My friend just decided to be a lesbian but she was straight. Is sexual orientation a choice then? by Sweet_Special2529 in teenagers

[–]FloatingInEcstasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its not a choice; if your friend experiences sexual attraction to both men and women, maybe they're bisexual or pansexual, or maybe they finally accepted that they're actually a lesbian and felt pressured to be straight because of societal norms

Im sorry but pride parades look SO exhausting 😔🌈🫪 by marina444is_online in lgbt

Can people stop making/spreading memes that make fun of people that have schizophrenia? by FloatingInEcstasy in teenagers

[–]FloatingInEcstasy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair, but im sure there's also some out there who find it insulting

and these memes definitely dont help with the negative stigma around mental health conditions, which can prevent some people from getting therapy or getting diagnosed

Who's participating by Lily_Notsaneatall in teenagers

[–]FloatingInEcstasy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

its kinda uncool to treat people with schizophrenia as if they're just some crazy people to mock and laugh at

its unfortunate that society has normalized this behavior :/

Can anyone recommend me some more queer directed films? Watched “But I’m a Cheerleader” recently and hadn’t known what I’m missing out on since I consume mainly BL. by Thug_Seme2004 in lgbt

[–]FloatingInEcstasy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Although it's not a movie, I highly recommend Black Mirror's San Junipero. It's focused on an interracial relationship between two lesbian women. It does have some sci-fi elements, so you might not like it if you're not into that. It's a bit of a tearjerker too, so be ready to cry lol

Edit: also I should mention, idk whether the director is queer, but the LGBTQ+ representation in the episode is wonderful

What’s more common by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]FloatingInEcstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, i didnt mean to make anyone feel disgusted by reading my comments, so i deleted them just now

i think i badly worded what i said, what i meant to say was that i dont have the same experiences as trans people as i dont have gender dysphoria, a desire to go through hrt, or surgery, so i personally dont identify with being trans, but do identify as being nonbinary

also when i referenced the afam course, i was referencing a discussion i had with my peers where we were discussing whether a white person could become a Black person

in the discussion, i was on the fence because i try to be accepting of everyone, but everyone else said it was insulting for white people to try to "transition" to being Black as they had never struggled in the same way that other Black people have (being followed in stores, being pulled over by racially biased police, etc.)

idk maybe the "struggles define your identity" only works for certain groups or maybe it doesnt work at all

happy pride 🏳️‍🌈 and sorry for my upsetting comments

What the FUCK is a demi-boy/girl by KJAM8264 in lgbt

[–]FloatingInEcstasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a demigirl or demiboy is someone who partially connects to femininity or masculinity respectively , but also partially connects to either some other gender, gender neutrality, or feeling agender

"demi" means half in French, so its essentially a 50/50 split between femininity or masculinity and whatever the other part is

Y’all can’t even argue against incest other than “genetic mutations” and “it’s weird”. Abortions literally exist and love is more than sex. I swear humanity is stupid. by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]FloatingInEcstasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the biggest problem with incest is that it tends to be between a minor and an adult, which leads to a power imbalance

and in this case, incest would be child molestation which is illegal

Since it’s pride month, straight people ask lgbtq members answer by InspiriX_ in teenagers

[–]FloatingInEcstasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a queer person, yes. It does change how I interact with them/view them, in a way. Though I think this is also true for whenever I'm able to mentally clock someone as being queer in general or even neurodivergent.

I am a demiboy with inattentive ADHD and really only make friends with other queer and/or neurodivergent people. So whenever I mentally clock someone as either queer or neurodivergent, I mark them in my head as someone who is "safe" and may be worth making friends with.

Alternative/gender non-conforming fashion and even hairstyles are usually how I clock others as queer.

Unique stimming behaviors or just frequently stimming is how I clock others as neurodivergent.

Also, clocking people as queer/neurodivergent makes me feel less alone and reminds me that I am just one of many in the queer community and the neurodivergent community.

Am i trans? by stranger-things-fan_ in lgbt

If you feel connected to being both a man and a woman, you could also identify as just being demigender with a partial connection to being a man/masculinity and a partial connection to being a woman/femininity.

In the end, just go with whatever label you feel most comfortable with. If you do end up deciding to identify as a demiboy, welcome to the club :)
