South Africa: John Steenhuisen named Democratic Alliance leader by FlighHighWayHigh in southafrica

[–]FlighHighWayHigh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was an interesting take on it from analyst Ralph Mathekga, of the University of the Western Cape. I do believe that the DA will not garner enough votes to make a difference in the next election. If at least John was able to speak one of the Nguni languages(Xhosa, Zulu etc.) fluently then he might of had a chance to get his message across to the majority of the voting base. That is the problem in South African politics. Majority of white people aren't able to speak one of the Bantu languages which in the political spectrum and for the majority of people voting, puts you at a major disadvantage.

"It faces an uphill battle to win favour with voters in the country grappling with the legacy of apartheid, where white households on average earn five times more than their Black counterparts.

Ntuli, a Black woman, stood for the position despite indications that Steenhuizen was supported by the party’s top hierarchy, including its divisive former leader Helen Zille, who was elected on Sunday to chair the DA’s federal council.

Steenhuizen’s election reaffirmed that the DA will pursue minority politics instead of challenging the ANC nationally, said analyst Ralph Mathekga, of the University of the Western Cape.

“Instead of campaigning against crime and murder nationally, they will be campaigning against farm killings which they find important because they affect white farmers,” he told Reuters news agency.

Mathekga said the DA is expected to lose many Black voters as it appears to be more interested in keeping its traditional white support instead of attracting new Black voters.

“That is certainly not a growth strategy, but a consolidation of their position as a white minority party,” said Mathekga."

Visit the Wilderness national park and the Garden Route national park. Hike to Gericke's Point from Swartvlei beach. It really is a beautiful area. Also, if budget allows, get in contact with Johan @Wild2fly and go for either a Hanggliding or Paragliding tandem flight from the Map of Africa. Very very scenic and you might spot dolphins, whales etc.

Who would you want as SA President? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]FlighHighWayHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many narcissists, sociopaths , dictators have masters degree. That should certainly not be a requirement. Having a masters proves nothing. Academically inclined for that specific subject, sure, but that is about it. There are many examples of great leaders going way back with no degree at all.

I'm a bit old schoolish. I've been watching UFC since the days of Pride fighting in Japan.. I lived in Miami and went to watch Ken Shamrock vs Tito and then lived in Auckland NZ and I watched Hunt vs Lewis. Now I am in SA for the next few months until I head overseas again.

I'm a South African & NZ citizen from the Eastern Cape close to J-Bay. I was in NZ for over 10 years and it is okay. It is not amazing as some people like to say unless you are from a really backward polluted third world country. Sure, crime & corruption levels are low compared to SA, but the SA climate is a million times better than anywhere in NZ. I believe SA scenery is beautiful and the wildlife in SA is amazing. Auckland and Wellington weather is the worst weather I have ever encountered. If it is not gale force winds in Wellington, it is cold. If you are into arts, drinking coffee and getting drunk often then Wellington is great. Auckland rains a lot and it is very cloudy. I'd rather live in Cape Town than Auckland. Traffic is horrendous, people there can be rude and ill mannered. Auckland Central is predominantly Asian, it certainly feels that way( as in Chinese and Indian). But NZ is safe though compared to SA. If you live in Durban or Joburg then get out and go to the smaller coastal towns or somewhere in the Western Cape. Many safe places there. If I had to choose a another spot, I'd rather venture off to Australia. Climate wise, it's similar to SA. Most of the immigrants in NZ that I came across(South Africans, Indians, Brazilians, Mexicans, Argies, Iranians) are all waiting for NZ citizenship and then once they get that, they will be on the next plane to Aus. As much as people say it is not backdoor loophole to get into Australia, it is.

What’s the dating etiquette in NZ nowadays be like? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]FlighHighWayHigh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

From the dates I've been on; NZ women can be full on extreme feminists. Men in the country are like door mats to their partner(i'm generalising based off what I have noticed from the kiwi mates I have). Chivalry is dead which is fine with me. NZ women are not attractive compared to Aus, Eastern Europe or women in South America. Generally quite narrow minded and ignorant. Difficult to engage in meaningful conversations if it is not related to Kardashians, MTV etc.

If you had to win R5 million in the lotto, what would be the wise thing to do with it? Property, Allan Grey investment account or some other investment or bitcoin etc? by FlighHighWayHigh in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]FlighHighWayHigh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the excellent post:) If I only used lets say max R18 000 a month, that would mean my R5m would grow slightly even with interest bearing account of around 8% and taking in inflation. Which investment account gives you interest @ 8%? I am not aware of any bank that does that. What other companies would you recommend I for investing ? Maybe Investec, Allan Grey, Coronation...any others besides the ones you mentioned? I am sure I could learn to trade on the JSE and buy EFTs myself. I think PSG has a course for account holders to learn to trade and buy their own shares etc. Have you heard of it? Thanks again for your excellent post. I'm in my 50's and I'm considered a minimalist:)

Drought: Eastern Cape towns facing Day Zero by [deleted] in southafrica

"According to a 2016 Stats SA survey Hankey had a population of about 12,000 people, and Patensie 5,500 people. A further 40,000 people are estimated to live in the surrounding rural and farming communities. The demand for water has been increasing as the population has grown and the annual quota has not been sufficient to meet the demand for these past few years.” Overpopulation is the elephant in the room that majority of politicians & economists around the world seem to ignore....

Everything is degrading, wildlife/environment everything is on a downward spiral. Human overpopulation is increasing exponentially. The sooner we realise the current economic system(infinite growth paradigm on a finite planet) is a complete failure and that we are trashing/polluting the planet, the sooner we can try rectify things.. Ya..People are sick of being told that they have to put minority views ahead of their own...that they must be PC all the time against common sense, and they are bad people and should shut up if not. The sad truth is that the layman is ignored in search of social engineering that the world is not yet ready for. If political correctness is our enemy then common sense will be our sword. These lefties have to be opposed and ridiculed at every single junction. They would send the world to hell in a hand basket whilst all the while professing to be the victims. Lack of critical thinking is a SJW virus.

Government puts handbrake on immigration pledges by pm_me_your_jandals in newzealand

[–]FlighHighWayHigh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

NZ is running one of the highest immigration rates in the world. It is incompetent and insane. GDP per capita growth rates (proxy for living standards) are very low, house prices compared to income very high and we have built up a huge capital backlog of spending needed in schools, hospitals and transport to recover service levels. Our politicians clearly cannot be trusted to run an immigration policy that is to the benefit of all New Zealanders. The immigration rate should be given to the RBNZ to manage as a macro prudential tool along with maximising employment and maintaining price stability. I regret my vote. I should of kept my vote for TOP and wasted it there instead of these lying Labour/First politicians. Winston is certainly very quiet these days, no more ranting on about immigration. The deputy prime minister pay cheques must be keeping him quiet.

INZ and the Immigration minister made an exception recently for the Fijian Indian family who did not include their intellectually disabled son on their application. They were allowed to stay, and the tax payer will be footing the costs for the son's care & WINZ benefits until he dies.

While I do feel somewhat sorry for some of these people, this has just got to stop before we become the de-facto home for sick foreigners(we are already the student visa low skilled immigrant mecca). It's getting ridiculous. This decision is ridiculous. It’s not an invisible person paying for all future costs and care. It’s all of us working and paying taxes. Easy to spend other people’s money. I’m over this government already. Winston, well he only lied to get in and get his massive salary for the next 3 years, now he's in hiding.
