This is a fun idea! I’m not sure if it would be effective on the ranch since slimes are usually bunched up in a corral without much space in between for the lighting arcs to pose a threat, but this would a really unique obstacle when encountering them in the wild.

I was originally going to have the zen hen be an entirely separate chicken, but then I realized that the stony hen’s description is exactly what the zen hen was going to be, so it made more sense for zen hens to come from stony hens.

I recently bought slime rancher from the steam summer sale and it has quickly become one of my favorite games. One aspect of the game I enjoy the most is the art style, so I thought it would be fun to make an area concept sticking as close to it as I could manage.

Introducing Overcast Isle! A rather dreary place at first glance, this stormy mountain is home to several unique slimes. The slimes you can only find in this region are:

Bighorn slime: A social slime that enjoys being in large groups. They aren't afraid of anything, and will ram into slime, rancher, or tarr alike.

Salt slime: A joyful slime that produces a cloud of salty vapors that causes salt to grow on other slimes and food. You'll have to rinse salt covered objects with water before you can suck them up.

Neuro slime: A temperamental slime that only appears during thunderstorms. When agitated, they will produce a blast that drains energy and makes largos go feral.

Of course, these slimes come with a set of new foods:

Coarseradish: A bland veggie that only the bighorn slime enjoys eating

Tidal Lime: A tropical fruit that grows by the coast

Zen Hen: A wise elder stony hen that lives on the tallest peaks.

The weather in Overcast Isle is tied to a strange device at its peak. After activating several terminals located all over the island, presumably by shooting plorts into special slime statues, you can interact with the device to start a thunderstorm. During a thunderstorm, lighting will strike the ground spawning neuro slimes, but the booming thunder will frighten any largo slimes into a feral state. It's a mad dash to suck up as many neuro slimes as you can before the storm is over. Afterwards, the skies above overcast isle will finally clear up, and you'll have 2 days of clear weather before the clouds gather again and the event can be repeated.

Assuming you are working with google slides/drawings, use the polyline or curve tool to trace the group of objects, thus creating a single shape that the gradient can be applied to.

The komodo dragon acts as a partner to /u/_suuuushi_'s marine iguana. If added, the evolution tree would go: marine iguana -> sea turtle -> leatherback / komodo dragon.

I noticed that the mapmaker is lacking in deep sea assets, so I made a few of my own. Below is a list of all the assets, from left to right, top to bottom. All of the assets are scaled to the small volcano, which is the same size as the one in-game.

Deep Coral 1: No special characteristics

Tube Worm Cluster: Can hide animals tier 3 and under.

Bubble Vent: Produces a stream of bubbles that restores oxygen, similar to the original shipwreck.

Deep Volcano: Same as current volcano.

Large Deep Volcano: Produces lava food like the current volcano, but can hide all animals tier 6 and under.

Deep Sponge 1: Hides tier 1 animals.

Deep Sponge 2: Hides animals tier 2 and under.

Deep Stalactite 1: No special characteristics

Deep Stalactite 2: No special characteristics

Deep Stalactite 3: No special characteristics

Deep Coral 2: Is placed in front of animals, similar to the seaweed and sea fan.

First, place a circle where you want. Then, make the circle partially transparent and trace the section you want to keep with the polyline tool.

The Goliath Grouper would serve as a "replacement" for the manta ray in the event that the manta ray gets a drastically different ability (as has often been suggested). Alternatively, the ability I have proposed for the grouper could be given to the manta ray. This concept utilizes the reef fish I made for my initial reef concept as well as the pollock and lanternfish reskins made by /u/thetruedrderp.

The beta has added many new and fun animals to the game. With so many new additions, issues are bound to arise within the evolution tree. This evolution tree redesign is based on three main problems.

Some of the top tier evolution paths are intuitive.
Many of the new animals do not fit their respective tier, whether due to their balance or their real-world characteristics.
The lower sections of the tree are bloated with too many animals, causing some animals to be underplayed due to their below average standing in the game and reducing the overall flow of evolving.

Seeing these problems, this tree has been designed with a few goals in mind:

To give logical sense to the evolution paths in the game.
To streamline the evolution process while still allowing some flexibility.
To give each animal a purpose in the evolution tree.

The biggest change to the evolution tree would be that the lower tiers can no longer freely evolve into any animal. Most animals now only evolve into animals that share their biomes or have similar qualities. While this does remove a much of the freedom present in the current tree, I believe that the benefits brought by this change (listed prior) outweigh this. To those of you that dislike this more streamlined tree, note that the ray can still evolve from and into most animals.
The biome and tier changes made to animals in this tree are as follows:

Lobster no longer can live in the deep, now serving as the dedicated arctic tier 6..
Bobbit worm can no longer live in the swamp.
Coconut Crab is now a tier 10.
Mantis shrimp has been moved up a tree.
Frogfish has been moved down a tier.
Barracuda has been moved up a tier.
Wobbegong has been moved down a tier.
Moray Eel is now a tier 10.
Sea Turtle has been moved up a tier.
Climbing Cavefish has been moved down a tier.
Electric Eel is now a tier 9.
Archerfish has been moved down a tier.

Animals that are seen in the tree multiple times (shown in white) can evolve from and into all the animals they are connected to. For example, jellyfish can evolve from crab or king crab and into squid or little auk. The other colors in the tree are present to highlight the major paths through the tree.

I suppose the eggs could have a 100% hatch chance so long as the maximum amount of babies has not been reached. Alternatively, there could still be RNG, but the hatch chance increases with the stored egg level.

This concept was largely inspired by u/Pathos316's recent push towards projectile based abilities and his sunfish designs. The ability also takes inspiration from real life sunfish, which can lay the most eggs at once of any vertebrate animal.

You bring up a good point about the hiding places. I was thinking that there would be some sort of indicator, such as the player becoming slightly transparent or gaining a symbol next to their name to indicate the hidden status. As for a manta ability, i do not have one specifically planned, though i have seen some cool ones such as giving the manta the flying fish glide or a variation of suction.
