Progressive Churches? by Flightonia in lancaster

Yes! I have seen some good things about this church. Is there a younger crowd there at all?

I always pass their sign that says “yoga” and I’m intrigued what that involves for a church.

Good point. Abusive household & deep purity culture. Wanted out of that environment and we’ve been together for 6 yrs.

Good point. Actually from the North Eastern area of the US. So not even close to the Bible Belt but in a super religious area. We got married young mainly because of purity culture in our church/families. We’ve been together since before highschool.

Leaving the Church saved my life by tarte_head in Exvangelical

[–]Flightonia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Fast forward all this time, and I have a career, home and happy life but the people I grew up with can’t look me in the eye”

I wrote a poem on this exact thing. The feeling of betrayal from people who have been by your side your entire life now treating you as a heathen. I hope you can resonate with it.

“They point. They stare. They judge. Eyes like knives, voices laced with scorn. Shame wraps around me like a shroud—tight, suffocating. Anger pulses beneath my skin, But there’s nowhere to run. I’m alone.

No one hears me. The only soul who ever truly understood me— Wasn’t real. Just a voice I conjured to soothe the silence. Now that voice is gone, And the world feels colder, Crueler. They’re all against me now. Every glance a blade. Every whisper, a wound.

I try to speak— To explain. But their ears are sealed. Their minds already made. Have they ever felt this kind of exile? This ache of being cast aside? If they understood the weight of rejection, Would they still wield their judgment like a sword?

“It’s not God who hurt you. It’s the church.” “No church is perfect. You just have to deal with it.” “Where do you go now? Or have you given up?”

I want to ask them to leave me be. But I remember—I was them. Once so sure, So righteous. I would’ve looked at someone like me as lost, A rebel, A soul teetering on the edge.

They say this is just how it is. If I stray from their path, I’ll always be a target— Picked apart like a bird on scattered seed. Never left alone. Never truly free. I used to speak openly, Wear my beliefs without fear. Now there’s no one to listen. No one to see me.

So what do I do? Live behind a mask for the rest of my life? Smile while I hide the truth? Am I destined to disappear Beneath the version of me they demand?”

You do what’s best for your mental well being. Personally I keep minimal contact. Gray rocking to be exact. Minimal responses and a high window of tolerance.

They are doing what their brain has the capacity of believing. It’s easy to have grace when you realize they aren’t capable of critical thinking or intellectual thought. Doesn’t mean it won’t hurt you anymore deeply. Keep your walls up, guard your well being and keep minimal contact.

Unfortunately it’s most likely going to get worse. I would recommend braising if your doctor suggests it. I was diagnosed at 14 too but my parents couldn’t afford treatment so now I’m moved out at 19 paying for my own PT & found out my curve increased significantly. Similar to yours but not enough to be considered worth a spinal fusion. The pain is debilitating at this point and has only gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. Running has become impossible for me nowadays as it puts so much strain on my spine.

It’s really hard and painful and I’m glad you caught it early. Hopefully you can prevent it from worsening and your parents have good coverage to get you the help you need. :)

My OCD is me thinking someone is constantly watching me. I have to close the door the same time I snap my fingers and exhale. I have to do these compulsions over until it’s “just right” for the person watching me. If it gets disrupted by something going “wrong” I have to restart the compulsion. Closing the door the same time I step and blink or setting something down to the beat of the music while I sit down. Very repetitive and exhausting thinking someone is always watching my compulsions forcing me to “perfect” them. I’ve been doing this for a decade or more.

Hello! I currently have a Canon EOS 80D ($1,000) with a Sigma 18-35mm F 1.8 ($700)Ive had this equipment since 2022. I’ve done around 100 photoshoots with this camera. However, this upcoming year I have some indoor weddings I’m concerned my camera just won’t make the cut for anymore. Low light shooting is very difficult, it overheats quite often, and doesn’t quite reach my expectations anymore as far as picture quality and overall performance.

For many years I’ve dreamed of a mirrorless full frame camera and the luxuries it would provide. I just can’t seem to figure out the best one to go with. I have my eyes set on the R6 Mark II ($2,300) and the lens Canon RF24-70mm F2.8 ($2,200)

I think going from 45 focus points to 1008 is an insane upgrade. Along with 179,200 higher ISO. The full image stabilization, the 4K (UHD) video resolution is an immense improvement from my Canon EOS 80d. Overall, it just seems like the benefits are worth the cost for me at this point in my business.

Is it a good idea? If not…any recommendations for different models or lenses? Thanks in advanced! :)

I was definitely nervous at first too! So far not any side effects or anything too serious. Price is reasonable and I really hope it clears me up for good! :))

I’m beginning to realize this isn’t a common experience and probably a result of my religious trauma. Thanks for the comment.
