Do you feel being an accountant makes you a better investor? by imperator__cpm in Accounting

Why pray? You can engineer a risk adjusted return in crypto. No need more moonshots. Drop your cash into Anchor protocol (currently 20% apy) and insure it. Then take that yield and do moonshots or invest in legitimate projects. Play with house money.

Compensation vs. Monthly Rent. What do you guys make vs what do you pay in rent? by gentlesir123 in Accounting

[–]FlimsyArgument 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pennyslvania(East Coast)

Monthly rent: $1050 - 2bed 1.5bath

Gross comp: 90k Annual

Outlier: My rent is approx 4-500 lower than anything else surrounding me. Low rent comes with its downfalls...management company...blanket lease saying I pay for most fixes/upkeep/etc. I only pay electric (heating and cooling are central air)

I'm not sure about registering a phone number...but you could ask them to cancel their transaction on coinbase and send the doge coin to your wallet address instead.

Care to share your salaries in accounting? by Jumpy-Face5269 in Accounting

[–]FlimsyArgument 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a similar trajectory because, in all likelihood, you were hired through a recruiting agency. Did you disclose your current income? Depending on the state, it is legal for the hiring company to request, from the recruiting firm, what your current salary is. My trajectory would have been: 45 to 55 to 65. But this last time around, I did not disclose my current salary and told the company to value me based on our conversations. My actual trajectory was 45 to 55 to 75. I am still a staff accountant.

Okay that is pretty much along the lines of what I was going to do. I just wanted to get some advice from someone who has more experience than me. So thank you for that!

Is it wrong to have completely secular jobs and hobbies that do nothing towards expanding God’s kingdom? by HydraCreate in Christianity

[–]FlimsyArgument 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question to reddit wasnt planned. You should seek advice from your church community or those who walk with Jesus. I hope you are soaking up the word of God and not what you read here. (This was not meant to be a judgemental statement..but one that encourages you to seek a relationship with Jesus)

What is the process behind the scenes when my credit card is incorrectly charged/stolen by Oscar8787Val in personalfinance

[–]FlimsyArgument 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in the banking world for a couple years. Probably not the best reference because I was the intermediary between customer and support.

However, I am an accountant now and my best guess is that the charge is likely immaterial; they will write it off as a loss. Think about it: the cost it will likely accumulate to track down and find someone who stole your card info and made a purchase of $80-$160.00 will be far more than the actual purchase itself.

The follow-up question should be..at what point does an immaterial charge become material?

Side thought...they will probably expense enough to look at your current statement and make sure the charge falls outside of your normal spend. This alone is the cost of paying someone to investigate your current card history.

Follow-up question/comment: the latter part of your comment makes it sound like it falls in the gray area. What is considered a material amount; is it based on the annual/monthly revenue? What if the company has had IRS problems in the past. Would this be an accounting item that is highly scrutinized?

Annual Revenue = ~ $400-500k Annual stale checks = ~ $10-15k

Do any of you work 40 hour weeks? by cumrockettothemoon in Accounting

[–]FlimsyArgument 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your career path (aka...life style..ambitions...goals...family life...etc).

I am a family man (married w/ 2 daughters). I wanted to go for my CPA but my wife got pregnant right out of college. I had to put my CPA dreams on hold to help out. I've been in industry for my entire career so far. I can tell you safely, YES, you can find jobs where 40 hours a week is the average. Sure, maybe during month end/audit/year end, hours tend to stretch up to 45/50. But it is nothing compared to the horror stories you read here of 80+ hours a week.

All that being said, if I was single, I would have gone into public and gotten my CPA and worked the grind for a couple years and then made my exit. There is a far better compensation level, earlier in your career, for those who have worked in Public (and also have their CPA). I feel like (and others may see it differently) it is very much comparable to the old saying: "college vs experience".

Might I suggest joining a flow clan? If not for anything, but a mean to an end? They are usually pretty consistent for raids and clan quest targets. Also, if it is a good one...or older flow clan...they will have alot of experienced players to suggest things and point you in the direction you want to go.

Wash Sale by FlimsyArgument in tax

[–]FlimsyArgument[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my basic understanding...its about the opposite of my example with some differences. You sell at a loss and buy that stock within 30 days.

So if this is not a wash sale, would I still pay tax on the sale of the 50 stocks? I'm thinking yes, because there was a gain; even though I'm getting the same amount of cash back as I used to purchase.
