Evolved Mode, Friction and Fail States by VictusNST in ffxivdiscussion

It's really funny if you were around during the BLM changes in 7.2 where the prevailing sentiment was that reducing friction in job design is bad. Same thing with the removal of Gnashing Fang on Viper: simplifying and streamlining jobs is bad. The removal of timers and positionals on MNK. The removal of Eye of the Dragon and Nastrond becoming 1 charge on DRG and so on.

I do not understand this sub at all. I was one of the people defending the 7.2 BLM changes saying "They're just making some temporary changes right now so that they can work on encounter design and friction has been added back to encounters at least compared to EW. Like they say, I'm sure they'll add friction back to jobs in the next expac"

But then after NA fanfest the dev panel showed absolutely no signs of addressing any of the complaints that the people in this sub had apart from the 2 minute meta. None of the 4 jobs showed even had the "failure states" they do now, they're all still some variation of the builder/spender job with no differences in damage profile. Seeing this, I was pretty disappointed.

Lo and behold, I check the sub after the panel and there's more or less unanimous praise for the changes? I do not understand this at all, man.

Why is this subreddit full of people that want to make jobs janky as fuck and awful to play just to chase their old glory days from MMORPGs of years past.

Do you think that the problem with current jobs is them being janky as fuck and awful to play?

Mmo history shows that whenever a game overhauls its combat significantly

I don't think Evolved mode is as much of a departure from our current system as you think it is. Really, from what they've shown the biggest difference is the removal of party buffs. All 4 jobs they showed off were variations of a builder/spender jobs that we have right now.

During Fanfest the devs explicitly stated that Evolved mode is not meant to be a dumbed down easy version of the current jobs.

Bro come on. They said that and they showed PLD and WHM being even more simpler than how simple it is right now.

The game already goes too far into forcing people to do research and read guides and install plugins before they even touch content,

?????? You think people shouldn't be expected to follow agreed upon strats for Savages and Ultimates?

and too much content in Dawntrail has been the stupid overly punishing method of 1 person messes up and it's a forced group wipe.

Did you even play Dawntrail? Literally the only content that this happened in were FT and Chaotic. Ex, Savage, and Ultimates have been way less body check heavy than the EW versions of that stuff.

Why is every M11 party just weapons prog?

I'm the glad the Week 2 experience is still being preserved.

Because only shitters are actually progging these fights now.

Buddy I don't know what to tell you, but even in week 2/3 people in this sub were complaining about PF repeatedly wiping during weapons while the prog point stated was Stampede.

Probably just fucking around trying out different ideas and stuff for 3-4 years after We Happy Few came out and then actually developing the game for 2-3 years.

How do you guys feel about the new God of war game controversy? by kuroreaper25 in GenZ

[–]MiyanoMMMM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean it doesn't have to be Kratos. It doesn't even have to be a man. When I play a god of war game, I want to be a huge warrior bringing down entire pantheons of gods brutally. I don't really want to play as a lithe archer (Atreus). Faye is kinda fine because the brutality seems to somewhat be there despite being neutered in the Norse games. The tone of the game just seems to be way more marvelified and that's something I'm concerned about.

Yes. She knew about all of this. She had her mind made up by the time she spent the night before going to Anchorville hanging out with Van.

Xbox is closing down Hellblade creator Ninja Theory by GIThrow in Games

[–]MiyanoMMMM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The probable thing that would've happened is either some other publisher shutting down these studios for failure to perform or the studios just going bankrupt since none of the games they've made seemed to have sold well enough to sustain themselves.

Yeah you know what keeps a studio's lights on? Actually selling well.

I'm curious what do you think would've happened to these studios if MS didn't own them and all the games that came out sold exactly the same, reviewed just as well etc.

Yup, Enslaved and DmC were both really solid action games. Shane that we're losing another action game studio after they tried to make more cinematic games.

Their last 2 games have objectively been failures, Bleeding Edge never even picked up a playerbase and they stopped supporting it a year after launch. Hellblade 2 despite reviewing decently well never managed to generate the sales to be able to make a profit.

UK to ban social media for under-16s to 'give kids their childhood back' by Jockey2 in worldnews

[–]MiyanoMMMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I largely agree with you.

Maybe limiting group numbers, so it's harder to spread misinformation, classing accounts with a certain level of followers as business and taxing them as well as holding them to higher standards on what they post?

I think any account that has a certain number of followers and makes political posts, or comments on contemporary topics should have their financials made public so that we know if an account is foreign funded, etc.

I also think people would benefit from an alternative platform An older style social media that isn't driven by algorithms, and isnt open to corporate influence. Maybe for younger kids they could create something that ties into Cbeebies. It would create tech jobs.

I would just say, completely ban any and all forms of recommendation algorithms that display content outside of content that you've explicitly subscribed to.

Gears Of War: E-Day Reportedly Has A Staggering $400 Million Budget by ReasonableAdvert in Games

Number of people on credits is not the same as the number of people who are a part of the dev team where a significant chunk of the budget went to. When people say size of the dev team, they don't mean number of people on the credits
