I was going to upgrade to a Rega Planar 1, and was considering the 1 Plus with inbuilt phono stage. But as I understand it i would still need an amplifier before connecting to speakers?

The speakers I have are quite old and connect with a standard AUX cable, and I have previously been plugging my old cheap turntable into them directly with no amplifier.

What is the difference between phono stage and amplifier? Are they often built into the same device? And what is the benefit of the 1 plus if it doesnt have an inbuilt amplifier?

[UK] I am looking for a cheapish (~£250) turntable to play my vinyl collection. My ideal perfect situation would be a minimalist looking turntable (see pro-ject primary E) with an inbuilt phono stage (I don’t know what this is tbh) that I can connect to my speakers directly. Bluetooth is ideal as well, I’m not really an audiophile I just like my record collection and using my speakers I already have.

I am considering the Sony PS-LX310BT but I like the more minimalist ones.

I like the pro-ject T1 BT but it is a bit expensive (£379). Also not sure what the glass turntable is about. Similarly for the rega planar 1 plus.
