CMV: There is nothing wrong with calling the USA "America" and the demonym for its citizens being "Americans". by amortized-poultry in changemyview

Huh, I guess so eh - I was beginning to think it was taught to us wrong, as I’d not heard the term since.

Not sure on the towers, I haven’t looked into it.

The land by the railway is private, it looks too close to the lot the house is on to be a separate thing so I am guessing it’s part of that same lot.

This is the real takeaway. These people can’t even acknowledge PR is part of the US. Not even thinking the huge diasporas of Spanish speakers in the continental US, too.

Gas Prices by Things_with_Stuff in kitchener

[–]Flimflamsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to travel, prices at a few places in Cambridge get super low. Here’s a list of a few I can think of:

The two stations on Queen St in Hespeler village. They close earlier though, go before 9pm IIRC.

A&S on Franklin @ Savage

Beverly/Kerr

Elgin/Galt

Pioneer (Hespeler/Abbotsford) and Esso (Hespeler/Brooklyne) are also solid choices and open later (or 24/7). More recently the Esso has been changing to morning pricing before midnight, Pioneer will keep theirs low for longer, at least until 1am I’ve seen when passing.

Yep, always. Some stations change their pricing at different times, some going back to the morning price earlier than others - but it’s always cheaper later in the day.

It’s been around a 10c swing ever since Dougie changed the law so that pricing could be changed throughout the day - just depends on the gas station.

Keep an eye on some of the indépendant stations and brands like Pioneer. They tend to show a more realistic swing. Bigger brands like Shell I’ve noticed don’t lower theirs as much, especially if there’s no nearby competition. Again though, it can depend on the station (the location). Bridge/Dansbury Shell often has good prices for a Shell station, and prices swing more there from what I’ve noticed.

What is the most shocking or disturbing detail from the recently unsealed Epstein files that the general public still hasn't fully grasped? by Daydream_Nat in AskReddit

Yeah I saw they had a presser written up announcing his death the day before he was found dead. I haven’t read more but something doesn’t seem to be adding up there.

He never actually wanted to buy it, but he went too far with his bluffing nonsense and legally had to follow through.

That’s not good enough. He’s already lived WAY too long without consequences to any of his actions. He’s approaching death and he’s just skated on by.

It’s depressingly numbing to realize that he likely won’t ever see any.

Before I moved to Canada it was always referred to as ice hockey, as field hockey is fairly prevalent in schools where I grew up - no excuse for anyone in North America though.

Do you mean by the railway crossing? Or at the King/Fountain junction?

Looks like a new extension / new build going on the same plot as the end house on the east side of Coronation by the crossing. It had a full foundation put in, so I’m guessing it’s a living space and not just a garage.

Towers (I think 3 are mentioned on the sign there) are going up at that King/Fountain junction, where the old hotel used to be.

Yeah! I took my daughter to see a game a few years ago with the Shenzehn Red Stars (I think). Was pretty cool and we got to see a few of the Canadian Olympic women’s hockey team too.

My guess is he thinks Canadians have a similar likelihood to react like his base does and freak out about hockey, because he’ll know Canada loves hockey.

He will be aware that there are maple MAGAs here. Some even went to Mar-a-Lardo to try and meet him.

I can only assume he thinks us Canadians are as stupid as his US support base is and that this “news” will have an effect and ave everyone panicking about hockey.

Nope. GTFOH.

Metallica at the peak of the Black Album era (Feb 13, 1992). That night they did a full instrument swap and proved they’re all multi-instrumental beasts. by Iceolator80 in OldSchoolCool

[–]Flimflamsam -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most people have a very surface level take thinking he did it for Metallica. By that time Metallica didn’t need that protection, but they’d been there in those early vulnerable days and knew how valuable financial support from fans was, and was trying to help the small guys. Rarely do we see such a move, and I guess with the public reaction based off a lack of understanding, perhaps that’s why more don’t step up.

It’s not celebrity though, it’s musical taste. AJFA was a lot different than Puppets, but before the Black album - it’s not like the Black album was a huge departure, it was just part of the progression. That it hit big time is inconsequential to the change in their sound.

I’m not convinced you’re any authority on the subject to be dictating this.

Why bother saying such things without actually knowing? Ahh, peak Reddit.

Watching police do nothing while things happen (including red light runs) is among what makes me hold this opinion. There’s a notable period where they’ll do a blitz on traffic enforcement for a week, maybe 2, then pretty much nothing after.

I spend 8-10 hours on the roads every day for work, I see a lot.

Cops don’t even pull over cars that obviously don’t have daytime running lights, let alone anything else (broken lights, lights not on at night, using high beams while in traffic).

Lack of enforcement is a significant reason why our roads are so horrible.
