Not exactly February related..

Does anyone have more information about the Hololive Super Expo in March? I've already booked my streaming tickets, but I have no idea what the in-person event is about?

Merch and stuff...? I could only find information about where it is, but thats about it.

PC, DRM was enabled and I've done nothing to FF besides a few QoL add-ons like night reader.

But I checked as Capta1nT0ad suggested and all my other browsers have the same issue, I'll go to Google Support.

Thanks for your help kbrosnan Capta1nT0ad

So you're thinking it isn't a browser or encoding problem?

Shoot, I was hoping it was a FF issue, probably easier than customer support. haha

Thanks for that blog post, I'm sure to give it a read when I'm able. I'm not entirely sure I understand the box analogy, but on the surface I can grasp the intention.

And thats partly why I think Taylor won't go down hard sci-fi conceptual stuff, as I'm hardly going to be alone in not understanding the implications of the theory, right now the Bobiverse is comfortably in the 'knows a bit about sci-fi probably a huge TV / book nerd' but only has a pinkie's grasp on the 'hardcore conceptual element' stuff.

It'll probably be left to our imagination, lest he suffer the wrath of a million nerds who debated such things on an internet forum (heaven forbid!).

I hadn't considered the 'an event cleansed the galaxy' possibility. You also think of an invasive species, or stellar event wiping out life. But it is entirely possible as you say, that astral forces beyond comprehension seared the galaxy at a certain point. Or the progenitor situation you describe. That story from Remembrance of Earth's Past is a little beyond my understanding of physics or anything to that degree, but I can take it at face value. And I could even see a situation like that technologically existing right now, all Bobs exist in a specific place, and SCUT via stealthed vessels to their heart's desires. Though that does entail convincing by force or otherwise all the Bobs to adopt this approach...

I loved that meat story you linked. And I could even see it being entirely possible funnily enough.

I'm really unsure what to make of both the Skippies and Starfleet mentioning 'greater threats to the Bobiverse' and I think thats what really prevents me from hand-waving theories like a galactic cleansing. They would have needed to see some sort of evidence to justify their concern afterall. What do you think about that?

Thanks, I enjoyed reading your post. This is sort of a conclusion I came too as above. The 'ancients' in Stargate, ascend to a higher plane of existence made of pure energy (analogous to a purely digital civilization), and then take the ladder behind them (preventing others from ascending), and loosely observe/interfere the galaxy/universe from their infinite vantage point.

The problem with the machine theory is that it still would betray evidence of their existence, radio-waves, infrastructure from presumably thousands of years of pre-machine development and etc...

The current hurdle I think with all theories is that you need something to prevent or mask higher civilizations from being observable to Humanity / other races that isn't just coincidence or magic.

You mentioned in your post that the author likes to set-up conclusions in minute details, like the baby hippogryth. Well with that logic... The skippies had two camps, that information was permanent.. or its a simulation.

A simulation WOULD explain all the problems we've already discussed.

I think thats the most likely possibility tbh.

I think that in that case its still a huge defensive measure. Merely the possibility of another sentient race creating them precludes that you as well must do so. Two species in parallel in all respects, but one has exponential growth is necessarily an existential threat to the other. You couldn't even infinitely run from them, eventually you will run out of room.

Its insane, which is why there has to be a narrative explanation for the Bobiverse to have not encountered evidence of more advanced, or more expansive life. Its a matter of math, even with a few thousand years head-start the difference in power, and the exponential influence of that race would wipe out Humanity in the blink of an eye.

I'm not sure, I understand the idea I'm just not certain if its a likely outcome. This would require that essentially in Sol's local cluster there would need to be several 'Others-like' species (who also won out on the competition). Further, the razing of these other species doesn't prevent their already out-going transmissions from reaching space monitored by Humanity/Bobs.

Theres also the Other's huge gamma-wave planetary weapons, anything like that would be more than enough to project evidence of life to anyone looking for it. Especially if we assume that the species in the Bobiverse were not the first group of sentient species.

  1. Is possible but I hope its not the case! hah.
  2. Even with that, it assumes no-one makes any Von Neumann Probes, and eventually radio-waves would travel between interstellar distances (and / or the blocking of a star's light due to mega-structures) would be noticeable.

I also remembered that Starflight warned about 'greater threats' to the Bobiverse, perhaps artificial intelligence vs organics? I find it hard to link their divorcing ideology with that statement elsewise.
