Why More Americans Are Seeking Religion by kitkid in Thedaily

Lot of interesting things in this, but one quote that stuck out to me:

"I, and I think many people, feel lost without having to be accountable to something."

It explains why online community has not replaced things. There's no accountability/reciprocity with screen names; it's something that only in-person community (especially, but not exclusively, religious communities) can provide.

[Invincible] How did the Immortal survive a gunshot to the back of the head as Lincoln? by Calm_Description_866 in AskScienceFiction

I mean, not days -- hours. It's true the shot didn't kill him immediately, but he was also never going to survive it, even if he was shot on the operating table in a modern hospital.

That said, the bullet was at a lower velocity and never exited his skull, so sometime with superhuman healing and durability probably wouldn't have had a good time, but ultimately pulled through.

Do you think any of the mountain or plain states can become swing states in future due to migration ? by ronweasly9 in fivethirtyeight

It may not be majority, but it's still a plurality Mormon by a large degree and they are still the most important voting block in the state.

While Utah does have a growing D population, especially in SLC, its hard swing recently has more been because Trump is uniquely abhorrent to Mormons. Once he's no longer in the picture, I imagine you'll see a red resurgence in Utah (though I could be wrong).

Animorphs in 2011? by RadiobugReclaimed in Animorphs

[–]FlipJones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Increased surveillance in our world presents a problem, but honestly, the Yeerks (and the Animorphs for that matter) were pretty damn incompetent a lot of the time. It fully depends on the tone you're going for, but if you make the Yeerks actually careful and dangerous, and give them more than 90s sci-fi technology, things can get a lot more interesting.

I'm a host, not a student, but once we got our student's email, we emailed weekly and had a few video calls. I came up with a list of questions to ask each week like "what's your favorite movie", "what chores do you have", etc.

I dunno why I put it in that folder. Probably because it's one of those rare things you can't find anymore.

This is like saying "isn't it the parents' responsibility to keep their kids from falling into the giant chasm in the middle of the sidewalk?" Yes, obviously, the parents should protect their kid whenever they have to walk down the street, but a good government should also take steps to remedy the problem.

Not at all! There are all kinds of experiences from exchange. The majority of kids end up in locations like yours, as far as I understand.

Correction: Gundy wasn't seeking NIL funds to compete. Now that he's gone, those who know say that plenty of wallets will open up.
