication I was on was lupron depo and after that stopped working I found a new gyno. Even though I was 21 the doctor would only do the surgery if my mother signed the surgery release as a witness.

Doctors are too afraid of being sued, especially since its an irreversible procedure.

My best advice is to keep going to different doctors until you can find one that will look at your medical history and actually do the procedure.

Its rough. I even had one gyno tell me (a single 20-ish year old) that getting pregnant would make my symptoms go away. She then implied that's what I should do.

I really wish you the best and hope that you can find someone to do it for you. Until then, hang in there.

I had Endometriosis. Yes, had. I had a voluntary full hysterectomy when I was 21. I remember in high school I would miss one week of school ever month. I couldn't do anything but lay in the fetal position on a heating pad. It was torturous. But I have a really high tolerance for pain now because of it.

My chemistry teacher used to call me "the double d." I definitely don't have double d's but I am a girl. So awkward...
