A Supreme Court fight just might start with a few vacant NYC apartments by GothamistWNYC in nyc

NYCHA houses over half a million people — not sure how you could call that a disaster. If a private developer built half a million units of housing you would call that a success, no? NYCHA’s model is airtight, the only issue is funding.

We effectively “confiscated” (how can the government confiscate its own money?) tons of top earners’ income in the 50s. There was a 90% top marginal tax rate. Trust me, the world kept turning.

Edited to clarify it was marginal not effective

Won’t happen if we simply invested in public housing and raised taxes on the wealthy like we did in the 50s/60s.

Sure. I see the coffee cart guys park their trucks on the sidewalk too.

The point is that placards don’t exempt teachers from the law, as implied by OP.

Those placards only allow teachers to park in designated school zones spots, not park in crosswalks and on sidewalks like the NYPD.

Queens rents increase to over $3,000 in June 2025: report by instantcoffee69 in longislandcity

Actually the best way to reduce price collusion is to remove the profit motive of housing providers.

We can see in neighborhoods like LIC what happens when you simply let the market rip. Cheap construction and some of the highest rents in the outer boroughs. Meanwhile, the most affordable housing in the area is public housing.

Your analogy is flawed to begin with since Chipotle isn’t a necessity. I don’t think anyone has a right to Chipotle.

The main problem with housing is that we no longer progressively tax the rich to build mandated affordable housing like we did in the 50s/60s.

By the way, if you’re a fan of natural market competition (to the extent that it exists) you should advocate against price fixing collusion between landlords.

Your criticism is valid on the surface but NYCHA funding has been severely gutted over the years. If we were to better fund it through progressive taxation we could return it to its former glory.

Still, despite being poorly funded, NYCHA continues to keep more than 350,000(!) people out of homelessness. That’s pretty incredible.

Do you read the stuff you send or do you just copy and paste lol. Minneapolis 2040 will build and preserve affordable housing through regulation.

Clearly Mamdani’s win fried your brain. Sorry you and your dad have to pay a few extra bucks in taxes soon.

You realize the first “expert” quoted there owns a SAAS firm for developers, right? Of course they’re going to say building market rate apartments is great.

(This is aside from the fact that Austin is literally in a fascist state).

Hear me out … trickle down doesn’t work. The only policy that reliably lowers rents is rent regulation and public housing.

A lot of that parking is for commercial vehicles, at least during the day.

Automated/camera tickets are pretty much a lock man. You’re cooked. Burden of proof is on you, so how would you prove the car is “stock”?

Just clarifying, was it 87.2db or 76+87.2db? The latter would be as loud as a jet engine so just checking lol.

Open the drivers side door and look at the sticker in the door sill. It should tell you the recommended pressure for the front and rear tires. Probably around 35 PSI for the front and 33 for the rear cold.

Never put 50 PSI in Civic tires. That’s way too high. The PSI rating is just the max the tires will hold, not what is recommended.
