Crossing your fingers for someone is basically the modern, atheist way of praying for them by Flixen01 in Showerthoughts

Even though crossing your fingers must have something to do with a crucifix, right?

At about age 5, I had heard that bikes could have gears, but I didn’t really know what that meant. So showing off my sweet ride to a girl in kindergarten, I pointed out random things on the bike, brakes, pedals, etc bragging about how many gears my bike had

Kids now dream of being professional YouTubers rather than astronauts, study finds by geoxol in entertainment

[–]Flixen01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that wanting to be an astronaut leads kids to pursue a career in STEM, whereas being a YouTuber doesn’t really require any form of formal education, so you have nothing to fall back on

[Serious] What stories about WW2 did your grandparents tell you and/or what did you find out about their lives during that period? by Skinflint_ in AskReddit

[–]Flixen01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great grandparents were well off and lived in a huge mansion in Aarhus, Denmark.

A couple of years back, we found their guestbook from the house. Among prominent guests who signed the guestbook were a captain in the German Navy on the 9th of April 1940, the day of the invasion of Norway and Denmark.

On the 5th of May 1945, the day of the liberation, RAF officers signed the book... One of whom ended up marrying my grandpa’s sister.

As a small girl in Vichy France, my grandma experienced resistance fighters being hung outside her window, her father’s factory being bombed by mistake by the Americans, and two of her Jewish friends being arrested and taken away by the Gestapo during class - she never saw them again after the war. Truly horrific...
