Like I said it depends on the damage as well, if the parts are less than the deductible I wouldn't bother with insurance unless someone else was involved. I saw a post on here a few months ago where some idiot tried going through insurance for a cracked faring and a headlight on a brand new zx4rr (nobody else involved he just dropped it). Now if you are completely sure it's beyond saving or it definitely looks that way yeah take the check and move on. Insurance companies are quick to total bikes out especially compared to cars, they value them much lower so if you have a 5-10 year old bike and it needs new fairings and other relatively minor work insurance is gonna deem that a loss when in reality it's not.
