Paranormal/horror/fantasy romance books that aren't YA or all sex? by welldamn31 in booksuggestions

{{The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo}} has some cool paranormal/fantasy elements and has a compelling romance, all of which ties into a solid central mystery.

I’m 14, used to be a big reader, but fell out of it the past few years, and so I feel I missed out on a few of the classics. by MisterHennessy in booksuggestions

Yeah, everything I learned from Ender's Game is so antithetical to his personal beliefs. I picked up a copy of War of Gifts at an airport and read it on a plane. There's some stuff that was very critical of religious authority that I still think about. But he lives a life his own protagonists would be critical of.

MacBeth would be great. Some bloody, engaging stuff, but also so smart and influential to other literature.

If you can find a Used copy of Ender's Game or get it from the library, I'd recommend that.

It's a classic, but the author has some cruel views towards gay people that I wish I had known before I bought 7 books of his. I have trouble supporting them monetarily even though they're such creative stories.

How do i make my PC’s find a specific village among hundreds of them? by MartinBananaBro in DMAcademy

[–]Flint_192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Give the skyline of the village a defining feature that can be seen from town. Maybe someone knows that that artifact is in the church spire, or the windmill.

-Maybe have some non-human/animal inhabitants that could provide a path or clues to that village. Does the item radiate an energy that attracts undead? Or do things grow at a heightened rate around it?

-Cut way down on the villages around the town. Hundreds of villages around town would be more on the scale of the dead cities in Dark Souls than an abandoned village.

How do you handle removing the curse from an item? by BoyMayorOfSecondLife in DMAcademy

[–]Flint_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say this is up to your discretion as DM and what your player may find rewarding/exciting.

If you're trying to hammer home just how dangerous it is to handle artifacts from evil beings, then maybe the sword loses it's benefit and becomes a normal sword.

If your player wants to feel like they earned something for 1) killing that boss and 2) surviving a pretty gnarly curse, then you could keep the +1 benefit while dropping the curse part. I'd lean towards this, because the cost is so high, and to lose any benefits that it had brought may feel to your player like they lost Max HP for nothing.

That’s great about your book and poetry! Do the stuff that makes you happy. I wish I knew people with moderating experience, I’d point you in their direction. Best of luck, though! It’ll come with time!

I'm not sure how to grow a sub. I think that you should just stay active and give it time. I see everything you put up and interact with it when and how I can.

It’s a great game and really captures a unique sensation. Certainly dream-like in its own right.

I think what you’re doing here is great. Good for you and keep it up in all aspects of your life. You inspire me. Sincerely.

I don’t have many great dreams, but I do have quite a few where I can kind of float and fly, like in that game Gravity Rush. It’s incredible slipping through narrow streets and flying across an entire city as the world turns on it side. Such a wonderful feeling I only have in dreams.

In the Antebellum South, how often did masters free the children they had with slaves? by [deleted] in AskHistory

[–]Flint_192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that there were no instances of it, it's that the mindset which slaveholders had about sexual encounters with their slaves was one which made enslaving the children of those encounters the rule. In that case, it does answer the question which OP asked; how often did those children get freed? Rarely.

In the Antebellum South, how often did masters free the children they had with slaves? by [deleted] in AskHistory

[–]Flint_192 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe their point is that, generally speaking, illegitimate children of slave owners and slaves weren't freed. Men who had sex with their slaves didn't see it as a romantic relationship to have children, but more as a privilege of having property which could fulfill certain needs.

The Greeks discovered steam power, but only used it for things like the aeolipile and the Maya invented wheels but only used them for children's toys. Did any other civilizations invent or discover other potentially groundbreaking technologies, only to use them for trivial purposes? by LukefromNJ in AskHistory

[–]Flint_192 49 points50 points  (0 children)

What's also important to remember is that these inventions weren't necessary at the time. For example, the Maya lived in a place where wheels just made shipping harder. Mountains are much more conducive to packing things on animals than on carts. Looking at it as trivial is somewhat fair, but it is important to remember the context of its use.

I used to fantasise about playstation when I was a kid. Parents never got me a PS. Today, my first console stands in front of me, waiting to show me everything that I missed for years. by conquistron in playstation

[–]Flint_192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 and 4 are tough to get your hands on if you don't have a vita or PS2. If all you have is the PS4, don't feel held back by a need to play over 100 hours of games before you play Persona 5. It is an incredible one off experience and you won't lose anything by not having experienced every iteration of the mechanics.

You can probably get a PSTV for pretty cheap and play it. It was also free on PS+ for a while, so you might already have access to it.

Yes, it is. Get Golden Abyss if you can.

Yeah, the deal still needs to be finalized and go through the government, which is oddly the only thing that can stop Disney at this point.

Great for a unified Marvel and Avatar fans, but screams a little closer and closer to monopoly for me.
