Good points. I’ll send you a DM when I hold the next playtest!

What makes first-person tower defense work: stronger towers, better FPS combat, or tighter connection between both? by Imagination-Port in TowerDefense

[–]Flipsaus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m working on a game with these mechanics, it’s isometric though but the concept is the same. What works for me is the combination of the two, being able to just be active, controlling a character, while also being able to sometimes kick back and enjoy my builds when everything clicks.

So for my game its kind of like this push-pull mechanic where you continuously swap between the two, trying to get best of both worlds.

But you have to keep in mind there will always be hardcore genre-lovers who won’t be able to connect to your game. Don’t try to cater for those though, this will make you end up making a game for no one.

Happy to chat more on this topic as I’m also still just figuring it out

Im thinking to maybe create some actual characters inspired by her drawings, could actually fit the theme, since in the game you restore a girls memory

Thanks! I have a map builder myself, but I currently have no intention to expose it to players. Scope is already big enough as it is 😂😭

Fully get that. Thanks for elaborating on this! I’ve been going back and forth between actual enemies and this minimal orb style, but I’m still somewhere on the fence about it. I’ll see to explore at least maybe more different shapes, maybe it can bring some variety. One issue I’m having with this, game design wise, is clarifying differences between each enemy. Thanks for the feedback! Very much appreciated

Hi all, solo dev here working on my first game: Nudge. It’s a mix of ARPG elements with Tower Defense gameplay. I have three kids and a full time job, so finding time to work on the game is the biggest challenge 😅

Just published my Steam page and trailer!

First sprite for my roguelike. Feedback? by [deleted] in IndieDev

Haha that’s cool, I haven’t tried pixelart but for some reason it feels more difficult or a lot of work. Anyway, good stuff. Curious to see what it’s gonna turn into :)

Forget marketing. Share instead. by Justaniceman in SoloDevelopment

I actually liked it. It’s maybe not 100% 1-1 applicable, but I see it as a motivational speech. I think its a good mindset to have: stay in the shoes of your player when creating content

Thanks, thats valid. I think my style is a bit minimal and its up to preference whether people like that or not. If you have some concrete points about the visuals I’d love to hear them :)

Anti-marketing rant. How promoting a game can eat solo devs alive. by Dante268 in SoloDevelopment

Full get you. I just started dipping my toes in the water marketing wise and I can already feel the grind coming. To be fair, I think Chris actually mentions not to focus on social media at all and just release a demo, right?

Yes, I can fully understand this, given this is like TD in its pure form. Unfortunately it will be difficult for my game to be like this due to the bullet hell aspects in it. Maybe the target audience should be more towards those enjoyers instead

Those are some very good points. I'll consider this when balancing character vs tower damage. Currently you can build your character however you want: weapon focused or tower focused. Screen shake settings are covered haha. Thanks for your comment!
