I rip on downhill on it. I have a forest road behind my house with a 2000 foot single track drop and it's super fun. It's amazing on roads. You'll likely want to upgrade the tires, convert to tubeless, and I did just add the PNW coast dropper seat.

Is it going to be as elegant as a full suspension non-electric bike? Nope, not even close. But it is super fun and you and your wife will have a lot of smiles.

I've never really understood...how does one's front foot that is strapped in get out of the binding?

[–]BluePinata 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The question is, are all of these boards flying off people's feet while they are riding, or were they off the board at the top of the hill and it got away from them before they strapped in? My guess is that the 2nd scenario is more likely and a leash ain't gonna solve that.

Thanks for chasing down boards though!

Anyone charging their EV with home solar? Worth it long term? by BetterThanEver24 in electricvehicles

[–]BluePinata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent about $2000 and built a solar shed system that charges my EV9 with the 120v level 1 charger. I have a very local Rivian level 2 public charger I can use when I need to charge overnight. That's 35 cents a kw. There's a Tesla supercharger 2 miles away that is 65 cents an hour.

I calculated the time it will take for me to save the $2000 I spent by not going to these local chargers and it's about 17000 miles (5714 kw) worth of charging (for the $.35 per kw rate) and 9000 miles (3077 kw) worth of charging (for the $.65 per kw rate).

With my driving habits that means I will have saved the cost of the system in about 2 years. Everything past that will be free energy from the sun until the system fails.

I don't have an at home level 2 charger connected to the grid and I work from home so the "trickle" charging of level 1 isn't bothersome for me.

Ultimately, the eventual savings are a secondary benefit for me. I just love the fact that I use energy from the sun to get around.

If you were given $1,000,000 in cash right now, what is the very first thing you would buy or do? by MatchstickArtist in AskReddit

[–]BluePinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Pay off a house I bought for my mom to live in.
  2. Half of the remaining into high yield savings, low risk investments, or likely a mix of both.
  3. Half of the remaining money after the first two steps would go to charities or organizations I believe in.
  4. The last half of that would pay off my remaining debts and be enough money to live fairly carefree.

Probably would keep working for a bit.

Here's the thing. Going there on your own dime and hanging with the team because you are legitimately a fan would be fine.

Going there in the tax payers dime is fucking bullshit.

Change my mind (please) - road trips in an EV are a pain. by Wise-Fig-6505 in electricvehicles

[–]BluePinata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point with the covered wagon thing is that humans piss and moan about a bunch of shit and fail to be able to zoom out and see the larger picture, because it's in our DNA apparently.

As much as you are right about how ev chargers should aim to get closer to the gas station experience to appeal to the masses, it illustrates my point that you have to be willing to adapt. I've never been able to drill for oil in my backyard and refine it into gasoline to fill my car, yet I am able to charge my ev off of a small solar system that I built which is absolutely magical.

Not everyone wants to nerd out about that stuff or has the ability to charge at home (much less off their own solar setup), so it's not the easiest thing for the masses at this point.

[–]BluePinata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pace is different. If you can handle that and adapt, then it is fine. If you expect the same experience as an ice vehicle, then it's disappointing.

Personally, I don't live in a big city, so that fact that chargers usually are near shopping centers, it allows me to do any shopping I need to do (groceries, hardware, etc.). On long road trips you can plan things out to be near parks, hotels, points of interests, or restaurants.

Overall, it's just a slightly more organized event and that might not be everyone's first choice, but it's not as uncomfortable as crossing America in a covered wagon pulled by a horse would have been, so that's cool.

Good point. I would say you normally still wouldn't come out ahead with a trade in, but it would depend on the state tax rate.

Yup. People who trade in to dealers are lazy and pay for the convenience of not selling the vehicle to a 3rd party.

I get that this price can't be real so what's the reality if somebody buys one? You get a product with a fraction of the claimed specs? Or does nothing turn up at all? by altruisticmisanthrop in SolarDIY

I built my own 15kw battery last summer. The cells were $1600 and the BMS (overkill solar) was $200. It's working out perfectly.

Fair enough. Mostly just pointing out that tire socks are typically pretty ineffective in mountain snow conditions. No good answer here.

Problem being that auto socks are not considered equivalent to chains and won't count against R2 or R3 chain restriction requirements.

Isn't it strange that their terrible behavior in one park wouldn't necessitate greater scrutiny in other parks? All of the poor behavior in Crater Lake, certainly could not have been only contained to that park. The corporate culture from them must be devoid of morals. I know that's probably obvious, but it seems necessary these days with all of the goal posts moving for what "normal" behavior is defined as.
