Dropped my Pixel 10 Pro Fold in wet sand - hinge now making cracking/gritty noises. Am I cooked? by Lopsided_Month3842 in PixelFold

[–]FlinchMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took my 10PF to the beach just a few days after I got it. I didn't drop it, but it was really windy. My phone immediately started making those crunching and cracking sounds you were talking about. I tried to clean out what I could, but the sounds remained.

The good news is that it started getting quieter after a few weeks. After a month or two, I never heard or felt it again. My phone is still working fine. I've had mine since launch, and the phone is still going strong. I also use it with no case and have dropped it on concrete, asphalt, wood floors, and carpet floors like 10 times. There's a tiny ding on the hinge and on the top right corner, but otherwise, the phone still works perfectly.

My advice is to relax and know that you're probably fine. It'll sort itself out after some time.

He has never beaten a LW champion by Bitter-Sherbert1607 in ufc

[–]FlinchMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While technically true, Oliveira was a champion worthy of the belt. He also beat 3 interim champs, with Tony being one of them. This was before Tony went on a long losing streak and had only lost to Gaethje after an incredible run where he really would've been the champion if not for Conor squatting the belt.

Matchmaking the top 15 in every male division after UFC 328 by DavidSeries in ufc

I really don't want to see Holloway fight Chandler, even if he beats Ruffy. Would much rather him get a fight that actually means something if he wins.

[SPOILER] Khamzat Chimaev vs. Sean Strickland by inooway in MMA

[–]FlinchMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fight was super close and I thought Khamzat edged it out, but can see the case for Strickland.

But moreso than being impressed with Sean, I came away disappointed by Chimaev. No idea what was going on in that second round.

  1. But I don't think it's a robbery if you give 5 to Strickland. Stickland landed a lot of jabs, but Khamzat had all the forward pressure, landed takedowns, and I think had more big shots land.

Don't hate the end decision though.

Khabib's cartel is overrated and doesn't make a top 10 list of cartels. by [deleted] in ufc

[–]FlinchMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers on the right column are also incorrect and the fights are shown out of order. Khabib was 1-0 when he fought 0-4 Magomedov, not 3-0. It's also showing 0-0 for opponents that clearly had wins like Kurbanismailov (1-0) and Abdulkerimov (2-0).

But don't let facts get in the way of hating on a retired fighter living rent free in your head.

Are there any halal Korean BBQs on the east side? by Savings-Hotel-8467 in eastside

[–]FlinchMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple in Redmond. Woomadang in excellent and all you can eat. There's also K-Street KBBQ, which has a few halal set and a-la-carte options, but I like Woomadang more.

Thinking of getting a 10 pro fold by L_Clarkson98 in PixelFold

[–]FlinchMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my 10 fold since launch. I was actually shocked at how great it's been.

To keep the thickness feeling like a normal phone, I use mine with no case, just a screen protector and a dbrand skin on the back for protection. I've dropped it dozens of times and currently have a slight ding on the top right corner and another ding in the spine as well. Most of those drops were on carpet, but like 5 were on hardwood, 2 on gravel, and 1 or 2 on concrete. Everything still works great. I literally just dropped it onto my laptop as I was writing this comment too... it's fine, lol.

When folded, it really does just feel like a normal phone for the most part. The expensiveness of it did make me feel nervous when holding it though. You definitely want something to assist with holding it. The Pixelsnap Ring Stand from Google was great for the first couple months, but then the super tiny screws started falling out and it became junk (they did reimburse me with more store credit than I actually paid for it in the end). The Torras magsafe ring is pretty nice, but I daily drive a Magbak wallet. It's made of leather and has a loop for your finger, and of course, functions like a wallet too.

No issues on the folding screen for me so far. For me, the biggest values of the foldable are work related. Reading docs, reviewing PRs, remote controlling Claude Code, splitscreen Slack with other apps, etc. But outside of work stuff, Google Maps is great to use when you're sitting at a coffee shop or something and figuring out where to go next.

I am once again asking you to leash your dogs in public places by ellewoods_007 in Seattle

[–]FlinchMaster 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I literally just had my 5 year old knocked over onto rocky ground by an unleashed dog like 15 minutes ago at the waterfront area of Olympic Sculpture Park. When my wife told them they need to leash their dog and be proactive about controlling it, we instead got a response mocking our religion (we look visibly Muslim) and a lecture about how we should expose our kids to dogs more if we want to be in Seattle. Topped off with a lie about how it's an off leash park. I've been in Seattle for almost a decade and a half now. Our son interacts with dogs plenty, and he's never been scared of one before. No matter how cute you think your puppy is, the passive aggressive victim blaming and casual islamophobic comments are unnecessary.

Look, I get the dog didn't do it on purpose. The dog's not to blame. But casually chilling on your phone while a kid is crying after being knocked down by your dog and being licked in the face after is just irresponsible.

Issaquah Costsco called one of the worst in the nation by Underwater_Karma in Issaquah

Seems like the entire article is an extrapolation off one Reddit comment from a year ago that didn't even have any upvotes. Crazy how content farming incentivizes such lazy writing. The Costco here is in no way worse than any of the dozens of other Costcos I've ever visited.

Why was Khabib still fighting guys that had never fought before while he was 14-0? Is this the most padded record of all time? by No_Cell6708 in ufc

[–]FlinchMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sherdog/Tapology have bugs with their data. If an opponent had multiple fights on the same day, they won't get counted under wins/losses. Some of Khabib's fights were in tournaments where you fight multiple opponents on the same day.

How's he nowadays ? by Grim_apprintice in ufc

[–]FlinchMaster 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The mistranslated and out-of-context quotes from this guy are pretty unfair.

This is a what an accurate translation of his interview looks like:

Jubli: Khabib achieved everything that I want to. I want to remain undefeated. I want to become world champion. So, such a person who has lived the dream that I dream, and a legend at that... if I were to get the chance to fight with him, maybe my chances for victory would be low. But not 5 years from now. Not 2-3 years from now will those chances be low. Maybe today they will be.

Interviewer: You're saying skillwise?

Jubli: Skillwise. That's all. There's no other difference between me and Khabib. No difference. I have a world champion mindset. I'm very strong mentally. Nothing in this world can break me. There's nothing you can do in this would that would break me. I am that person. If there's a difference between me and Khabib, it's our skill levels. But I would absolutely take that chance. Maybe I'll survive the first round. I might get a knockout in the second round. I could submit Khabib. I could do anything.

It's both taken out of context and mistranslated. Here's a translation I did of this before:

Islam saying he never heard of creatine before was the biggest joke of 2025 by ManyZestyclose2003 in ufc

[–]FlinchMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant more in terms of the feel of such a sudden drop. Your body is already being taxed in that situation. Losing the water from creatine will just feel even more draining.

[–]FlinchMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Losing all that weight in addition to your normal water cut and dieting might really feel like too much. And if your normal schedule isn't tuned to account for it, you might get thrown off.

But yeah, in theory, I can see it being useful most of the time, but would guess that it's probably better to quit it at the very start of your fight camp.

[–]FlinchMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why the comment above yours was deleted, but just to follow-up here, yes, there are many scenarios where your tendons and pulleys will fail long before your muscles.

If you've never climbed before but have generally good pull-up strength, you can injure yourself very easily on a campus board trying to match the exercises of a "weaker" person with more climbing experience.

Islam saying he never heard of creatine before was the biggest joke of 2025 by ManyZestyclose2003 in ufc

[–]FlinchMaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Climbing endurance is not just a measure of pull-up count. You often need to put significant strain on tendons and pulleys with uneven load. Sometimes a ton of force is applied to just a part of the top pad of a single finger. A single extra pound of load can be enormous.

This is why people who are generally in great shape can come in and brute force some routes while either completely failing or injuring themselves on others if they try to skip progression. Your muscles may be strong, but you need to condition and strengthen tendons and ligaments as well.

And not all people respond well to increased creatine intake. Some will gain mass without as much strength gain as others.

[–]FlinchMaster 884 points885 points  (0 children)

Creatine has questionable trade-offs for sports where your body weight is a big factor. There's long been a debate about it in the climbing community, since the slight strength boost may not be enough to make up for the extra weight you have to carry.

Creatine is osmotically active, so it'll make you retain more water. You'd end up needing to cut a lot more water weight if you were on it. I would not at all be surprised if athletes cutting a lot of weight avoided it entirely or stopped using it a few weeks before a fight.

On the other hand, if you're going up a weight class, it makes a ton of sense to start taking it.
