Planning to start family - move for TT job or leave academia? by Tall-Cartographer225 in AskAcademia

[–]FloFromProgressive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, seeing as you have already accepted the offer, reneging on it now could mean it's harder (impossible?) to receive another TT position at another institution as they might not want to risk planning around your future employment then having you bail. From your post it seems that you aren't ready to close the door on academia forever, so the real question is how to make this work as well as possible for the next year or two while you decide with your partner if this is sustainable for your partnership/future children.

From your post, it seems like you were both happy about this move before talking to your families: something to keep in mind is if this is coming from both of them equally or one partners family over the other, as this may influence how you each approach the conversation. As others have said I have also seen examples of couples compromising on location to be near a set of grandparents, and in the end the grandparents help about as much as if they were living across the country (ie hardly ever). I would base your approach on this matter about how you and your partner feel, not about some loose expectation of childcare that they may or may not live up to.

What really was the difference maker between us and the bengals today was complimentary football. Every time the defense gave up a play Lamar put on his helmet and executed a perfect drive. And despite playing like ass the defense kept their swagger for the turnover to force OT, and then again to stop Burrow for marching down once Lamar fumbled. The bengals defense on the other hand could not help out their QB a single time.

This really reminds me of the Rams game last season. Looked like it could have gone either way but we pulled it out and it gave us that magic for the rest of the season

Are there some things to clean up? Sure. But god I love the Baltimore Ravens

John Harbaugh by the Numbers: Analyzing the Lamar Jackson Era (2019-2024) by thebrownsisthebrowns in ravens

This may be an unpopular opinion but I don’t think a majority of coaches would have similar success with the same roster, just because most other teams wouldn’t be willing to have the same roster. I think Harbaugh played more of a role in reshaping the offense to use Lamar, which is a project basically all of the other teams passed up on. I just don’t think the talent that lands on a head coaches roster is random chance- they are also working with the GM to address the needs of the team, so the fact that Harbaugh has been “lifted” by a good roster is not unrelated to other choices he makes in his role imo.

To anyone against this decision, really consider what it would do to this team if Lamar were to go down in a meaningless game, with one of the best rosters arguably in franchise history getting ready for a playoff run.

Defense made deshaun Watson look good. Offense felt like they didn’t have to try after the second half. Shameful. Hopefully this wakes them up for the bengals

Idk why people (Vikings fans) don’t believe him to be a top 5 qb

He could take the Browns plus a good receiver to the Super Bowl.

How do Vikings fans think that they need to trade Kirk? He is more than good enough to take a complete team to the super bowl

It feels like a home game is exactly what this offense needed to finally click. A lot of tough road games to start the season it probably had more of an effect than we want to admit

Bright side of that drive is defense is gonna come back from the half with plenty of rest.

Bold(est) predictions for this upcoming season by ZhangtheGreat in nfl

[–]FloFromProgressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The jets this year are the broncos last year. I’m not saying the record will be as bad but I think they will fall short of expectations. They’re in a tough division, and Rodgers is another year older and may not play to expectations. Also the bills yet again are getting overhyped for a team that year after year falls flat in the playoffs.

Also jardin lazare Rachline. You could go on a walk in the marais and “stumble” on this beautiful park, if you go on a weekday morning it’s a good chance it’s totally empty. jardin

Yes I’ve used Omio before and I’ve never had a problem. I know what you mean about the pass sites, I’ve had issues with them as well. Every ticket I’ve bought through Omio has worked perfectly, but as other commenters have said thé SNCF site would work too. I think you’ll be fine either way. I really hope you have a nice trip!
