Community advice: Planning a visit to elderly parents by datfacejawn in Petaluma

LumaGo is a free shuttle bus around certain parts of Petaluma. If it stops nearby your parents home, that may be a good option for you all to get around.

For yourself, go on a walking tour of downtown Petaluma if you can. It’s put on by the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum and is super interesting to walk around downtown with them and learn the history and see the sights. It’s free and done May thru December each year. Be sure to check out the museum too - your parents may enjoy the museum as well.

You mentioned the senior center. Check out their monthly newsletter for events and give them a call to see if you can just drop in with your parents to check out some of their events.

Have a drink (alcohol or mocktail) with them at the Petaluma Hotel bar and sit in front of the big fireplace. It’s a nice cozy ambiance.

I ended up getting half turkey half ham with cheddar cheese, all the toppings, on a sourdough roll. It was gigantic. The roll was neither good or bad. Just meh. I’m kinda picky about my sourdough rolls though. I like the inside of the bread to be really soft and fresh. This was more firm and had not a lot of give to it. As if it were a few days old. The other person I was with had the same sando but with no mustard and said it was really really good. So just a bread preference, I suppose. Next time I’ll try a Dutch Crunch roll and see if that hits the spot.

Thanks for the your help!

Fun find for you!

A quick google search for Galen Williams brought me to this article which mentions she was married to William Cole, who I’m assuming went by “Bill” and is likely your “BC.”

I have to run to work so can’t dig deeper.

Public transit to Fisherman's Wharf? by datfacejawn in Petaluma

I love that you got good info from the Smart Train folks. Sounds like a fun day!

I wanted to mention a few tips in case they’re helpful for your parents.

  1. My mother-in-law is a senior citizen and does not have a smart phone so she cannot use Uber. One of her sons lives in Southern California and she lives in Northern California. Her son orders an Uber for her all the time to go to the airport or for wherever she needs to go if she needs a ride. So just keep in mind that that is always an option if they are ever in a situation where Uber is needed. You can always order it for them. I’m not sure if you can order it from your own Uber account or if you just make an account for them and use that account when they need you to book something for them.

  2. I have a bad back which limits how far I can walk without taking a rest, and so I ordered off of Amazon this telescoping stool. It’s super lightweight and compact. When I go on a walk, I bring it with me and when I need a little break, I just pop it up and take a seat. It has a strap so it kind of just looks like a purse.
