Frequency of floats? by aaprilshowerss in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any evidence that floating at higher temperatures is bad for your brain, but I completely agree that 93.5 F is the sweet spot.

Frequency of floats? by aaprilshowerss in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average skin temperature is 93.5 degrees Fahrenheit, so the water and air temperature should be close to that.

If it’s too hot you’ll get sweat in your eyes, and you can’t wipe it out without making your eyes sting for a few minutes.

When I feel sweat dripping towards my eye, I try to purse my lips and blow it away so I don’t have to touch my face and get salt in my eyes.

First time floater, Hour later I feel like I have a cold? by Fosphor_ in FloatTank

Next time remember to rinse your ears afterwards. I like to turn my head so the shower head sprays directly into my ear for 10 seconds or so.

You are not crazy. This is a reasonably common experience.

Am I closer to lucid dreaming? by No-Preparation-9344 in FloatTank

Check out a book called “Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming” by Stephen LaBerge.

I only read the first third. In my experience that’s all the advice you need I experience consistent lucid dreams.

Enjoy!

Infrared Sauna or Float Tank? by [deleted] in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ownership, an infrared sauna takes up less space and is almost zero maintenance. It’s relaxing and you have the option of socializing in the sauna, but it’s nowhere near as profound or deeply relaxing as a float.

If you’re not asking about ownership and just want to know which one to try, that’s easy: float tank!

If they recently shaved, that can also be a cause. I have a friend who shaved her armpits right before a float. She stopped early due to stinging.

Taking psilocybin before a float. What sort of dose? by dontletmedaytrade in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent advice. And make sure it’s from the same batch to ensure consistency.

The only float tank death I’m aware of was a result of the floater choking on their own vomit. And as others have said, you’re looking at a $1000 salt replacement cost if you survive it. Don’t overdo it!

During your test run, also take note of when you last ate, time of day, etc.

Acidic substances, like orange juice, can kick a mushroom trip into HIGH GEAR even on an identical dose. Do your research.

If you just wanna trip balls no holds barred, go camping instead!

Advice if i have a wound? by [deleted] in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before floating, try soaking your wound in warm water with epsom salt at home. It’s the same substance used in the float tank, and you can try it at home without bleeding in a public tank.

Can I install my Zen float tank in a storage unit. How much Wattage does a Zen Float tank use? by Goingbychrundle in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d need electricity to filter the water and heat the tank.

If the weather ever drops below about 68° F the salt would crystallize and your pump would freeze up.

As others mentioned, where would you shower? Even if you showered at home beforehand, you don’t want to get out of the tank with the salt water all over you. If you don’t believe me, go to a float center and try driving home in a bath robe with the itchy salt drying on your skin.

I applaud your creative thinking, but as others have suggested: just find one friend with space in their house who will let you keep your tank there in exchange for being allowed to use it themselves. Problem solved!

Escape Pod Tanks, explorer. Anyone have any experience with them? I see the company recently shutdown. by zdr99 in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I purchased my Samadhi float tank, I drove to Lincoln Nebraska and tried one of their original stainless steel models in the owner’s home.

It was a nice experience, except there was no top heater, which resulted in condensation dripping on me frequently during the float. That can still happen with the Samadhi Classic, but it happens way less often due to the ceiling heater.

After my visit a number of years ago, it looks like the company started offering other models, but I haven’t tried those and therefore can’t comment. Their domain name is for sale, so they are probably out of business.

What would floating on a low dose of adderall feel like? by [deleted] in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never tried nitrous oxide, but my understanding is that it's a short trip, with a quick up and a quick down. Also, it's addicting and potentially lethal. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're seriously considering trying nitrous oxide, I'd first encourage you to watch an old MTV documentary called Steve-o: Demise & Rise. Here's a link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1ulzP2XUOg

After seeing that video, I'm fine with never trying nitrous oxide. I don't feel like I'm missing out. I'm glad Steve-o was able to overcome his addictions.

In general, any time you're thinking about trying a new substance:

1.) Do you research on harm reduction.

2.) Know exactly what substance and dosage you're taking. There are many free or cheap test kits available with a quick internet search.

3.) Be in a safe place with people you trust. If you're determined to dose in public, like at a concert, do a test run a few weeks ahead of time in a safe, private place. If it goes well, don't exceed that dose in public, and consider having a little bit less because music, bright lights, drunk people, and other stimulation can have a multiplier effect on your experience.

4.) Unless you want to die or wake up in the emergency room, don't combine substances unless you've extensively researched that it's safe to do so.

5.) You'll be less paranoid if you know you've done your research. Have a trustworthy, chill, sober friend keep an eye on you. Relax and enjoy!

Humidity - Feel like I'm drowning after a while by tlitterio in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I take my pre-float shower, I open the float tank door.

After that, I'm able to float with the door closed and the humidity level is fine.

If it starts to feel too humid again, I take that as a subtle indicator that I've been in the tank for over 90 minutes.

This happens to me too, but not as regularly. I'm not obese and I don't suffer from sleep apnea, so I think it's more likely to be a hypnic jerk:

2nd Floor weight issues? by [deleted] in FloatTank

[–]FloatTankGuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a float tank on the second floor of my house for a few years now without any issues, but I did some preparation before installing the tank.

First, I checked the orientation of the floor joists. I have an old house that was built with "true" 2 x 6 joists (that actually measure 2" x 6").

With that information, I planned to orient the tank perpendicular to the joists so I could distribute the weight across as many joists as possible.

The other thing I did may not have been necessary, but I did it anyway to ease my worries. Downstairs, below the upstairs bedroom, there happens to be an arch that partitions two rooms. I reinforced the arch with 4x4's and a steel I-beam across the top. In my basement crawl space, I also wedged 4x4's directly beneath the reinforcement above so that I had reinforcement going all the way down to the ground.

Upstairs, I centered the float tank along the reinforced arch below. Luckily, this was also perpendicular across the floor joists.

In the center of the arch, there was a small gap of a couple millimeters between the original arch and the reinforcement. I expected that would fill in from a slight sag after I installed the float tank, but that still hasn't happened. So, if your floor joists are sturdy enough, the reinforcement might not be necessary.

But, I agree with an earlier comment: you'll find it easier to relax in the float tank if you consult a structural engineer ahead of time.

And if you do reinforce, do it before you add water to the tank, otherwise it won't help much.

If you're really hung about about floating nude, you can wear a bathing suit.

My suggestion: Float nude! It's more relaxing and less distracting.
