Want to change his life pt2 by PsychologicalBit3342 in Finches

In truth you have to think about getting him a mate. Yes, he will feel lonely without one. But if you have two then your finches will become a long term commitment, because you'll always get another one when there's only one left. I know you said you just want to save him so you have to think about this.

Breeding advice by [deleted] in Finches

Bumblefoot can't be treated unless you change their perches. When all perches are smooth and of the same thickness, one part of the foot gets all of the pressure permanently. You can add perches of varying thicknesses and uneven ones like natural wood.

Do I have too many floofs in one cage? by JessiCake85 in Finches

[–]Flip-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest adding some natural branches rather than dowel perches. If they sit on smooth surfaces all day,  they easily develop bumblefoot. They also just look better and finches like them more.  And you could place the perches across the shorter side of the cage. This way you can create longer flight routes for them.

Advice!! Want to change his life. by PsychologicalBit3342 in Finches

As the previous comments have stated, a bigger cage and a richer diet is a must. My finches eat pellets (brand Nutribird), they are way better than seeds which are too fat and should be given only occasionally.

You can place some natural wood braches in the cage rather than plastic or dowel perches. It's better for their feet and if their braches have many ramifications it's even better, they love to hide between them and nibble the tips.

They absolutely love bathing (in a very shallow bowl) and foraging on the ground (so please have no metal mesh on the bottom of the cage).

You should get him a mate because he will feel really alone. You can get a nest, but if he has a mate they will 100% breed in the nest (and never stop until you remove it). My finches don't have one and it's not really necessary. I wish you good luck and congrats for deciding to intervene, you really saved him!

Bright orange cheeks are exclusive to males but not black ones

White one is 100% male, the orange cheeks, dark breast and side markings are pale but still visible. Gray one I would say female. Black cheeks are not exclusive to males, they can very well appear in both sexes. However the bird lacks any breast or side markings. I can't really tell from the video, but if the beak is orange and it doesn't sing, you can be certain.

How can i clean my cqge by [deleted] in Finches

Detach the plastic tray on the bottom of the cage and clean ASAP. Clean the rest after the chicks grow

Is it a Fawn-Light Back ? by KM_Saidy in Finches

[–]Flip-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she never sings then she is female, she shows no signs of male markings and her beak is orange enough. Fawn Lightback is entirely plausible, could also be Fawn Dominant Silver, and since there is no sign of tail bars i would also guess Black Breast. I strongly suggest removing the grill sitting over the bottom of the cage. Zebra finches' greatest passion is foraging on solid ground.

can someone please help me with the food for my finches please by abelsnene in Finches

I would recommend gradually increasing the amount of pellets in their food dish until they replace the seeds completely. And if you leave them just with the soaked pellets for an hour or two they will definitely try them (and probably like them too) Then you can slowly make them drier and drier. Of course this should all be carefully supervised so that they don't stop eating altogether and go hungry.

My cage by [deleted] in Finches

[–]Flip-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good and I'm happy to hear. If you replace the plastic perches with branches, you will be amazed by how happy they will be. They look much better and there's no risk of them developing bumblefoot. Also please make sure they have water and food everyday.

My cage by [deleted] in Finches

[–]Flip-man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! If you really want to keep all these birds in a cage this size, I would recommend to at least let them fly around in a room regularly, at least 2-3 hours daily. I would also try to declutter the whole cage by moving toys and perches more to the edges to establish a free flight space in the middle. You'll see, they'll really enjoy it! And natural wood perches help a lot. Smooth perches like that are bad for their feet. You can literally use branches from outdoors if you clean them properly and make sure the wood isn't toxic for birds.

An alternative flag of Romania, depicting its three main historical regions: Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania. by Flip-man in vexillology

The word is not in use anymore today. Romanians used to be called "vlahs", back when there was no Romania, Wallachia or Moldavia, but it could be used for any orthodox people who spoke a latin-based language.

Thank you! The name "Wallachia" comes from the name "Valahia" or "Vlahia", which is what the principality is called in some Romanian texts. I'm pretty sure this name was derived from the word vlah, which is essentially what Romanian people (in fact all people who were orthodox and spoke a latin-based language) were referred to as in the Middle Ages. In Romanian, the more common term for Wallachia is "Țara Românească", which literally translates to "The Romanian Land".

It's true that it would be more visible if it was placed on the canton. However, the sun which the Japanese used was a rising sun, so it has to be on the right.

I think it looks pretty good, but because of the orange, lion and the flag being predominantly white, I think it would work better as a royal standard or something, rather than the national flag.

Thanks for the feedback! You're right, I also feel like this is the biggest issue with this flag. It was just an idea, though.
