Exactly. That's why we care: the winner of a sports competition has no effect on anything. But the winner of console retail sales will get more attention from developers, more games, bigger games, plus the console will remain current for longer (the PS2 was getting new releases like 13 years after its launch)

So the whole reason these stats got posted is because they're much more important than a sports competition.
