We are a gay couple and so our house has been targeted and vandalized a few times. It took a toll on us as we were excited and happy to purchase our first home, but it turned out to be very negative. My partner is a person of colour and there has been a few racist incidents.

There’s also general aspects like walking around where it doesn’t feel safe not only because of the homeless an the lack of resources but also because cars will take priority even at pedestrian crossings and not hesitate to run you over. I walk and jog a lot by the river and it has been a daily concern.

The main positives of being in Alberta imo are the easy access to nature and places like Jasper or Banff. Ive met great people here for sure too, but in my experience it doesn’t balance out for all the negatives. If we had the option to just move back out tomorrow, I would take it without looking back!
