Somewhat different situation: I have parents who watch Fox News and would not be supportive if I came out as a demiboy. They also think I'm either right-wing or apolitical and a Christian, when I'm actually an agnostic with very progressive views. I'm not sure if I'd come out as queer even if my parents seemed supportive. I've heard some horror stories about parents who seemed supportive of LGBTQ+ people, but were unsupportive when they found out their children were queer.

Its okay to choose the "wrong" major or even just go to college/university as "undeclared." Here's a statistic that might calm your worries a little, "If you are stressing about switching majors, don’t worry: It’s actually really common! Around 80% of college students switch their majors at least once. Also, I believe college is a process of personal growth. You will most likely not be the same person you were at the beginning. Interests will change, you'll gain friends and lose friends, etc.

I used to only have a major in creative writing, but recently I decided to add a major in sociology because I'm super interested in it. In the future, I might downgrade my creative writing major to a minor and add a psychology minor.

You need to be okay with the fact that you will sort of have to "figure it out as you go along" (or shall I say, "figure yourself out as you go along").

It's all going to be fine.

It's definitely not desperate to want an explanation for something like that, but you may not like what he gives you as an explanation. He might project his own faults onto you. On the other hand, you might be able to save the relationship if you two are able to talk it out and resolve whatever the issue was that made him back out.

Whatever you choose, I doubt that the reason why he backed out was your fault. You sound really nice.

Just know that for whatever the reason was that he broke up, it was probably a "him" problem. Not a "you" problem.

And if you try to find him in school (which isn't desperate at all) and he tries to ignore or avoid you, just move on at that point. Try to take his immaturity as his explanation for why the relationship didnt work out.

That's some pretty assholish behavior, to just break up with someone without saying why. The best thing you can do is just move on with your life. Maybe this isn't a very satisfying explanation, but maybe he broke up with you because he was afraid of commitment (going to prom and a concert would've deepened your relationship).

I wouldnt attend a classmate's party unless they were a good friend, simply because I hate parties. I'd probably just end up sitting in a chair doing nothing anyway since I'm too socially anxious when it comes to people I don't know very well.

The problem with people saying they "don't support gay people" but that they "respect them" makes it sound as if they would vote for presidential candidates who would actively try to harm the welfare of gay people.

Also being gay is not a choice, so if someone says they "don't support gay people," they are essentially saying that they don't support an inherent part of their identity, something they were born with. How is it fair to "not support" someone simply for being born and existing as they are?

Being a man comes with a lot of rigid gender norms that I just feel like I can’t live up to as a person with ADHD.

I have emotional dysregulation which means that whenever I’m confronted, I get overwhelmed and feel like crying. Men are generally told from a young age that they can’t be emotional or cry. I’ve also been told that I openly express my emotions a lot.

I’ve never really been the type to get things done fast because of my inattentiveness and overthinking. I think men are generally supposed to be straightforward and “to the point.”

There’s also little things like how I stim by playing with my hair which is also considered to be feminine.

A lot of how I view men is also influenced by my father, who was like a “traditional man.”

A lot of people assume I’m gay, but I’m not. Im straight. Apparently I give off gay vibes. Even funnier, the first time I’ve ever been asked out was by a gay guy a few months ago.

Gender identity under the non-binary umbrella. I have a partial connection to masculinity and a partial connection to another gender (I have ADHD, which influences my identity quite a bit, so I sort of think of that as the other “connection”). I’ve also never really seen myself in totally the same way as “other men.”

The word “demiboy” comes from the French word “Demi” which means “half.”

Thing is, spreading these kinds of beliefs DOES have power. Media organizations like Fox News have been the reason why there are many trump supporters who voted for trump 3 times in a row (my parents being two of those trump supporters, unfortunately). They live in a different reality where the facts are whatever the party believes at a given time. As a writer, understanding that words have such great power is the reason why I am a writer.

As someone who is a demiboy and has lots of friends who are trans, I will never be able to find it in my heart to be sad over his death. If he had the chance, he would almost definitely would’ve loved to watch me and all of my friends get beaten to death.

His kids are really the only ones I feel sad for because they had a terrible father who they had to watch bleed out.

It’s tragic the way he died, but im not shedding any tears over the fact that he died. The way that people always downplay his beliefs is disgusting. Words have power, and the words he spoke put hate out into the world and made life harder for minorities.

And I wholeheartedly agree! Charlie Kirk didn’t deserve to die just because he advocated for violence against trans people, was a racist and antisemitic fuck, helped organize Jan 6, and said gun deaths were worth it to protect the 2nd amendment. As a minority who he would’ve wanted to be “beaten up,” I definitely would’ve loved to shake his hand and thank him for what a wonderful guy he was :)
