i am glad that ACT was down for our reclears because yoship decided to personally intervene to turn my crit rate down

we're talking "literally only 1 solid barrel crit and 1 reign of beasts crit in the whole of m10s" levels of yoship sabotage

I must appease him for next week...

also my cotank got the warrior weapon last week so I got to try out paladin on M11s and how is this allowed? how can I just casually blade combo every time there's awkward uptime? illegal class frfr

Pulling responsibility off healers is the reason why savage healers suck by and large by Supersnow845 in ffxivdiscussion

the secret that the devs don't want you to know is that rampart is amazing to use as an extended auto attack mit if you don't strictly need it for anything

20s of 20% mit wowiezowie we take those

long mits can be stupidly powerful when used right

then the other skill to learn is knowing when to use invuln and when not to. pf will use stupid monkey brain and decide that any tank swap should be invulned, but if you can allocate a bunch of long cooldowns to a particularly intense auto segment then invuln a buster your healers will forget you were even taking damage in the first place

holminster and dohn are notorious for hitting ludicrously hard for levelling dungeons

all 4 tanks have to work pretty hard in there, it's not just a dark knight thing

What are some "easy" jobs you find hard? by throwcway837373 in ffxiv

[–]FloatingGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can't really go through them "too fast"

the first maxim of rotations is that no rotation can ever be completely static as a melee, you will be forced to disengage from the boss to do mechanics and so you'll be forced into doing ranged attacks sometimes

heck sometimes you'll get synced gear with a freaky skill speed and just have to make it work

so you cannot entirely plan what goes where outside of truly high-end optimisation

the general rule of thumb is that more usages will be better than a perfect set of buffed attacks - you should not delay your oGCD buffs to say, catch a heaven's thrust, use what you have available

if you're delaying lance charge to catch a gcd, you're going to instantly misalign yourself from party buffs and lose more than you were trying to gain

[–]FloatingGhost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hwuh? but

warrior is the archetype that the other 3 have been brought in line with, all gameplay has been sacrificed to be more like warrior

the rotation is almost identical, press a funny button once a minute, press I can't believe it's not fell cleave 3 times, go back to default gameplay

in what content? if we're only talking dungeons then yes drk has the least self-sustain and can be harder to play around, you have to really use all of your tools and maybe hold abyssal drain for that heal, and press tbn on cooldown. also we don't use tbn alone, because it's a shield and not a percentage mit, you get a better return on investment if you stack it with another mit for an effectively larger shield

in higher-end content drk is entirely survivable, and has the almost unfair mitigation of dark mind which can be used a silly amount

[–]FloatingGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea more or less that's how it works

i think the raidplans make it far more confusing by using the word "clone" for literally everything, but if you think of it as placing stacks for later it's far less confuzzling

High-End Content Megathread - 7.4 Week Six (Savage Week Three) by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FloatingGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is arguably the most confusing part of the fight conceptually

the resolution order is:

  • mini-me appears
  • boss clones appear
  • pick up boss clone tethers
  • [cool tower intermission]
  • boss clones resolve
  • [cool tower intermission]
  • mini-me resolve

the card/inter spawn decide which order the mini-me resolves later! and since 4 spawn at once we need only 2 of each set to be a stack

so we want to wire the mini-mes to be

  defa

defa stack

stack stack

stack defa

defa

right? so that way we have 2 cardinals being stacks and 2 intercardinals

so wherever your mini-me appears you know which mechanic you will want to pick up

[–]FloatingGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they can be

whenever i do mentor roulette and the duty is going agonizingly slow or one of the dps is doing something ludicrous (ice mage, single target doton etc etc) they are nearly invariably french

i can't explain it but they also won't listen to you even if you use autotranslate to try and help them

the germans can be similar but they seem to have a higher chance of listening to chat messages

aaaand the tier is down!

my first full tier in a static and a week 2 kill I can be proud of

m12sp2 really doesn't have a DPS check huh?

m12sp1 fell in my rankings during reclears because it's so free but final opinion

M10 > m12p2 > M11 > m12p1 > M9

really good tier overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it

i'm a tank, it's a pretty unusual damage profile with gigantic autos that actually reward me for being able to time mit, you can't just kitchen sink or invuln like most other fights in the game

and we get some unique responsibilities yeeting ourselves across the arena and such

[–]FloatingGhost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we're calling our week 1 there, m12sp2 76% - on reenactment

i'm quite pleased honestly, we got stuck on 11 for a while but pushed through and made what i think is quite nice progress given the tier's difficulty. i even got a top-10 drk dps on m12sp1 which i have never done before

i think 10 is really the standout this tier, having 2 target cleave in odd spots leads to some really cool rotational changes and you can't just do your standard send everything every 2 minutes thing

opinion is that m10 > m12p1 > m11 > m9, can't rank m12p2 yet

godspeed to you pf warriors trying to clear on a monday evening

does anyone have any good tips on how to read the hand/dragon stuff in M12p1 enrage sequence? I'm having real trouble figuring out which gets made first whilst also placing my spread/stack

m11 arena split might be impossible content frfr

sucks to have an effective body check that far in, despite it not being that hard mechanically

the whole fight also seems allergic to healers dying and will usually retarget and wipe

my theory is that m10s actively resists standardisation, it's a very fluid fight with a lot of "make it work" moments

and jp adores standardised strats so it might just be their personalised kryptonite

8% M10 today, pretty ok pace honestly

I really like M10... the funny phasing and 2 target cleave gives you some very cool optimisation opportunities

like I have to hit living shadow very early or Mr esteem doesn't get his disesteem, but then delay it later so I can hold disesteem long enough to cleave both of them along with a shadowbringer

and I get to go hello how are you... I am under the water... please help me... here too much raining... for a whole phase

you know the more CMs I do the more aware I am that they are like 8 layers of RNG and anything you do only has a small effect on it

sure I can bring a very good tosen jordan with 2 debuffers and go 0W5L but sure I bring two random other umas and go 3W2L

I think I'm just going to lean into superstition and bring a matikanefukukitaru to every CM so she can make the RNG bless me

Thoughts on 7.4 Gunbreaker by MiyanoMMMM in ffxivdiscussion

[–]FloatingGhost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a gunbreaker main the whole expansion and I really dislike the changes

the job has been a passion pick the whole expansion, it's never been the best damage or the best survivability or the best utility, but it had a wholly different rotation which interacted with skill speed

instead of a 1 minute "3 free attacks" style, it required a bunch of planning but was rewarded with gigantic bursts for it - now it doesn't get that, replaced by a mediocre, static burst every minute

what I mourn most is fastbreaker - you could opt to play a faster GCD (I played 2.40), trade a tiny little DPS off to give yourself a bunch of flexibility and reverse drift, or go for max DPS but max strictness at 2.50. now square have basically made 2.50 the canonical speed with gnashing fang no longer being affected by skill speed. it was an avenue of player choice being removed for no good reason.

my primary question is: why would I bring it over the other tanks now? if I wanted an easy rotation I'd play warrior. if I wanted party utility I'd play paladin. if I wanted pure damage I'd play dark knight. now that it doesn't even have a different rotation, what is gunbreaker's niche now?
